I’m sorry your having to deal with haters Mini https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif I get a lot of rude emails and comments too. It seems to come in spurts. If its a video I know some may have a problem with I change the setting to comments for friends only…the problem with that is you still have to see all comments to approve them, which is still hurtful. YT is just annoying, either my music is taken away or some loser flags me or I have rude comments. I had my "Carol of the Bell" video removed for "inappropriate" content….please https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif I have a new hooping vid I wanna post but I’m not sure if I’ll YT it or not, because I my belly skin folds up and hangs over, I’m sure some idiot will have a hay day with that.

Your a beautiful dancer and person Mini try not to let stupid people bring you down. Don’t even bother responding to them because they are NOT worth your time!!! Your fab! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

Very classy and well stated Veena! I totally agree…BTW..what is a YT Flag? You say someone flagged you?

If you are flagged (its just a button they push) then you must be over 18 to view the video, it blocks the vid from minors. Some moron went on a flagging spree last year on my old channel. The video I just had removed was NOT DUE to music and there was NOTHING remotely inappropriate about it I have NO clue why it was removed…it was this video that YT took down.

YT is an easy way for someone to target you and stay anonymous, I also had a lady sending me emails on YT when I was pregnant telling me I was no better than a drug user, because I was dancing while pregnant. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif She created 3 accounts just to email me, because I would block her each time. Some people are nuts-o!!

If your gonna be on YT you better have thick skin I guess. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumbdown.gif

Empy…I think you might not understand how I approach using your foot in the Scorpio, its really done more by turning the hips so the hips are open, (this makes a big difference) keeping the pole along the leg, and pointing the toes, angling the ankle just enough to catch the toes, and lightly flexing the toes against the pole.

If someone is doing a Scorpio the way I teach, then your also learning the method of opening up the hips which will extend the move causing your leg line to become longer along the pole. This allows you to use the foot without over extending the ankle (I should say I don’t teach them to wrap the ankle in the lessons)….when done properly the position/strain on your ankle/foot, should feel no different than wrapping your foot around the pole for a climb. I could see where it could cause a problem if you were to hold your hips square with your leg really bent and then attempted to use your foot, but trust me, dropping your outside hip makes all the difference. Plus, your not holding all or even most of your body weight with your foot, its just the tiniest bit of pressure if any, its not like twisting your arm for the Twisted grip handspring, where the poor joint carries all the weight.

A persons anatomy will determine weather they can perform the Scorpio with the foot or not, if someone is bowlegged then this method would be a bad idea also if you have longer thin legs it will be easier than if you have short thick legs also pole size is a factor to as I said before. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

I couldn’t see how/where to make comments on your vid so I’ll post mine here:

You shouldn’t need to compensate your grip on the pole by wrapping your ankle if you hold the position correctly. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif

To comment on a video, all you do is click on the big comment button. Then click on + add comment.

I wouldn’t consider hooking the foot onto the pole hyper extending, the position most dancers use when they hook the foot is more of an ability to point the toes than roll your ankle (if you understand how to do it) …. simply adding your toes into the equation isn’t hyper extending. It really depends on the size of your pole too, its much easier to add the toes on a smaller diameter pole. I would say if hooking the foot began to bother your knee (because it will slightly change the leg position) then you should stop. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

I would really suggest working on strength work, pole holds and climbs. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rambo.gif Spins done on a static pole (especially spins done with lots of momentum) really require you to have a good amount of strength to prevent injury. I don’t feel that most spins (especially one armed) should even be attempted until the dancer is strong enough to do one pole climb. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

All poles, even permanent ones need to be placed directly under the joist. As long as you have a flat spot, joist/stud and don’t over tighten if its an X pole you’ll be fine. If you have an X pole and need help setting it up you can check out the video I made.

The pole HAS TO BE ON A JOIST. If the fixture is in your way you could take it down and put a cap on it. The electrical cap/covers are really cheap…they just cover up the hole for you. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif Having a lighting fixture or anything for that matter, too close to your pole is not safe and you will hit it at some point. Hope you find a good spot. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumright.gif

Yes here is an example of the regular handspring and cartwheel. The twisted grip handspring is actually closer to the cartwheel move then the handspring.

36 sec is the set up for the Handspring…I flip up into a butterfly from it though.. Handspring your tipping back
1:28 is the set up for the Cartwheel….I move into a jackknife from it….Cartwheel your coming forward, head down first.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fp8Twwf7r4Y This is a really OLD VID!

You should be able to see the difference I think. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cyclops_ani.gif

If you have the 50 I would go with the 45mm then you can work with both. I have both sizes and I REALLY love the smaller 45mm but try to keep up with using the 50 so I maintain my grip strength. They both have advantages and disadvantages, like NickiLee88 said. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
