Do you have a pic or vid of you trying to perform this move?? Geminis and Scorpios can be tricky….sometimes its the position that needs adjustment, sometimes you need more flexibility in your hips. In my online lessons I teach where your "point of contact" should be on the pole…it should be your Armpit, side of torso, inner thigh, outside of lower leg. Remember to press into the pole with these points of contact, do only rely on your skin only. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif This is not my favorite method but, some find it easier to gemini first then while still holding the pole with your hand, switch to scorpio, if your going to try that technique be sure your gemini is strong and your holding on tight with your hands while you switch.

AdministratorFebruary 3, 2010 at 4:30 pm in reply to: What’s the Secret to the Cross Ankle Release?Your not pressing your hips up…..you do however, want to tip the legs up (hip will go down towards the pole toes go up) so inner thighs rest all along the pole BEFORE you try to lower your body down….keep the knees turned in. Also since you say you can do an advanced plank, if you have the flexibility go ahead a reach behind you then tip the leg up and walk yourself down into the position. Be sure your engaging your abs!! The point of contact between your legs will not feel the same as the it does in the planks. If your taking my online lessons reviewing the P.O.C points of contact might be helpful for ya https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

I do not teach or consider most spins as beginner moves….unless you have been strength training or performing some other previous form of exercise that built up your muscles….otherwise, you need to build up strength BEFORE you begin to work on static spins. All of my online lessons are in an order that works for most people to progress safely and fast. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

Jayjay…if you are taking the online lessons you’ll hear me say right away that your NOT resting on your head, so you may wanna go back and watch if your referring to that lesson. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

No its not a headstand…..the variation I teach is more yoga base, not gymnastics. The head is LIGHTLY touching the floor but your NOT placing pressure on your head, it all on your arms. Head up would be an advanced variation.
Jayjay…you don’t want the pressure on your head, remember you need to engage your shoulders (keep your shoulders away from your ears) and press into the floor with your hands and forearms, this will get you into the correct position for lifting back up onto the pole…..check yourself in a mirror or take a vid or pic so you can see if your in the proper position.

Hello…and welcome!! If your new to pole dance I recommend the Chrome 45mm X pole, unless you plan on only using spin mode only…..then I would get the more grippy Titanium Gold, I feel TG is too grippy for static spins which is what most beginner/intermediates like to work on. I have both finishes and love them both I like my TG for tricks and Chrome for spins. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Thank you for this post….I have to agree, as women really do tend to ignore our own needs and even health, to make others in our life happy and healthy. Its not selfish to take care of yourself, eat well, exercise, get your sleep, take time to play with your kids. And if the neighbors come over unannounced and the house isn’t clean…..SO WHAT! Life short.
One thing I’m gonna add…..We all need balance in our lives, but that doesn’t mean EQUAL time for everything at all times, thats not possible!! See…. "balance" both in LIFE and the PHYSICAL act of balance, require slight and constant changes. You can not physically balance by standing perfectly still!! You must make small adjustments…..Sometimes you need to move left, to physically balance….. sometimes your kids need you more than your business needs you, for lifestyle balance…..being aware of the flow of change will help you both in your life’s balance and your physical balance on the pole! Cool huh? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif
Mindy- I’m so sorry to hear about your mother. Sending your mother-in-law, healing vibs!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif Thank you again for this post!

Were looking to do the pole jam in MN thats were we’ll be staying for that weekend. However we’ll be flying into Fargo and flying out of there as well! Its a good mid point of us between friends and family, but we wont really be spending any time there. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif You Litlbit and I HAVE to meet up though!!!

Its pretty simple for me….For self expression. I get the added bonus of getting in killer shape, but I love it and fell in love with it because of how I could express the music through the use of the pole. I know it sounds kinds lame, but oh well. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif

Ahhh hah! I knew someone else on the site had done hot yoga! If I still lived in MN and did hot yoga I would never leave the class LOL https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

I do not like this move…….. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_twisted.gif This move aggravated a non pole related injury for me personally and I have heard of and gotten emails from other dancers who have injured themselves because of this move. Soooo should anyone chose to try this TG mount, I feel it should be done from an invert and NOT by kicking up into the mount. Its a really unnatural position for the top arm to begin with, and adding the force of a kick and the jerking on the limbs that can result, means you can VERY easily injure yourself. If you have troubles at all with your wrist, elbows or shoulders DON’T try this move!
The twisted grip takes more abdominal strength and will feel more stable than a regular grip for the cartwheel mount and some other grips, because your not relying on arm strength as Chem said, but your "pulling/hanging" from a larger muscle group, the shoulder/upper back/teres major & minor ect.. and using a straight arm to push away from the bottom. The bottom arm can cause pain and trouble too if you tend to be hyperflexible at the elbow.
I know a good number of pole moves are far from ergonomically correct so this is my thought on the TG…. If someone has the strength and flexibility to perform this safely then that’s fine for them, but I don’t think this is a move that everyone should be doing. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif
