Finger pain can be common when first starting to pole! Make sure that when you warm up that you warm your fingers, hands and wrists up too! A lot of people don’t do it..but look how much we use our hands in pole! Don’t forget to stretch them out when you are done too. Your hands will get stronger the longer/more you pole but you can do stengthening exercises for them off of the pole…squeezing a ball or one of those hand exercisers…one of my favorites I call a finger spritz is where you ball your fists up and then act like you are flicking water off of your hands and spread/stretch your hand and fingers out as far as they go..you have to do it with some force though other wise it’s really not going to be beneficial!

When in doubt if the pain is extreme…see your doc! Never try to "work" through it…something could be wrong https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

hmmmm…you want to spin in an invert? do you mean that you want to do a spinning chopper?

There are some inverts (spinning scorpio) that rely on momentum to kind of "spin" you…but you will never be able to spin in an invert on static like u do on spin-mode…

maybe i’m just not understandin your question https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

Also, give away whatever you need. If I need money, I give what I have to my fave charity. If I need rest, I do a small chore that will give someone else a break. Be a https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_santa.gif and https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_santa.gif will show up.

This is soooo true! I was raised to live like this and I have found that when my husband and I are having problems…if we give away what we need, we always get ten fold in return! Karma baby!

As far as dancing goes…it seems like you are stuck bn a rock and a hard place…I would not "hide" it from your bf…but at the same time, I wouldn’t let him control what you deem is necessary to get by! We are all having to do things out of the ordinary to survive…and we may be doing it for some time…so make sure that you can emotionally handle the demands of dancing! I would love to dance and make money from it..but hubby isn’t completley on the band wagon..so for now…he is my only customer! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

My husband was laid off in March and just recently (mid september) did he finally land the perfect job! You (your bf) must have faith that as long as you do what you are supposed to (get out there and look), the right opportunity WILL come around, you just have to be willing to SEE it! Good luck!

October 12, 2009 at 7:03 pm in reply to: Question about handspring/cartwheel

ok sas! Here is my break down…but first…a cartwheel mount is different from a handspring mount! The biggest piece of advice is to find your correct hand positions and ALWAYS look where your feet are…i’ll tell you mine when i’m done..hehe

I will describe these with hands as they way I do them..which maybe opposite of you so just switch around the directions..

    Cartwheel mount:

Left hand is placed face height on the pole.
Hips are slightly right of the pole
right hand will grab low on the pole about 8-10 inches higher than the ground.
Left leg will swing back & up, head looks up to where feet are going and and torso turns towards the pole (all happen at the same time). The top arm (that was at head height) will not be completely straight…bending that arm gives you more control and power in the move and it forces your body to be farther away from the pole.

It is best to practice the "entrance" and then move onto doing an ext butterfly…then eventually to aysha, straight edge or jacknife. Everyone is different as to which is easier but I think the aysha is easier with learning your balance and center of gravity! I actually used "frog" legs when I was learning how to get into it…then moved onto aysha…

I have an x-pole and once I found where my "best" hand position was I kinda mentally marked it on my pole..my top hand goes about three inches higher than the little holes on the top tube and my bottom hand goes right above the seem of the bottom tube and 250 ml extenstion. Now of course I don’t need to visually mark it…but visualization helps with learning new motor skills!

    Handspring mount:

Left arm goes across face and hand is placed slightly above head height.
Hips are to the right side of the pole
Right hand reaches slightly lower than hip height.
right foot placed next to pole on ground as left leg swings forwards and up at the same time eyes look up to where you want your feet and hips rotate towards pole.

It’s great to practice this into a butterfly as well. top arm is bent as well!

I found that the handspring mount uses the most core out of the two…

Sorry if this doesen’t help…I’m sure there are plenty of tips floating around here…and I think Veena has vids in her lessons for these!

Is the window cleaner okay for a Chrome pole?

yeah.but I don’t because it leaves a film on my pole…kinda like when you do windows or a mirror and there are streaks…it’s film…but everyone has different preferences… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Hi Roxy-Pink. You are so right. I here that all the time. To many people THINK themselves old.

I’ve alway had a fear of being unable to do active things when I get older because of people who do just that…I thought it was just the way it was gonna be!! But you ladies really shot that idea from my mind!! THANKS!!!

What every you do..don’t use window cleaner! The ammonia in it will cause your pole to oxidize (tarnish and rub off blue on your hands). You should be fine if you want to mix your alcohol with water…it won’t tarnish it!

You might be a pole dancer if when you take your son to the playground at Chick-fila he tells the other kids "look what my mom taught me" and he inverts on one of the posts that support the slide….infront of everyone! lol

Lilbit….you are the reason why I have gotten OBSESSED with getting into the best possible shape ever! I am surrounded by people in their 50’s that do nothing but complain about being "old" and that they can’t lose weight or this that or the other because of their age! I love seeing stories like yours that truly inspire me to become my best and to maintain it through out mylife!! I’ve been thinking about showing your pics to my mom to kind of say "see…you can do this and your not old!"

I don’t want to be one of those that say "just wait till your fifty then you’ll understand". I get told that A LOT and I hate it!! lol

    Keep on rockin it!!

What kind of sppins are you workig on? If you are doing anything with a split grip (like boomerang or carousel) that might be your problem! If you don’t have the built up strength or flexibility in your forearm/elbow/wrist it can cause pain that could radiate through out your arm…I unfortunately know this from experience!!
