I have to echo the sentiments of everyone else here.  I get really dry legs in the winter but have really sweaty hands (sucky combination) and last winter I was so frustrated – I could not even demonstrate a pole sit in class.  I bought Pole Physics from ETED and it worked like a charm.  I can put it on just a couple of hours before class and be sticky.  Corn huskers is great for instant grip and doesn't rub off on the pole.   if you use too much will come off on the pole – so have to let it dry pretty good before getting up there, i-tac I like in small doses and never my hands because it turns into a slick but I put a bit between the thighs and knee pits and it works great – you also wanna give that aminute to dry too.

Shelly – I would LOVE to hear your opinions on anything – whether unpopular or not…most of my opinions aren't too popular – that's why I started a blog, lol!  You are definitely someone I admire in this community.  🙂

I just surfed netflix and I can't find it either!  I'll try to find the DVD today maybe it isn't called Divine Movement – although that is the name of the studio the woman who filmed the DVD's is from.  From what I remember it's all off the pole moves but it was a really great DVD.  I'll be back with more info soon I hope.

I'd LOVE to go on that retreat!!!!

I think that even sensual dancing and organic dancing need to be learned through loose choreography and practiced until it becomes a part of your movement.  I teach a group class that is a follow the leader class and it's basically only transitions, all we do is switch up the way we go into them and we work on slowing up or moving faster and find seamless ways to get in and around the pole.

I highly recommend picking 3-4 transitions and using them in a dance – just those transitions – when the transitions become a part of your body then the tricks easily fall into place.  I find I have to practice dance as much as I have to practice certain tricks.

If you have netflix see if you can get the Divine Movement DVD's they are very S Factorish.

Another option is to create a pole dancing group and add people you know who pole and keep all your pole stuff in the group – so only those who are members can see it.

I have 2 facebook pages – one for family and people I know in real life and another for pole.  Although on a funny note with that, Alethea is friends on both accounts and posted something rather raunchy for my birthday and my dad found it – lol!  The whole point was to be able to be raunchy with you guys and clean it up a bit for my dad – oh well!

I have Amy with me for the weekend but my friend Kathleen has like 4 bedrooms and lives by herself so she will have space for people who need a host.  🙂

Hi Paulette!  sorry I missed this.  We are still in negotiations with a few venues…we will have exact venue by next week.  We are looking in the Metro Detroit Area – Oakland County.  If you're coming your best places to stay are Southfield, Madison Heights, Royal Oak, Troy area.

I'll announce the venue soon!  🙂

The venue we like the MOST is in Southfield, MI

Along the lines of judges knowing you….yeah I really hate dancing for judges that know me, particularly those who I have taken privates or classes with because they know my weak points as I've discussed it with them.  I feel like it's harder to impress someone you know.

Online judging?  I don't like it.  My video was a selection for pole dancing universe but to be honest I only tried a little bit to get votes from my friends that I knew would – I hate asking people to vote for me, especially when I truly think some of the other videos are better.  I don't think online voting gets the most qualified competitor, I think it gets the person with the biggest mailing list.  I'd still accpet a spot in a competition should I have gotten it through online voting but knowing me I'd walk in feeling far less secure about it.

On another note – pole and competitions are still really new and online voting is another way for others to feel badly about themselves when they aren't selected, especially if they have a good video…I just see too much tension.  Let judges make decisions 🙂

I could never do the Marley until I realized the pain was coming from my calf muscles being really tight (the knee pit wasn't an issue really because I do tons of knee held things.)

My favorite entry into this is out of a sideways cuddled position.  From a flipped gemini position, tuck you legs and bring thme together, grab the top foot and push out, arch your back and grab the bottom foot.

I do it at 1:28 in this vid on FB http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=2715180518439&set=vb.1224746402&type=2&theater

I'll upload the video here on Veena too onceI get it off my phone 😀

Being someone with smaller hands I typically prefer the 45mm to the 50.  With that being said I still try to maintain practice on both.  I think 50 is still overall better for beginners because it increases grip strength and basic climbs and sits are easier on the thicker pole.  One of the studios I work at has both 45's and 50's and I find students go between the 2 depending on what they are working on.  I own 2 50's and 3 45's at the moment and 45 is the one that's up in my pole room.  When I get it together I plan to have a 50 and a 45 in my basement so I can go between the two poles.

I like 45's for comepetitions though – they are much easier for most people I feel.  I know leg hangs suck on a 45 but there are so many variations of hangs and laybacks so I think the ease of hand grip outweighs the difficulty of laybacks or hangs.

@sensualscimitar – I don't own a studio – LOL!  The 3 of the PS poles were used for a short bit for teaching in a yoga room and the rest have just been collected over time.

    I'm down to just 1 PS oldschool super pole, 1 50mm chrome X, 1 45mm chrome x, 1 45mm tg x and 1 x-stage….still a rather large collection for someone who just teaches.

@Madison – if you just want a stationary pole – I also just thought of the X-pole sport.  In the future you might want a spinner.  I thought I'd never want a spinner when I started which is why I bought the Lil Minx but within a year or so I realized I wanted to SPIN and that's when I moved to the portable PS pole…but if you just get something static you will save money now…so just some food for though.

I've only been on PS brass and MArkstar Brass (markstar is an industrial tubing company – they don't make home poles) and they both felt the same to me.  Brass is the grippiest pole out there – not so grippy you can't spin but once you start sitting, inverting and using it for moves where your body grips the pole – it certainly sticks and leaves it's mark on you, lol!

I generally recommend students purchase chrome or stainless steel poles simply because you never know if you're going to want to perform at some point and those are the 2 most common finishes you will run into.

Brass also has more upkeep than chrome or stainless – which is the benefit of the titanium coated poles.  The downside to titanium coated poles is the finish wears off and can do so rather quickly – grip isn't effected by this but some people aren't too happy when their pole is gold and silver.

I've had 5 PS Stainless poles, 3 Chrome X-poles, 1 titanium x-pole and 1 powder coated LM.  I've never had the finish peel off of any of the 3 chrome poles I have (although I have heard it can happen) and one of my chromes is 4 years old and has been used the most.

Powder coating (colored poles) is another option you have for grip.  Lil Minx makes them  -they are semi permanant so you have to drill – but they offer a ton of grip (almost too much like the brass I feel) but it's a less expensive option than brass but currently not available in a multipiece or pressure mount…but it's something to consider if you like really grippy poles 🙂

OMG – have I really owned 10 poles?!?!
