  • I’ll be ordering my stage from the South African
Xpole site. They give the option of collecting your orders directly from the warehouse, or organising your own courier if you find that their shipping method is too expensive or somehow inconvenient to you. LyraPole, have you tried calling/emailing xpole to see what options you have?

    Welcome Jamie!
I totally know how you feel. I took an intro class with a friend once, and the memory of it buzzed around in my head for like 3 years until I finally got my own pole πŸ˜›

I see you’ve got the lessons. That’s excellent. I know the sheer amount of videos on here can be daunting at first. I suggest you start looking through the beginner section to start with, just to get acclimatised what you’ll be doing soon. Since you don’t have a pole, you could get started with some of the conditioning lessons to condition your body for pole. Veena has a video called “getting started conditioning”, which explains how to go about using the conditioning lessons properly. At the end there are full routines/workouts that you can follow along with.

When you get your pole, or get access to one somehow, you can do the “30 day take off” (in the lessons section). That’ll give you a nice intro to some basic moves, stretching and strength training. It’s a great way to start.

As far as the space you’ll need… I’d say that in the space between the pole and the wall, you should at least be able to extend both arms up to shoulder height. But people have been known to make it work with even less room than that.

  • Thanks for the input, guys! I think I’m making a good decision then, as the advantages seem to outweigh the downsides.

And LatinPoler, I was glad to see an answer from you since you make so many cool vids on your stage πŸ˜›

Veena, I just barely scrape 5’1, so it’ll be less of a squeeze as far as the platform goes. I got my tape measure out and so I could visualise the space available. I think I can work with it!

Hannimator, I have to tape my feet when doing pirrouettes on my carpet and I *still* get friction burns. Socks will be a welcome change, XD

Thank you so much for the advice everyone!

What I’ve decided to do is get the clear ones in the same style. I’ll use them to mess around and practice with so I can get used to dancing in heels. Then later on down the road, I’ll get my fancy pair for special occasions πŸ˜€

Thanks for the decoration tips, Veena. I might just try them to jazz up my clear platforms in the meantime πŸ™‚

It’s been way too long since I’ve been to the gym, but let me see what I can remember.

I’d usually have my towel(s), water bottle, music playing device like my phone or ipod… Hmmm a change of clothes. Oh, and lip balm and lotion. Maybe a protein shake but usually just yogurt to snack on on the long walk home.

Brilliant video. I even teared up a little because I relate so much. The funny thing is, I didn’t even realise the negative way I felt about my body before I started poling. Poling heals, guys.
Annnnd, I kinda want to go to your studio now. All those happy, smiley faces are super inviting!

So I just watched it. Great interview! Loved getting some background on the site. I think it made me appreciate this space and the community even more than I did before. Seriously, without studioveena, I’d probably still just be sitting at my desk, daydreaming about what it’d be like to even *touch* a pole.
    So, thanks Veena πŸ™‚
By the way, you teased about some upcoming new vids… Could you maybe give us a clue about what they may be? Or are they a closely guarded secret?

I love love love the Pole Parlour podcast! It’s a great resource for anyone interested in the history of the pole community. Also, it’s just awesome to get to know some of the big names in pole. Some of the interviewees have turned me into a fan with their personalities alone, πŸ˜›
I can’t wait to hear your interview, Veena! πŸ˜€

So how does it work if you’ve already got a subscription? I followed Veena’s link and then clicked the banner, but it lead me to a “contact” page.

This isn’t my thread, but as a newbie who just failed at a pole climb for the 100th time (literally 10 mins ago), I just want to say you guys are awesome.

I don’t feel so frustrated anymore after reading through your posts πŸ™‚

Thanks so much your suggestions guys! It’s times like this I wish I lived in the US. Unfortunately stuff like cornhuskers lotion and lubiderm aren’t available on this side of the atlantic. But I’ll definitely look into the liquid chalk and the aloe vera gel and see how it goes.
