AdministratorMarch 21, 2011 at 7:29 pm in reply to: Aysha…split grip vs. forearm grip vs. elbow grip@ Shellectra your not weird at all! If your doing the elbow grip right you will feel nice and secure as you move away from the pole. As a taller dancer, you have to move very far away to get that secure feeling so this I think is why some dislike it at first. The split grip is very difficult and you shouldn't expect to go right from the elbow/forearm to suddenly learning the Split grip. Give your self some time https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

The technique is slightly different for all of these grips when doing an "aysha" or what I call a "straight edge V". From what I have noticed, taller dancers tend to feel more secure in the forearm grip, you don't have to lean out and away from the pole like you do in the elbow grip variation.
The order I teach it in forerm or elbow (which ever is comfy) then Split grip.

That's good to hear Amaranth! You may find that just doing a week or 2 of the scapula exercises will help. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

Sounds like the upper back/shoulders may not be strong enough yet. If that is the case I would hold off on inverts until they can be done with total control. Go back and work on these lessons to build up your strength.

Never ever compare your progress to someone else. There will always be someone "better". I also know its so hard not to do! I have done this many times and it ALWAYS ends up making me really depressed. Some ppl will find physical things like pole dance or step aerobics class easier than others. We all have different strengths. I totally SUCK at math and it takes me forever to learn something book wise. My memory is awful. Not everyone will be a pole trickster, not everyone will be extremely flexible.
Do something because YOU love it and it makes you feel good. If you can't get away from comparing yourself maybe a home pole would be a good idea for awhile. It would give you a chance to focus on just you. I suggest recording, taking pic or writing down your practices so you can look back and see that you really have improved. It can be hard to notice improvements unless we track them. The only one you need to worry about "out doing" is you. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif Now lets see if I can take my own advice. LOL

Thanks Keex! We had samples on the old site but things got a bit misplaced when we switched over! I'm very proud of the lessons and looking forward to adding more! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Studio lessons are great! Having a home pole in addition is even better. If your looking for lessons to use at home this is a sample of my lessons here. https://www.studioveena.com/user_registrations/example_view/4cd0054b-9630-42dd-9748-057f0ac37250 Also you can leave me a comment on any lesson and I will get back to you and help you out! Lessons have routines for each level, a warm up, strength, stretching, transitions and floorwork.

My personal "studioveena" definition of a Pole Jam: The gathering of pole dancers all levels. Sharing, and learn from each other. Its not structured and not performance based, just fun. Usually free or very low cost. Friends, fun and music! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

I show two variations in this lesson https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/f7c4b070-b91e-11df-856f-001b214581be One from Scorpio and one from Half Jade.

I have struggled with this myself! I don't have much to add….Great advice everyone! I do however have a dance for this (I know, I know, I always have a dance lol) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif This should be every woman's theme song.

Welcome! I"m so happy your arm is doing well! xoxo

Getting certified as a group fitness instructor or personal trainer is the first step in getting ready to teach pole. If you pole, chances are you know "how" to do the moves, now you need to understand the body. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Yes, if you over tighten the x pole your spin mode will be slow. Everyone comments on how smooth and fast my x pole is, so it does have a lot to do with installation. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif
-
My pole is over 13 feet tall and its a 45mm x pole. Using their permanent mount allows you do add more height to your x pole.
@ Chem I was told that the Bespun poles are not X pole brand.
-
I personally love the dance "expression" on the floor as floorwork and also as transitions. BUT now that I can only dance with one foot, I have decided to challenge myself to try and "dance" or express myself while ON the pole. I now have the height on my pole for it so I'm hoping to accomplish that. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Oh it looks so great! Congrats.

AdministratorMarch 13, 2011 at 7:38 pm in reply to: Help! Just got my new X-pole & my fat-ass can’t use it!Don't feel bad at all! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
1 you should have a little hex key with your pole, this fits into small screws at the base of the pole, make sure the screws are not missing. Also are you sure its on spin? Did you maybe not tighten the adjuster rod enough?
2 In the veena method, I don't consider most spins as simple or as beginner moves. They are something you will need to work up too. So don't feel bad. When you do sign up for the lessons I start you off with strength moves that you work on first, and also we work on transitions, and floorwork building up strength as you work towards spins.
It does get better https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

I just saw the kid post too….I use to worry this too. What other kids/parents may say and my kids being made fun of or outcast. I now feel I'll deal with it when and IF it ever comes up. It's not worth worring about, it may never even be an issue.

Sex is normal…. its human…. America is obsessed with it, but yet we also are told to treat it like its dirty! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif
I feel that we need to keep talking about sex, along with our stripper shoes and booty shorts., as part of a normal thing we humans do and ENJOY. I don't hide my shoes from my boys, they see my feather boas too https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif I plan on being honest about things of a sexual nature as they grow. I have been so far. My mom doesn't care for my sexy self expression on the pole but that is understandable. She doesn't have to watch a video of me dancing that way if she dislikes it. I want other women to feel ok with expressing their sexy self too!!!!
With all that being said…I totally understand why you might feel we need to "unsexify" what we do but. I don't think that is helping anyone in the long run. I grew up in a conservative home where cleavage and any thing slightly sexy was never talked about. I learned about sex from church and Christian books….that was not good. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif I pretty much felt like a dirty whore for enjoying feeling sexy and expressing sexy when I was first married. Cuz hey I was always told "sex is only for making babies other than that you should passionate love" blahh I just wasn't that kind of girl. LOL
Buttercup….I don't know what your situation with your husband is but, like Cinara said. If it would help YOU personally and keep your family as one, then go ahead and "spin" pole as a sport or exercise only. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif BUT you also need to be true to yourself! If YOU enjoy the sexy side of pole then be careful that your not disregarding part of who you are to please others.
I find sensual dancing so beautiful in all women, we are so powerful!

Of course it's ok to post this….we talk about everything here. LOL
I have used the NuvaRing before. It was one of the only BC that didn't make me crazy emotional or sick. I stopped using it only because it didn't stay in place for me well. I had used it after having my first 2 boys, so that was probably why. I think a lot of other BC options can cause weight gain too…but I can't remember for sure. So my experience with it was pretty good. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif
