If you're just starting to hoop, remember that moving left to right or forward and back is key, from there you can practice reaching in and out of it and then you'll be doing lifts in no time 🙂 Happy Hooping, Happy Poling (:

Looks like I should have been keeping better tabs on her as far a live performances go. She did a full trapeze act to sober that was also phenomenal. And she STILL sang through the WHOLE song. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif Puts those who lip sync to shame, that’s for sure. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAe2_2bFjwk

I rented the hoopnotica DVDs and I love them because every move is well explained and demonstated (close ups and slow motion) and they have a troubleshooting section that is extremely helpful https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumright.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumright.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumright.gifThe safirehoop tutorials on youtube are awesome, too https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
Where were you able to rent the dvd’s from? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

For places to buy a hoop there’s : Hoopnotica.com, bodyhoops.com, hoopgirl.com
Hoopnotica has various styles of hoops in either standard (43 inches) or petite (39 inches)
They offer dvd’s and music cd’s and from what I can see, the customers are pleased with their service. I just ordered the travel hoop so I’ll leave an update when it arrives.
Bodyhoops has pretty much all the same things, but they offer a large size hoop that’s 45 inches
Hoopgirl.com has a wide selection of hoops but the dvd selection is huge. They have a book available at Barnes and Noble for $12 USD or so and it’s called Hooping: A Revolutionary Fitness Program. It comes with a 50minute DVD with moves and routines and I will definitely be picking it up for the priceI highly recommend checking out hooping.org. They follow all things hula hoop and provide links to youtube videos to user created tutorials so nothing to buy, plus they offer tips on how to make a hoop if that’s a better option.
Hope this helps https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif

An easy way to stretch your shoes is to take 2 sandwich bags and fill them with water and place the bags in your shoes and then put your shoes in the freezer. The ice will help to expand it naturally https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I just got an iron gym and the way that it works is that there’s an extra support that you can screw in so it doesnt sit directly on the frame if you don’t want it to. It’s secure and has held up to my weight (140 lbs) and my roomie’s (200) and he’s a bigger muscular guy so maybe they just didn’t use the extra brace? But it’s worth the cash. It’s a real workout and for having never done chin ups before, it’s hard if you aren’t used to holding your own weight that way. Hopefully this will help to fix my many grip issues https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif *crosses fingers* I’ll post results pics after a month so you can see whether or not it’s worth it for you https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I’ve seen that thing at the checkout at Wal-Mart a million times and kept saying "You know…I should really try it" but I think I might just wait for a review https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif before I buy it, just to see if it’s sturdy and worth the cash.

If they don’t think Tribal Fusion is belly dance, then I dare any of them to say it to Rachel Brice’s face after she performs and I hope she says their closed mindedness doesn’t leave them worthy enough to suck the sweat off her toes.

Well said mate. It’s hilarious how a gender that will so quickly label a woman as a whore, slut, or skank will so easily release their hard earned dollars for such a woman to dance or appear at his side at a party https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif . This idea of a woman realizing her worth has been a constant in the male ego and it seems whatever way they can decide to hold control of a woman, they will. Case in point, abortion. Granted some may not agree for religious or just ethical reasons the choice still rested on the shoulders of 200 upper-middle class, Caucasian, middle-to-upper aged men to decide what rights I, or any woman have, over her uterus and the contents therein. A woman still only makes 79 cents for every dollar that a man https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif makes and yet an exotic dancer’s salary can trump that of any male who works a blue collar or white collar job. I don’t work in the profession, but I embrace my "sexy" https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_queen.gif and if that means it’s good neutral sense against whatever poor labels and gender roles society wishes to throw at me, I say "Bring it on bitches!" https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Because your torso is facing the pole, it’s closer to the inverted thigh hold than the scorpio.
For the inverted thigh hold all you need to do is bring the leg that you were about to drop backward directly in front of you.
If you had just left your legs connected together on the pole with your ankles touching that move would be the inverted crucifix.
The scorpio would have your back against the pole with the leg closest to the pole holding you up. Veena has a free vid up for the Gemini and she always recommends that you learn it from the floor first. So watch the video and try the the Gemini (crossing with your left leg) and then learn the Scorpio (crossing with your right leg). Once you’ve gotten them both down, you can slide down the pole alternating the hold and that’s called Windshield Wipers.
It’s hard to keep up with the names of moves, but try http://wikipole.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for a and search the Pole Move List Directory. They haven’t finished the spin one yet, but the move list should help you figure out what it is you’ve accomplished https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif -

MemberJuly 13, 2009 at 12:52 pm in reply to: For Fashion Enthusiasts With a Knack for SewingI know exactly what style I want. I want an underbust corset with a small V shape to come between, but accentuate boobs, for it to sit just above the top of the hips because I’ll still need a good range of motion for pole dancing, and the bottom hem will be flat and rounded completely. I’ll be wearing a garter skirt with this. I want the fabric to be sort of a tight woven embroidered brocade pattern, much like what you would see on the typical lingerie corset from Fredericks of Hollywood. I was considering going for steel boning, just because the plastic does have the tendency to sort of bend and warp and lose its shape no matter how good a care I take of it. I also want it to be easy to remove. I was thinking of using an invisible zipper for closure on the side, but still including closure in the front with the Edwardian look. Does that sound like the type of corset you can wear a bra to match it with or do you just go with a shirt? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif
I’m not completely sure on what type of fabric I should use for the inner layers. I don’t want anything stretchy because of the fit I’m hoping for. I read about coutil and I’m not sure if that’s a fabric for the outside or the inside. It seemed to have all of the properties I’m looking for. Any tips for what fabric would provide the best support and structure? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_study.gifThanks for all of the help https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

MemberJuly 12, 2009 at 10:12 pm in reply to: For Fashion Enthusiasts With a Knack for SewingWith how a lot of series post clips and highlights on the websites for the channels their shows come on, I might be able to find a clip for it on there. I did find one website with beginner kits, like with the boning and stuff included. But they were all sold out https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif But I’ll keep looking. So far I have costume ideas for three songs : Circus – Britney Spears, Smooth Criminal – Micheal Jackson, and the Moulin Rouge song Lady Marmalade that Christina Aguilera, Mya, P!nk, and Lil’ Kim did. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif So I’ll be busy busy whenever I get my hands on all the right patterns https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

You definitely want to stick with shoes with straps. Mules are okay if you have the experience dancing in them, but yes, they will come flying off. I have a pair with buckles and I have not experienced any scratching on the pole because their position rests around the ankle and not at a place where my foot would connect with the pole to damage it. Once you find the style you like, I recommend looking for it on other discount sites. I’ll try to find a list to get back to you with stores so you can save a bit while shopping https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Absolutely beautiful. I started to tear up a bit while watching it. If any thanks is to be given, all of the glory surely goes to you and webmaster. You two have begun something so genuine and rare that I am lost for words to describe how thankful I, and everyone else, must be for it. Although you may have given up on a brick and mortar studio, in time I’m sure it will still come to fruition…and it’ll beat the pants off the rest of these pansy studios for sure. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif An online community of people who are positive, encouraging, sincere, and talented is a sheer pleasure to be a part of. Thank you for all of your hardwork. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
