I record my whole session as I still need to desensitise myself to it. I perform much better without the camera on but I need to be able to critique my work and, if I ever want to perform to people, get confident with the pressure. I do tend to do a stint in the end without the camera just to pick up my confidence.

For my I love pole and, due to my own current feelings about my body, it is more fun/fitness/dance based. But I would hate to think that fellow polers, if I ever got to a point where I did a sexy routine, were calling me trashy!
It just seems like yet another level of slut shaming that, of all the places in the world, I wouldn’t have imagined a pole dancing website would harbour.
If you don’t like what you see, don’t look. I totally agree with others, it is just odd for an SO to blame you or judge you for things that another person is doing on a website.

This should be fun as I don’t have a sub side – it differs move by move BUT this challenge will help me work on my transitions to gracefully change directions on the pole. Plus my OH just put down laminate flooring in my pole room so I should be able to do better floor work.
I may also do a late October challenge (if I can get my butt in gear).

Vaxing the carpet can help too (you can rent the carpet shampoo/Hoover thingies).
I would do that before leaving the property just to finish it off.

I love the non music challenge!
How about dancing to a song a loved one (mum, dad, grandparent etc) loves (inspired by Paunobs tribute dance).
Dancing to a classical piece?

Hello and welcome!
I’m not local unfortunately but a lot of people on the forum pole jam. If you have a web cam I am sure there will be lots of people to jam with.

Oooooh, will have to check the diary and train costs as I’m in Notts. but would be good to go

At nearly 28, if your school was advertising that I am nearly the age to attend a “mature” class with 40+ year olds, honestly – I wouldn’t go.
Please don’t take this the wrong way but If having split ability classes is not an option why is split age? Why not have a invert/expert class and a basic class? As soon as someone fits the class where they can do whatever you feel makes it harder to teach while teaching spins move them up?
Btw – I loves being in a class of young fit things, they motivate me and I’m sure there are fit 40 year olds that wold run rings around me in a “mature class” that (to a more sensitive person) would depress even more.

I am also in the “no strip club” club for relationships. I too agree that having boobies in the face (other then mine) is not relationship appropriate behaviour, even worse if you are wasting money on it!

Awesome! Will do some thinking and some planning

MemberSeptember 1, 2012 at 7:25 am in reply to: Where did you start and where are you now?I have been poling for a month and a half (feels so much longer). I came from being a out of shape, overweight ex dancer. I wasn’t able to lift my body weight and was petrified. I’ve had 6 private lessons and two group lessons and I have a pole at home (I got the bug so bad) my videos pretty much show my ability.
I have a lot to learn and build on strength, finesse and knowledge. I am feeling impatient but I try and take every sessions one at a time and take pleasure in simple improvements (longer in air, further rotation, better automatic placement) but I can’t wait for the day I am looking back and thinking “gosh remember when I couldn’t even climb the pole”.

Really, really generous of you. Kudos!

Automatically my mind thought “dance 10, looks 3” from “a chorus line”…… I may have to do one to that anyway.

I use a Boots (beauty store) cheap fragrance free face wipe and a cheap flannel for wipe down.
For my (super) sweaty hands I use dry hands which is great to stop sweat and doesn't leave residue on my pole.

I’m really pleased to read this Maria, I love reading inspirational tales from people and I hope that I will one day write one of my own.
Well done you!

Hi SpookyInk,
Don’t give up. I wasn’t able to do anything 6 weeks ago and have already come on leaps and bounds. Are you planning to go to classes near you of just pole at home? If you are just doing it at home (or even if you aren’t) I would really recommend Veena’s videos here. She has a whole section for beginners with fitness and strength training to get you ready for spins (which lots of people will tell you are not beginner moves).
Pole is a long, long road but the pay off is worth it. I find now the hardest thing now is staying off the pole on rest days!

I would agree with videoing ever practice. Even if you are just mucking around film yourself this is three fold –
1, if you do something amazing (or hurt yourself) you can see what you did.
2, just because you nailed it in your head doesn't mean you did. by reviewing your work you'll see when you are jumping into a move, not pointing toes and all the other things your mind edits out (making you a more polished performer)
3, by recording all the time you will get used to seeing yourself on film making it easier to watch, making you less self concious and therefore a better performer.
If you want to edit your films I use Window's live movie maker which has enough to do basic editing.
Happy filming!

I think basically putting it up not on a beam best case senario; it cracks your ceiling, worst case senario; it cracks your ceiling and comes down with you on it – cracking your skull.

Hey Lizzie,
I would suggest that (if it has it) use your stud finder to find cables (mine shows wires and pipes) then do a nail test.
Also, as it's a victorian house a good guide of where to start (if you can see them) is your beams will run the opposite way to your floorboards in that room and your main light fitting will be mounted to one. So if you set your nail a few inches to the side of your light fitting in the opposite direction to the floorboards you should hit beam.
All else fails get a proper builder in to find the joist (their stud finders a much better then B&Qs).
good luck

I braved it and popped my cherry with a challenge vid. It’s no way as good as the others but at least I won’t get hung up about posting videos as I’ve done it now!

Hey there *waves*,
Another uk girly here. I would really recommend the lessons here to build your strength. My first class (at my studio) I was aching for most of the week after and was black and blue. I have my pole at home now and go to class and I love it. I still look a little silly and it is tough but I love doing it!
Looking forward to hearing your progress!

I wish I had smaller boobs, I am a 34G (all natural) and it is really restrictive. Poling can be tough as any move that the arm goes across the body is blocked and when pressed against the pole my back wants to automatically arch.

Thanks guys, I don’t feel so bad now.
I’m just missing wearing dresses without tights or leggings – at least summer has been nothing to write home about here so I’m not baking! Lol

Yes! That is my climber and I am still very poor at climbing. 🙁
