Oh and Meluna's are made out of TPE (thermoplastic elastomer = mix of polymers).
I got my cloth panty liners from Party in My Pants, but I know there are other companies that make them (online.)
Here is my big question with the cup (I can't wrap my head around this): Can you go upside down or even lie down with it? Wouldn't everything you collected like tip back into you? I can just imagine how that would feel and just be kind of gross... :S
Yes you can go upside down and or sleep while wearing a cup. It does seem rather odd when you hear people talk about them, but they are IMHO a nifty thing.
Sorry to hijack the thread, but do you wash and dry your cloth pads? I don't think I dare to use the cup.
I began using Instead cups back in the day before they were in stores and had to order them directly from the website... Tried them once and never looked back - I'd find it torturous to have to use a tampon or worse yet a pad lol I've introduced every woman I know to them; there's been a few who it's just not for but as a general rule, almost all the woman I know LOVE them!

What I read on the livejournal forum about being upside-down/laying down with a cup is that it isn't much different from pads. TMI warning: cover your eyes, men. You know when you shift in your seat, stand, or get up from bed and suddenly you gush into your pad? All that was up in there, if that is normal/safe, then using a cup certainly is :D Like liquidnude said, cups are not for everyone, I just figured I'd clarify that it wouldn't be anything you haven't experienced.
Because I have not used the cup, I only can imagine. Please correct me if I'm wrong. The pad is always there and touches Miss V but all the liquid are inside it, not much to go back. I can only feel wet a little. But the cup keeps all the liquid and liquid can flow back inside my body if I invert. Did I pain the picture right?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the cups cover the cervix, so if you were to invert, yeah the contents will tip back, but it won't go out of the cup. It also will not go back into your cervix. It's like if you were to do inverted yoga poses. It'll drip back, but then it will run back into the cup (or out if you wear pads) when you become vertical again.
I'm a Diva Cup fan myself. Hello Ladies! I've been following this thread for a bout a week and I must say I'm intrigued by the concept. I was even looking for it at some stores. Here's the rub, I have a Latex allergy which seems to include most rubbers. After reading the post about the infection, that's the LAST thing I need. Any thoughts? I know this is out of left field but I figure picking the brains of women that have used them isn't a bad thing :)
The Divacup is made of silicon and shouldn't affect you if you have a latex allergy. Other cups may be made with other materials, but the Divacup is definitely silicon.
I'm glad I read through this thread again...sounds like the menstrual cup has improved since I last tried the instead cup over 10 years ago. I'm going to give the diva cup or Lunette cup a try soon. I'm so sick of being activity ridden while on my period. Enough is enough!
@Jester yes the cups are made from either medical grade silicon or T.P.E. depending on which brand you buy.
And yes you can wash the cloth pads like you do your other laundry. Think some of the cloth pad sites will give you a wet bag for washing them in your washer. There are even sites where you can sew your own cloth pads. Think they are usually made of fleece. Someone will have to correct me if I'm wrong. TY ;)

All are designed to be non-irritating. (The Keeper is rubber, Meluna is TPE, and the others are Silicone). If you don't have an allergy (some people are irritated by silicone, others are allergic to latex rubber) choosing the right fit is more important. Someone mentioned a "cup" to me last month and I shuddered in horror. I just thought it sounded gross! Anyway a week later I was looking through SV with my new membership (yay love SV!) and saw this thread. After reading all your comments I decided to give the cup a go....I am now a total convert. No leaks, no odour and no mess. Thank you so much ladies! This small item is really making a significant change in my life.
Ok i have a question... Can you see it at all once its in place? Ie for stripper friendly? I'm not dancing anymore but alot if my friends do and cut the string our tuck it adds they can back fire lol

I have tried both the Instead SoftCups and the DivaCup and for my anatomy, I prefer the Instead SoftCups. The "tail" of the DivaCup pokes the opening of my v-jay which makes it uncomfortable. I even tried trimming the tail and that didn't help. I started out with the Instead SoftCups many years ago but thought they were discontinued which is why I went for the DivaCup. Now that I know the Instead SoftCups are in fact NOT discontinued, I have switched back.
