I use steam on every new pole a few times before using it. Then I used steam every few days or weeks depending on how much dancing I’ve done. I did use it every time before I poled when I lived in the Midwest. Mostly because it worked well to warm the pole. I have grip issues when it’s cold out 🙂

It takes a bit more abdominal strength at the beginning of the move, but it's nice and secure at the top! I came up with the variation one day when Amber (fleur) was over at my place, we didn't know what to call it soooo. There ya go.

Yep, put it on steam and when the pole is slightly wet wipe if down right away, you don't need to let it sit or anything. Don't wipe it until you've moved the iron away though so you don't get a steam burn! Also I agree with luvlee, I also use lotion everyday. I use the store brand Lubriderm, but I don't use it right before. Let me know how it all works out!

I'm glad the grip worked so well for you!

Good chance its the weather. You could also try steam cleaning the pole with a fabric steamer or iron set to steam. It's the worst feeling ever when your grip is non existent, I had major grip issues when I performed on Friday!! I couldn't get my body warmed up and the room and pole were just too cold. I had to bail out of 2 moves that I can easily do. So anyway try steam cleaning the pole then go from there. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

I think sometimes we forget that you don't HAVE to pole every day (beginners should not pole everyday!!) and we don't even HAVE to pole every week! Most of us who pole dance have lives! This means we have obligations, kids, school, holidays, sickness. This is life, it happens.
It's hard not to feel frustrated, but getting upset or stressing about it doesn't benefit you in anyway. For the past 8 months I've mostly been off the pole. I've recorded the most of the times I did dance, so no one would think I was dead lol. I've been off due to injury, (mystery injury not sure what I ever did) lack of time, and just wanting to do something like hooping, hiking swimming instead. Anyway, I sometimes feel we think we HAVE to bust out every new move that comes along or else we are not cool enough, or people wont think we are a "serious" or "good" pole dancer. The reality is, most of us are not professionals, and thats ok! Pros literally dedicate their life to something, it is usually their main job. Pole dance is my "job", and I still don't always make time to consistently pole. My job, requires me to be on the computer more than on the pole! Being on the pole can't be my life right now, I have kids and work to think about too. I also now really enjoy hooping and hiking. And its ok. I'm one of those people who LOVES to train, and at some point I'll make pole dancing for myself a priority , but it's not meant to be right now.
My advice….. enjoy pole dance when you can. If you are using it as your only form of exercise then make it a priority 3 times a week. For health benefits, poling 3 times a week for about 30 mins to 1-2 hr. is great. You have to MAKE time for your workouts regardless of what they are.
Maybe sit down and think about why you pole? If it's because you love it and it makes you feel good, then don't stress about time off. I went through a phase where I felt pressured to pole so I wouldn't "fall behind" I had a "name" to live up to, and people watching everything I did…..now I pole if I feel like it and because it makes ME happy.
If we really want to make pole a priority, then we have to make time, not hope to fit it in. Here are some time suckers: FaceBook, TV, video games, spend time online shopping or searching, sleeping in. If you want to spend time online, try poling in the chat room here. Kill 2 birds with one stone lol

Even for those in shape pole can be very stressful on the body and its so easy to get carried away with learning. It's just so fun!!! I always suggest pole dancing every other day when starting, this can help prevent overuse injury.
If you are interested I have many exercises in the lessons here that will strengthen and condition every part of your body for pole. Also the lessons here are placed in an order that enables you to build strength first, allowing for safer and faster progress. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
Avoid working on inverts until you're feeling better and have done some conditioning for the back and shoulders.

I have had my TG pole for a few years now and the finish is still great….but I did notices that the finish changes in a few spots from gold to silver when I friend of mine danced on my pole and used grip aid. I have the older style top loading pole so this may not even be an issue anymore. I LOVE my TG its my fav finsih! I do not use grip aids.

The titanium gold is my favorite finish of them all. I have had mine for a few years now and its my most heavily used pole, the finish has not worn off. BUT, I think the finish wearing off is a body/skin chemistry and possibly grip aid use issue. I had someone over and they used my pole, the finish where they did most of their pole work was lighter after they used it. They used itac. I have also tested out itac and found it seemed to change the color of the pole. I do not normally use any grip aids, so other than those 2 situations my pole is fine and still super grippy!

Rest and ice I would think is your best bet as mentioned before. Give that shoulder some time to calm down before sm again. Feel better soon!

Hi welcome to the site! To have the best grip, make sure you are nice and warmed up, also if you dance in a cold room make sure the pole has been warmed too. Also be sure to squeeze using the muscles too and not just the skin 😉

I have the xpole brass, I can only use it when the weather and body is really hot. Titanium gold is the best all sound pole for me too. Keep in mind xpole stated here that they have a new formula for the brass poles now. Lyme, PS brass is different than cooked old brass, not sure about the new brass.

Do you have an iron though?? You don't need a clothes/fabric steamer and you really don't need a steam cleaner! others have used just an iron on steam. X pole had told me they were in the process of making a video explaining how to clean the brass pole. I don't think its up yet though.

Did you try steam cleaning it?
