Here’s the funny part–3 people, including my husband, has sent me the link to the newstory about Miley pole dancing! Yikes.

Apparently that show was filmed well over a year ago. The woman she and her mom took the class from is my former instructor, Susan Hilferty in Coral Gables, FL. I’m going to guess the Hogan women were a handful!

I actually watched the show because an east coast friend had mentioned it on Facebook. Honestly, the girl came out, got on top of the ice cream truck and sang her song. It looked to me like she used the pole more as support while she sang and the truck moved. SHE DID NOT DO ANY MOVEMENTS THAT YOU COULD EVEN CONSIDER DANCING. I didn’t even see the point of her being there except maybe to elevate her so more of the audience could see her. If she had actually been pole dancing, I would have felt very uneasy about her because of her age and her influence on young girls. But truly, she wasn’t pole dancing at all.

I’m sorry, I thought the confusion had been cleared up!
The flamingo that I had been taught and currently teach, is what I’ve heard referred to as "pole overs". It’s a standing move, hooking the knee either in front of the pole or around from the back. You can arch or bend in any direction. I had a student perform that move because her hands were very, very wet and she couldn’t grip in any way. If I’m not describing it correctly, imagine first a knee hold, then imagine releasing the bottom leg straight down until the foot is in the floor. That would be a front flamingo (to me). -

Clearly she wanted you, but thought that both you and her club would make more money if some changes were made. I think it would be a total drag if she hired you on your incredible talent and then you wasted hour after hour NOT making any money! I’m sorry you were hurt but try to look at this in the most positive light: IF you want to tone things up, you’ve got a great job waiting for you at the end of the month and that’s a great motivator! Don’t not do it because it hurt your ego if it is something you want. More than likely you will come against worse with girls in the club or customers. You gotta have tough skin to work in the entertainment industry and even tougher skin to work in the adult entertainment industry. Ages ago when I was trying to become an actress in NY, I would get cut from castings (even though they liked me a lot) because I am Chinese. It’s nothing I can do anything about and it’s nothing I would do anything about if given the choice. Figure out if it’s worth it to you–whether you will get what you want in the end, and if the ends justify the means. We’re behind you 100%!

Please gush as much as you want, because we’ll all agree that Wendy is FREAKING AMAZING! Thanks again for posting a vid from the workshop. It looked like the best fun and that through her amazingness, encouraged each person to go beyond her perceived limits–which to me, is the markings of a true Teacher. You guys are really lucky!

I believe that on the Lil Mynx, you can make it slightly shorter or taller by twisting the top part–at least on the stainless ones. There’s an arrow that should let you know but I think it’s clockwise to make it shorter and counterclockwise for taller. I’m not sure about the powder coated ones, though. I hope this helps!

Yes, they are what FreeTheSun called "pole overs". I just learned it as flamingo:
front flamingo: knee is hooked in front of the pole
back flamingo: knee is hooked around back of the pole
In the club world, when you bend over (any which way), it gives the audience a peek at your "bits and pieces". -
My jaw is on the floor…
She is so mind-blowing! The thing that is so amazing is that she doesn’t do any overtly sensual movements–it’s her grace and effortless flow from one move to another that is so sexy (to me). Of course I "favorited" the vid immediately and will be watching it over and over again.

Holy crap! That was utterly amazing! Incredible invert combos and very original tricks but still had lots of dance elements. Really awesome!

Yay! So happy for you!

I’m not sure about Canadian building code, but here in Vegas, I believe that condos and hotels all have concrete ceilings. If this is true where you are, you MAY be able to put up your pole anywhere because there aren’t any joists. Ask the building manager.

She is lovely and super talented Gyrokinesis Master Trainer and an allaround great gal. I’m not sure of her schedule but you can Google her. (And if you do end up taking classes with her, please tell her that Sasha in Las Vegas sends a big hug and kiss!)
The thing about Gyrokinesis is that it’s like giving yourself a deep massage. As great as that sounds, it’s not something that you can do every day or even every other day–your body needs to recover and assimilate the movement you’ve just fed it. But it is addictive (just like pole) and your body craves it after experiencing it. If you weren’t poling, I’d say go for the 2 classes per week, but since you are dedicated to your pole (plus other things, probably), start with 1 class and see what your body says. Your spine will open and your pole practice will blossom–I promise!

I have found that they have helped me understand pole a whole lot more. It all dovetails into one another. Where do you live, FreeTheSun?
