AdministratorDecember 23, 2009 at 4:06 am in reply to: New to pole dancing and need encouragement! It will get better!! I do wanna make sure that we are talking about pain, as in skin contact, like hands and where skin grips the pole right? If some moves are causing sharp, sudden pain then that’s a move your either not ready for, or may not be using the right technique. Remember sore muscle are good, pain that doesn’t stop is a signal that something is wrong. Your skin will get use to it though. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Well this really isn’t with in my scope of practice to tell you if it was a tear. Ischial tuberosity is common for runners or those who sit for long periods of time also overstretching can cause this. Do you do any running? If not, then my guess would be its overstretching? Could be Ischiogluteal Bursitis I really don’t know though. You can never go wrong with rest. When stretching the legs/lower body always be sure to hold the pelvis in a neutral position, try not to tip it forward or back, this can add unnecessary stress and never stretch to the point of pain. I hope you feel better soon. Go easy when you start to stretch again..https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rendeer.gif

Grip aids aren’t for static SPINS, that’s what we were talking about in chat, you will rip up your hands….but you can use grip aid for tricks if you want. I just do like them for myself, they gunk up my pole and feel gross on my hands….I did love Jenynes butterfly balm and will be buying it as soon as she puts it on the market!
I notice a huge difference in grip between my 45mm chrome and 45mm Titanium because its cold in my pole room right now. I have dry skin and the climate where I live is dry and hot in summer and cool and moist in winter. I stick very well to my chrome in summer and I have no trouble with grip in winter as long as my body is warm.
Climate
Skin type
finish all affect grip…..I still say Chrome is the best choice for beginners, its not too grippy so they can work on spins (on static mode) and its not as slick as stainless steel and it doesn’t require you to "break in" the pole like stainless poles. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_santa.gif

I’m not sure how much this will help but here are 2 one armed vids I did when I had my bicep troubles…keep in mind my bicep issue was at the elbow not the shoulder. Non of these are to impressive or creative but maybe they’ll help. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

AdministratorDecember 21, 2009 at 10:56 pm in reply to: Xmas Pole jam and the weather devil….Fleur, Azriel, Glitter, Kari828, and myself all made it just fine! I really had no trouble with driving in the snow, the stressful part was a crappy drivers side windshield wiper. lol We were all so thankful that Sissybuns and her family were willing to let us jam at her house. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif Thank you, thank you. Sissy https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif Saschapoles had plans to fly in but her fight was canceled https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif Most of the locals were unable to make it. Fleur, Azriel and myself were all pretty tired from our long drive in the snow the night before but I think we all had a great time meeting up with everyone at Sissy’s.
I wanna thank Tina, the owner of http://chicphysiquefitness.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for suggesting Fleur rent a 4×4 truck….without that we wouldn’t have been able to get together. She was also willing to open up her studio doors for the pole jam, but unfortunately we were all staying a bit too far away to take advantage of her offer. AND….she was amazing enough to drive me to the airport (not as simple of a task as it sounds but that’s another story!) hehe.
I just had such a great time!!!!!!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_santa.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rendeer.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_santa.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rendeer.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_santa.gif

For those with lessons http://ver3.studioveena.com/lessons/view/2292 this is a good one for working on inverting.
-
This is very common when a dancer inverts without proper technique or without the appropriate strength. It can even be cause by overuse so even a seasoned pole dancer can have this pop up….You may have an Intercostal muscle strain. Rest…. and be sure your technique is correct and don’t for get to stretch after your work out. I hope you feel better soon https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_santa.gif

Yes, cold weather and dry air makes for poor grip. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_santa.gif
-
Thats a good point jayjay….it is the holiday season too, it can really wipe a person out. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif
-
If things that were easy for you like your invert, as you said… start becoming difficult as in physically hard, then you should listen to your body and take some time off. You don’t have to stop all together. I’m not sure how often your dancing but even athlete take breaks and come back refreshed. Rest can sometimes be the best thing. Watch videos over and over of others doing the moves your working on and take time to visualize yourself doing these. Visualizing can be very beneficial. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

I’ve heard you can use windex. I use it on my chrome xpole and haven’t had any issues it is also a bit sticky after wiping it down so it helps me grip it better. However I didn’t know about wiping down the joints so ill do that tonight.
They use to say windex was fine but now they tell you not to use it. Some say it causes a build up, I still use it though, and its what they were using when I met X pole at a fitness convention, so I don’t know. When in doubt use Good ol Alcohol https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif
