I am thinking about ordering a Meluna Cup. They got better critics than DivaCup in most forums I read. It is a product from Germany, and it comes in classic and soft, and in 3 sizes! i've heard of the instead cup and have used it,it's ok,but i don't think it holds as much fluid as they claim,as for using it while you're doing with your guy,well,it works,but the thing is,the guy can still somehow feel there's something in you,so i don't if it helps.can you tell more about the diva cup?i live in ny,so i'm if this is something i can find,or even the meluna cup
I had used the disposable instead cups several years ago and they worked well. I think I stopped using them because of a freaky incident I had. Once at the start of a period, I put a new cup in and several hours later when I retrieved it, two cups came out. I relized that I must have never removed the last cup from the previous period. I had forgotten about it for a whole month! So, yeah, it was definately there more than the recommended 12 hours. Nothing bad happened. I didn't get any infections, but that really made me feel crazy and pretty weird. I'm curious about giving the reusuable cups a try. Hopefully, I wouldn't forget to take it out if it had the stem part.
Sooo, I've had enough time now to try the Meluna cup (thank you Crystal aka Witchess for liking my post and reminding me of this thread! 😀) First things first: I love it. I am never going back to using tampons. Ever. Noooooo way. I like that it does not dry you out, and that it's absolutely no harm to your body. You can't get sick from it - tampons can make you sick. I absolutely love the fact that it's much better for Mother Nature, aaaaand for your purse! ^^ (Really ... calculate how much money you spend on tampons etc. in one year. It must be around 100-150€ or 130-200USD. It's way too much. And then imagine how much waste there is, just because of this. Unbelievable.) Another good thing about it is, no more fear of a blue thread hanging out of your bottoms when you're going swimming! True, removing it needed a bit of practise. And sometimes a little bit comes out to stain my underwear. But that was the same with tampons - when I started to use them, I had to practise how to get it in and out (and even after years it hurt sometimes), and often hald of it would be soaked through, leaving stains in my panties, while the other half was as dry as a new one. Which hurt when I removed it. Ugh. (I talked to my best friend about it, and apparently, that's not something that only happened to me.) The only downside for me is, that I don't always have one at hand when the period starts surprisingly. You can't buy cups in the shops here, so if it really surprises me when I am on the road and there is no time to go home, I'll have to use those much hated tampons (buy them, or borrow one, or find another way not to bleed in my jeans until I come home). I can not compare the Meluna to other brands, as I've only tried this one, but I can certainly recommend it. I prefer the one with the ball to the one with the stem or the ring. Can't imagine using it without anything at the bottom now, though. 😎
I've used the lunette cup for a while (not currently just because I'm pregnant) and had no problems. I have to agree with you, gingercake, that I would not go back to tampons. I've never had the problem of not having it at the start of a period. I just always keep it ready in my purse. As I did with tampons, I wear a back up panty liner in case of leakage.

yup! i agree! i'd never go back to tampons! i've been using a cup for 4+ years & it's so much better & you don't get that "OMG i'm gonna die" feeling from them like you do (well , i did) from tampons :)

Another vote for the Divacup. I love mine. It's a lot more comfortable than tampons, less expensive, and actually helped reduce my cramps. I will warn you though... (TMI) I once had the cup "leak" while I was in pole class. Apparently doing a challenging invert can make things move around a bit, and it must not have been positioned properly. When I came back down from the pole and went right side up... I knew I had to run to the bathroom. The lesson is... wear black shorts during class that week, just in case!

