If your getting into the superman via the Gemini, then moving into a split grip position with the arms, pole resting on your lower thigh, you will be able to play with the positioning of the arms before you flip over into the final position. So glad this question came up again. I am working on this move also. The pain is in my upper back bewteen my shoulder blades. I think it may have to do with my grip as well. I’m gonna try these suggestions. Question though what is the tuck invert??
Its in the lessons. Its a good way to work on your inverted V with out opening the legs into a full V. Its also helpful for working on rolling into the inverts instead of using momentum. The tuck invert is basically done in the same manner as an inverted V but in the tuck position…knees to chest. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

The veena grip is similar to the flip grip Red is showing. But your top arm isn’t bent in the Veena….its straight. The beginning half of the SM will feel a bit more difficult but one your at the top it give you great control of the move https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

https://www.studioveena.com/StudioVeena" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;You do not switch the hand during mid move….I have, and you could, but thats not the point of the grip….. your low arm will be on the same side as shoulder that is resting on the pole, that elbow points forward, and is just above the head, in a cup grip. The top arm is fully extended and knuckles are facing forward, (your not using a cup) its like a Chinese forward grip but with the arm fully extended. This gives you a lot of control at the top of the shoulder mount, so its great for super inverts….Jenyne called it the Flip grip, but when I first came up with the hold, Fleur and I had never seen it so we just called it the Veena grip. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/alien.gif

Now see poledanceromance, you just gave the perfect example of something that isn’t said enough. Everyone need to work within there bodies abilities do what is most comfortable. If a move is painful don’t do it. A good example is when you talked about your elbow and the Veena grip. In ANY exercise or sport your far less likely to have an injury if you work within your Range of motion, everyone is different. I also first learned the SM with the cup grip so your not a weirdo. If both hands are low by the head and locked together you don’t have the same leverage as a grip where the hands are farther apart…. I don’t think anyone was trying to say verticaltherapy was wrong https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/alien.gif ……because there will always a number of thoughts out there as far as technique goes, some might like that grip. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumright.gif I was simply saying I personally feel, its not the safest way to learn to SM, because if your hands are close and fingers locked together your not going have the leverage you need, and you can’t let go as fast if you need to.

Hands close together (which is the only way locking the fingers can be done) shouldermount grip that is the least stable and one of the most dangerous. The farther way the hands are from each other the more stable and secure the grip becomes. Also, if you fingers are interlaced and you slip, then there is no way to catch yourself. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif
