But guys for the star you can’t cross your ankles because your one leg is extended right? Granted the extended leg/foot is probably relieving a lot of the pressure, but still! Veena you make it look so simple and painless in your lesson! If only I could press my hips forward maybe I could get it… Oh and I’m trying to get it from the floor so maybe its easier to get into from gemini? I just don’t trust me knee enough to try the gemini yet. I thought I’d break it in with the star from the ground. Hmmm….

And yes thank you for the advice and the pic… I can see how crossing might be more painful and harder on the joint. Yet I can appreciate how some would feel more secure with ankles crossed. I’m gonna try both but aim for no crossing and see how it goes.

So many talented, experience Veeners to help! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Oh no its definitely not bursitis. The only time I feel the pain is when I practice my center splits (specifically part my legs and lean forward). Its as if 95% of the stretch/tension I feel is at my right pes anserine. Sharp tug right at that point! I guess I can just keep gentley practicing?? I’m just open to other suggestions. *sigh* Anyways you ladies with your splits are my heros!

I think I suffer from the same right knee pain PoleSkivvies! Even after a good warm up. I specifically feel it at my pes anserine if you have any specific suggestions for this Veena…

Jonesy I would mostly try them in order since Veena has strategically built the lessons basic to more complicated (pole sit then wrist sit, or crusifix then pole climb or half spin to fireman). There are a couple that I need to watch two or three or even four times, and that I’ll go back to later down the road. Some you can probably pick up on right away. I broke them down into stretching and strength training the first day, her floorwork and climbs etc. the second day, and then the spins the thrid day…. but doing so many spins at one time made me pretty sick so you might want to mix things up a little more! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif I think as long as you follow the basic structure, your individuality will determine how you bounce around! Have fun and let us know how things go!

Even though I have a laptop, I find myself watching Veena’s lessons in my living room, and then running down to the basement to try the move a few times. She breaks them down nicely, and they’re mostly so short that if you watch them 2 or 3 times, its not a problem to leave the room and go give it a try yourself. I don’t think it would be necessary to have computer next to pole – at least in the beginning.

I just got my first pole up yesterday, but I want you to know that I think you’re GREAT! In fact you’re one of my pole idols!

Once when I went for a photography session, the photographer asked if I was a dancer. I told her that no, I’d never danced before, and she told me a moved like a dancer. Naturally! I think you’ve got a lot more of that natural grace than you give yourself credit.

    Keep on rocking!

Plywood might help! I think standard stipple tends to be looser than artex so it might knock off easier even with plywood…. but I really love patterned artex so maybe me wrecking the ceiling will be a good way to get the stipple replaced with something much prettier! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I had a cup of Fage Greek Yogurt with honey and an ounce of walnuts, 2 slices of turkey bacon, and some nasty ass egg beaters. For lunch, I had a lean brisket sammich on wheat and an apple bran muffin from starbucks with a nutritional value of shit, I’m sure. But it was really good.

For dinner, I’m going to eat an "asian salad" premade, cause we’re in the process of moving- topped with shrimp and onions. I’m also going to finish off some portobello mushroom fajitas that I made a few days ago- and maaaybe if I’m still hungry later on I’ll eat a black bean veggie burger.

    MMM.

LMAO! Omgosh – Amcut you always have some awesome posts but this one really cracks me up! Nasty ass egg beaters – I love it! Teehee!

PS – What an awesome thread this is!! Brilliant!

I agree – make sure to get enough K. Potatoes and OJ work if you don’t like bananas.
AND… milk! Get more calcium. I could explain it on a cellular level (sodium/potassium pumps and the role calcium plays) but, *yawwwnn* who needs that kind of excitement in their life? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_study.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I agree with everyone else. And…. maybe he feels threatened by your confidence and skills? Maybe he doesn’t understand your reason for doing it and he’s worried he might somehow lose you if you were to go public with it? I think jealousy and a lack of self-confidence play a big role in a lack of support a lot of the time (not just in poling!) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif I think if you were to start by making him feel extra secure in your relationship and let him know more often that he is a catch, you could slowly start to include him by asking for input and advice. Maybe you could get him to spot you for a new move and then let him know how much you appreciate him being there for you. Poling does NOT = skanky. Just because you love to dance doesn’t mean you’re going to start sleeping around.

