    Hi and welcome!

I was a fast learner as well as I had also been lifting for years before finding pole. Since you feel tricks are physically reasonable to do, then I would suggest some conditioning. I know that for myself when I lifted, I didn’t target a lot of the smaller muscles that are important stabilizers when doing many pole moves. There’s a bunch in the conditioning section, I still do almost all of these even now! Remember unlike training for muscle growth were you lift heavy and use lower reps (at times at least) conditioning is about lower resistance and higher reps.

I also suggest making sure to go through the lessons in order so you develop the fundamentals. I see a lot of strong dancers skip these and I can tell when they dance, transitions get sloppy and they muscle moves. The lessons here are a progression so even if they seem easy take time to work on things like pole sits, holds and climbs. Watching all of the getting started lessons (first lesson in each section) will give you an idea on how to structure your pole sessions as well. Remember rest is super important!

PS I love watching bellydance and have done a TINY bit myself so feel free to share any videos with us, we like all kinds of dance here!

Ok great!! It’s super common to not be able to hold the body up so don’t stress about that, it will come!

My “dismissing attitude” is not over racism but the ARTICLE. The timing of the article seemed like a ploy to get people rilled up drawing attention to the BK blog over the halloween season. Which of course will sell costumes. The over all tone of the article was not caring or encouraging others to learn more about each others culture, but rather accusatory. It was written in a way that made it sound as if this was a raging issue among pole dancers.

I’ve not seen anyone making videos on here or creating routines for competitions where they have used costuming in an offensive way. Maybe is it an issue that I have not come across yet, but it’s not happening in videos I’ve seen. Had I been seeing many dancers choosing costumes that may offend that would be a different story, and we would need to get the word out for sure! I just haven’t seen these offenders.

I don’t see any REGULAR members being hateful or racist in anyway, the hate is coming from outside our SV community. I see members who are upset over the tone of an article….and it seems wrong to use such a powerful thing like racism to sell costumes.

Yes, if you don’t feel 100% sure of your grip don’t go for it. Glad you’re ok. If you haven’t watched it yet, my last Periscope was on fear and overcoming fears. I talk about how awareness is most important! https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/5632ba12-6de8-430c-bc75-1e2eac11006c

I don’t think I have you doing pole holds yet by day 3? However, if you find the Pole Hold Strength lesson is too challenging start with the Pole Hold https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/54921dfb-d4f0-474e-b098-238d0a9aa0eb This one gives you more options to work up to both feet off. 🙂

If you have never poled before and have taken more than 4 days off from the program, start again. Keep in mind that I do include rest days so you’re not going to be working out everyday. I also include conditioning and flexibility training so there is no need to try and find other things to work on, unless you want to. Everything is there for you to progressively move on. Keep in mind that I tried to keep workout days under an hour most average about 30 mins of your time, that way those with kids and jobs can find time to fit in their training! Let me know if you have any other questions! 😀

Oh and you can get a valued mount and they sell these sturdy competition level joints that make the pole more durable for higher ceilings. At least that is what I had been told before.

Are you brand new to pole? If you have not been pole dancing before then yes, start over. If you have previously been dancing then it’s ok to start back where you left off. 😊

That’s funny because someone today was asking pretty much the same questions and had been dancing off and on for 3 yrs!

If you’re just getting back into things even if you don’t feel “new” to pole the 30 day take off program is a great place to start, it’s great for the on again off again poler! It will help you understand how to structure your pole practice, and allow you to build strength back up.

If you have a phone with a camera just use that, you don’t need anything to fancy. You can even upload right to here from the phone. Maybe can you use your computer to play music while you record with the phone?

This is the periscope I was talking about btw https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/5632ba12-6de8-430c-bc75-1e2eac11006c

October 29, 2015 at 8:37 pm in reply to: Lower back injury

Have you seen a dr yet? Do you know for sure it was an injury or could it have been muscular soreness?

If it’s an injury don’t continue to dance, you’ll need to take time off, we use our core including low back to stabilize and do so much in pole! jsheridan, has good advice.

Often low back pain and injury comes from weak abdominals, and just weak core muscles in general. Improper body mechanics and technique can be a cause as well, so when you do get back to poling make sure to spend some times training the core and you’ll wanna be careful and be strict on form.

Taking a week off won’t put you back and won’t allow muscles to atrophy significantly.

People can let themselves be offended by anything. I think it’s all in the intention of the person, don’t over think it.

October 27, 2015 at 6:34 pm in reply to: The no-twisty club?

Many instructors don’t understand that the twisted grip can be harmful. Sometimes it’s immediate injury like if the student isn’t flexible or strong enough and they are kicking into this grip. Sometimes it’s injury that creeps up over time with heavy use.

I RARLY use it and ONLY if I’ve been poling consistently, my shoulders thank me for that! The rare time I use it I’m inverted or for single arm handstands and I’m transitioning to something else. It’s less taxing on the shoulder if you are closer to the pole and inverted. Reaching overhead while twisted or moving far away from the pole in some transitions using TG can be risky! Even when using regular ol split grip we need to be careful not to over do it and watch both the upper and lower shoulders!

October 27, 2015 at 6:15 pm in reply to: My fist pole perfomance

    Oh that’s exciting!!!!!

My tips would be relax and enjoy yourself, no one will know if you did a spin where you had planned an invert so don’t stress over forgetting choreography! I usually just freestyle but anytime I’ve planned choreo, I listen to the music over and over while laying down and visualizing the routine. This video has tips for creating a routine. https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/52f8463f-3884-4318-b2fd-2d1c0a9aa0eb

If you normally have sweaty hands they will probably sweat more so take some time to try grip aids that work for sweaty hands. Dirty girl is the only one I can think off right now so hopefully someone else will have a suggestion for that. DON’T use itac on the hands.

Polar, I can see if someone has used the FB link to share from their video, so when you share you’ll need to do it through the big blue button otherwise you won’t qualify. While I would LOVE to see everyone sharing publicly you still qualify if you share within a group.

Sharing one more, this one was challenging again due to costume also I was a bit heartbroken to edit the video with effects because I had been able to dance cleanly through with costume! BUT I did like how the effects finished my creative process. https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/4cc6fd72-7ab4-4e36-bd8e-5bed0ac37250
