I would be worried about injury too…..Alcohol and pole don’t mix in my book…I know I’m a party pooper. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif

Great thread Charley BTW….
Today will be day 3 of stretching in a row, I have never made it past 3 times in a row since before Henry was born. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/bom.gif My focus is on middle splits (I"m soooooo close) haven’t done them since I was under the age of 10. I am also working on hamstrings and back. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif

Recheck your positioning…..To help avoid hitting the collarbone, you need to make sure your positioning the pole in closer towards the spine…NOT ON…but right at the bottom of the curve where you neck and shoulders meet on the muscle called the trapezius. If your out towards the middle or end ( away from the mid line of the body ) or your you’ll end up rolling over the collarbone. Stay in close to the neck. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Do you have blisters (ripped skin)? or calluses (hard dry skin)? People who have sweaty hands tend to get blisters, a warm pole and hot moist skin can rip. If that is the problem try to dry your hands often and give your hands and pole a break in between spins, spins heat up the pole and your hands the most. Do floorwork or transitions in between.
If its calluses then do what Roxi suggested….this is what I have to do. I have cold dry hands, so I tend to get calluses. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

Keep it slower and controlled at first and it really helped me to work on only upright moves….don’t start off with inverting on spin, this made it worse for me. Do a trick or two, then get off and do some floor work, then try a trick or to again. The worst thing I found was to try move after move https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif

I like the frog one, and I do know that if the frog is to intense, you can do it with toes together and it will be easier.
Here are some I like…
The forward fold standing and sitting works really well for me…I do both passive lower back and active… for this one remember to flex the feet not point. Stretching lower back, hamstrings and calfs.
I also like the Pyramid, active back (not rounding) This will stretch the hips, hamstrings and calf!! The best way I can discribe it would be a warrior pose..you bring your torso down over the front leg…not rounding your back.
The tree is good to help you work on hip rotation outward! fantastic for balance to. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I’m going if we can find a studio. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif I don’t wanna book a hotel hrs away from the pole jam place. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif
One more thing….if we can find a place for the pole jam I might want to send out an email inviting any members to come join us….sou there could be 10 or more….I really have no idea how many would be interested. I would really like the contact info for what ever studio is willing to host. I would like it to not only be just a pole jam…but an X mas party pole jam https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_santa.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rendeer.gif

Are we talking about hip flexion as in tight hamstrings and lower back flexibility right …having trouble folding the body over…like touching your toes?? or Tight Flexors of the hip joint…interfering with bending backwards ect..?

I am also a mommy of four. 3 boys 1 girl. I laughed watching your boys work on the spins! My 15month old was outside with me and went up to a pole and lifted his leg up and then squated down!! It was so funny cause everytime I work out he is in the basement with me. I guess all along he was picking up tips. Now when I work out he goes over to the support pole in the basement and copies me LOL!!! I have to take a vid.Haha great story!!
As for leg strength…it will come…, squats, pole sits, leg raises to name a few can all help. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Trust me its Bull ***** you can’t promise some will be able to do the splits in 3 weeks https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif Every body is unique and a lot of things factor into flexibility. Genetics, tendons, age, if your active or sedentary…..an so on. Stretching daily is a good thing and if you do it AFTER your exercise you’ll get a deeper and safer stretch than if you try to stretch a cold muscle. I have been naturally pretty flexible all my life…so for me when I loose my flexibility I can get it back with in a week or two of good 15 to 30 min stretching sessions. BUT that is only me….its not average!! For others it could take months or years to be able to do the splits. Don’t be discouraged……The good news is…EVERYONE can become more flexible https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif …….with TIME… not overnight. Here is a vid I made a while back with a few stretches for the splits and some tips too. There are others you can do these are a few of my favs. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif

edit….I do want to say that what the person says about focus is really important when doing anything body related…being in tune with your body is soooooo important and it WILL help a ton. I visualize pole moves all the time before I even do them, it works.