Your right! I guess I just don’t feel like I’m really acccomplishing much and achieving my potential strength unless I feel the pain from a high weight/low rep or low weight/high rep go to total failure technique. Maybe I’m addicted to DOMS https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif

I agree – keep practicing. When I first started massaging, I found it soo hard to get my stupid, DUMBass left hand/arm to cooperate. Eventually it caught on because it had to. Its really more about training your brain than anything – start trying to do more day to day things (like brushing your hair or your teeth) with your left hand, and good luck! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

Chilli – also a great idea. Very filling! Haven’t had chilli in a while….

if there wasnt 10 inches of snow outside i’m sure i could grill too!! he’ll eat anything that comes off a grill. taco salad is a great idea! i could even do it with ground turkey. i’m probably going to start trolling the internet for recipes. hopefully i’ll turn something up.

My bad haha! It never occured to me that other people might be deterred by snow – I guess maybe BBQing in the snow is a Canadian thing? You’d have all your neighbors looking at you funny! (There! At least I used the American spelling of the word neighbors https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif )

I don’t suppose an electric grill would achieve the same taste. But the zucchini slices work well on a cookie sheet in the oven too. They’re kinda like really healthy chips but not quite as crunchy.

My bf puts salsa, a little sour cream and crushed tortilla chips in his taco salad and that seems to work for him https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

If you have carpet where your pole is…would it be possible to maybe cut some plywood or something and cut out a little space for the pole (see the picture I attached) and then buy some kind of tile (maybe even hardwood floor tiles…like the cheap vinyl-ly ones) and stick them on top so there is kind of a cheap "stage"…wouldn’t really call it a stage, but you girls who have hardwood floors or vinyl, it looks a lot easier to spin around the pole…

What do you girls think? I can’t get a Platinum Stage because it would suffocate my living room & my boyfriends friends wouldn’t like it for Monday Night Football =)

SORRY! I’m just so excited to be setting up my pole space!!! =)

If someone gives this a shot, will you please post your results? I’m sort of worried that the hardwood or plywood or whatever would slide/move around on the carpet with enough force (depending on the backing?)! Otherwise I’ve also considered that idea – it somehow makes the area seem more dance-studio like?

Sounds like we’re in the same boat! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

My bf’s developed a like for fresh veggies and low fat ranch dip…
He’s also started grilling several different types of veggies on the BBQ. He’ll season asparagus or broccoli and do them in tinfoil, or sprinkle zucchini with olive oil, garlic and parmesan cheese.
Otherwise you can compromise with meat and veggie stirfrys, soups, or whole-wheat wraps, and a taco salad has ground beef with lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, etc…

I still don’t think we eat enough veggies, and I know they lose some of their nutritional value when you cook them certain ways… Let us know if you come up with any solutions! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that the new x-sport is static like the kendra, but the new x-pert does spin, and they are both bottom loading… I think the x-pert is about $450.00 US including shipping? Don’t quote me on it but check it out.

Poor thing! That does sound nasty…

Have you tried taking several breaks throughout the day to stretch rather than sitting for too long of a period? Stacey Nemour’s Secrets of Splits and Flexibility has some really amazing stretches for the glutes, IT band, etc. – some I’ve never seen before and have begun recommending to some of my clients… The online DL is $10.00 – could be worth it if you can start taking breaks during the day. Is there something more erganomic for you to sit on?

Have you been to a massage therapist or physiotherapist for some passive stretching (where someone else performs the movements for you)? When the brain is not involved in doing the work, the stretch is more effective. I find that a PNF technique is particularly effective, and any trained therapist should know what to do.

And what about heat? Or accupuncture?

Everyone is different so maybe consider trying one of the above or even a combination??

Anyway I hope you feel better soon! You’ll have to let us know how its going – Good Luck!
