I’m 45. I started poling @ 7 years ago. Fell in love with it the first night. It was @ 3 years later before I learned to invert. (Up to that point I was just enjoying the dance and didn’t know there was anything other than a Scorpio aka descending angel!) I agree with some of the other women who’ve posted. Sometimes it takes me longer to learn a move (I don’t want to hurt myself), but my years have taught me patience and persistence! Sometimes the aches last longer, but it’s so worth it. It’s my “happy place”. I feel like a kid on the monkey bars. Oh and ladies, flexibility(splits) has nothing to do with age. I just got my left split this year (always had my right, but never could do the left, but recently I just kept working at it. My middle and pancake splits are next!) Two years ago I was National silver medalist for Masters. I teach at a local studio now (it’s my second job, the one I do for fun) and love helping women find themselves and feel strong. It’s sensual, empowering and just plain fun. Competing challenges you by putting a deadline in front of you to learn and master some of the scarier moves. I found It also changes why you dance – so just be aware of that if you decide to pursue the competition end of things. I’ve met some fantastic women through pole- it really is a sisterhood. Keep supporting each other, sharing with each other and cheering each other on. That’s one of the best parts of pole – and one of the best parts of poling over 40. We know what’s important. 😉 xo

I started at 46 – will be 54 this year. Even though I had done weight training for a long time, loved the new challenges of pole plus the expression of dance. Also, didn’t really work seriously on flexibility until I was almost 50 & people now constantly comment on that when I’m doing bendy training at the gym saying things like, “you must have ALWAYS been flexible” & ” you have to be predisposed to that” – no, I’ve just worked really hard at it. I love pole dance & don’t plan to stop anytime soon.

I restarted pole at the age of 38 and I just turned 45 last week.

49 years old now and started poling 4 years ago. I was always into fitness and was a body builder in my 30’s and personal trainer. I took one pole fitness class and was hooked immediately. Now I am an instructor. I am the oldest instructor but our oldest student is 59 and amazing! I also work the lyra and love both. Hale to all the 40+ polers out there. We are bad to the (slightly older)bones!

I’m 47 years old, poling for approx 6 years and is addicted to it. I am a pole instructor and 1st instructor in Canada certified and teaches Polesilks combination of pole dance on spin with aerial fabric attached to top of pole). I did my 1st showcase last year which was the scariest thing I have ever done but loved the whole experience. I was really proud of my self for having the courage to perform as it always scared me. If you have not seen it I have that Bridal routine performance posted in my videos. I just submitted this year for the Canadian Pole fitness master competition and hope to get in. Its on my bucket list to compete so I can experience that journey.

I’m 42, been doing pole for about 5 years. I love it! Like a lot of other people have posted, I wish I would have started many years ago, but cant turn back time. I was never athletic by any means at anytime in my life, but one video of Karol Helms changed that for me. Then I found this site, purchased my own pole and started in. I have never looked back. In fact, I find I actually look forward to “working out”. Its always a new challenge, a new struggle, a new determination to get that move. Good day or bad day, I love pole, I can express it and I feel good about it! I have never felt better about myself, mentally, physically, and emotionally. This is a great discussion! I don’t normally contribute, but seeing so many have the same concerns (flexibility, getting hurt and healing…) I wanted to chime in, knowing I’m not alone. 🙂

I turn 40 in 2 months. I have been playing with the pole for a few months. I just got my pole back up after a move. I am excited to hit it hard now. I am over weight but love dancing. I am hoping this improves my fitness.

I’m 52 and started poling when I was 51. Like others have said, it’s one of the best things I’ve done for myself. I’m stronger, and more important, more confident in many ways. I absolutely love it and will be poling for as long as I can! Did my first invert during our last session, yay!

Yeeessss! I’m 41 and love this new journey..
.started about 9 more ago and can’t wait to see what the next 9mo bring! -
44 here and started last year. So it has been less than a year.
My progress is slow as other people mentioned I get muscle aches much more than young girls.
And recovery takes longer so I have to rest enough in order to engage my muscles to hang on the pole again. This means learning is rather slow but I am definitely making progress.
I will not stop no matter what though and plan to pole the rest of my life. (Which means I have all the time I want to make progress so I am not in a hurry. (-: )
Sooooooo glad there are so many brave ladies out there living in no fear of learning pole, haha!
You gals are awesome!!! -
I just turned 54 and started poling at the tender age of 52… I am so happy that I found pole dancing. It has helped me create a vibrant and positive life and has given me back strength that I didn’t realize was slipping away so quickly. I am one of those folks who cringe at hearing someone say “you’re too old to do that”. It has been a slow journey and yet, I’ve never been so determined to do something so physically and mentally challenging… I see continuing onward and upward with pole for a very long time.

Poling since April 2009. Love every minute of it. I am 45 now and use poling as my relaxing stress reliever. I kick my butt every class since work keeps me off the pole 5 out of 7 days. Wish I would have started sooner since I love love love it.

Poling since September 2008. I have 49 years and I can’t imagine a week without my pole . For me this is the best way to keep my body and my mind in “full shape ” .I think at my age everyting is possible ,but ,I have to do more stretching before and after poling . 😉