yup! if you don't twist the cup enough for it to "pop" open it will leak BAD! lol! i found that out the hard way when i first statred using one... when in question keep twisting it!
YW Ginger! I use MeLuna's also and adore them immensely. Yes no TSS from using tampons when using a cup and you won't get micro tears in your vaginal walls from inserting a tampon. I am very pro cup and get a lil crazy over it. And in a woman's lifetime if she stuck with pads, she'll throw about 13,000 of them away into the landfill. I have tried Diva (the largest on the market), and it was just too big for me. I also have used and own Lady Cups, they're nice and beautifu colours, but the staggered holes are a pain and therefore cannot hold as much fluid. So finally had to go back to the drawning board and purchase another brand, which was my MeLuna's and they've worked beauitfuly ever since. I have the ones with no stem/ball/ring plus on all the cups I've owned. I filed down the ridges or cut the stems off and smoothed em out with a file, just have to be careful you don't go to far. Soft Cups are alright, the disposable cups, but they're different shaped and don't want to insert nice and will twist on me trying to get them in right. http://menstrual-cups.livejournal.com/ P.S. I will become exhausted faster when I workout. I will feel the changes with my stomach (bigger, feeling heavy & not normal...) Mine comes very steadily. This month on the 15th. Next month the 11. I just count 4 days back. In recent months it came a few days late. Could be that I had visitors stayed in my house who gave me stress for a week. Otherwise I'm going to enter my "pre-golden age" 😀(when I'm going to have less and no period soon). Interesting topic btw. Heard of this cup thing from a vegan personal trainer. I bet it's not for a virgin.
I can't use tampons...I get Toxic shock :( so I normally don't/can't practice pole or swim etc on my period. I've tried the cup it didn't work, I still had leakage...my uterus is tipped though so that may have been part of the problem. @studioveena the cups are made of latex I believe. They have a cup at Target & Walmart called Instead, this is one I tried. It's I'm the tampon/ pad section.
I have tried the sea sponge (stripper & porn star trick) on my first & 3rd days & it worked fairly well better than the cup did & i had sex with it in place but it only worked for a couple hours, then i had leakage...I blame my tipped uterus again lol
I know on the live journal link that has been listed, there are some posters who talk about having a tilted/tipped uterus. I am sorry that the sea sponge isn't working for you Cali. I haven't tried them myself, but was always curious. As for the Instead cups, I have tried those and personally they'll work for me in a pinch. But I almost never can get them to set right, since you have to place them slightly differently than a regular menstrual cup. But who knows, it could work for you. I'd say give it a whirl. And depending on the cup brand if we're talking regular cups and not the insteads, they're made from either medical grade silicon or T.P.E. And yep virgins can use them ;) LOL
OMG THE MELUNA SPORT LOOKS AMAZING AND I WANT ONE LIKE RIGHT NOW!!!! That looks like it would completely address my one beef with the diva cup. It's true what the comment on it is, if you have a strong pelvic floor and a soft cup, you compress it and it breaks the seal because it can't hold it's shape :-/
Cali...it took me 4 months to finally figure out my DC. I too have a tipped uterus. What worked for me is just getting the rim in, let it unfolde, THEN push it in....remember back toward the tailbone, not up. As soon as the rim gets behind the pubic bone (u will feel the give) then push I just a tad further. I also cut the stem off, otherwise it was poking out. Give it a try, and don't give up an it yet!
Also for the cups there are many different folds that can be done. I personally use the two basic folds, but there are other folding options. I'd check out youtube for the folding videos.
I think I'm the only person in the world who has had a really bad experience with the Diva Cup. lol. I'm like.. still traumatized from this.. lol. I followed the directions exactly but sadly Diva Cup failed me. :( My first period using it, I ended up getting a massive internal infection that caused painful lesions on my cervix and had to go on antibiotics. The infection spread to my uterus and to this day my doc doesn't know the extent of the damage caused to me. We are still investigating and I am still waiting on my referral to a specialist. This may affect my fertility. GASP! Not only that, I still have not recovered from this. I cannot wear tampons anymore. I used to before the Diva Cup but now it just hurts. In my opinion, I think the Diva Cup is just not made for me. I think my vagina is too small and caused lots of friction and rubbing when I walked. I also have a tilted uterus too. My doc thinks that because you can wear the cup for a long time that bacteria just built up and went into my cervix and uterus instead of allowing blood to flow out properly. So I guess I am just one of those women who need to allow the blood to just flow out of me and sit around my cervix for 12 hours. : And I'm sad about this because I really wanted to be able to never have to buy pads again and just use my Diva. Oh well. :(
Ack I am so sorry MrsNaughtywed that is truly awful. I hope they are able to get to the bottom of everything. :(
I've switched to cloth pads! So far I like em. I cannot stand putting things IN. Better out than in for me!
@AerialGypsy, I use pads too but I just buy. Do they have cloth pads for sale? Thanks.

SexyRockStarsWife would have some idea, but I noticed they sell cloth pads on the FemineWear.co.uk site. They look very easy to make too. Maybe once darlingdearest gets back from her vacation she can also give some pointers :)
