Hi there, Polariz5. You must be over 18 to use the site. However, I feel pole dance is for everyone regardless of age. You should speak with your mom and dad have one of them sign up as a member, if they approve, then you can use you're mom or dads "account" to watch the lessons. It is difficult to find a studio who will teach anyone under 18. It's important to learn proper technique so you don't end up with a life long injury.

Here are 4 lessons that will help with the Inverted V

    Knee Tuck https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4daedec5-5fd4-4b3f-9f5e-31130ac37250

    Tuck Invert https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4cbc4b23-b534-4d1a-9978-3b990ac37250

    V Invert https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4cc828d1-78d8-419f-b83b-1c610ac37250

    Aerial Invert https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4f69dbcd-582c-4f2b-87e8-2c070ac37250

The aerial invert is advanced but I include prep work that will help with all inverts!

Also, no you're not gripping with the arm pit when holding the invert.

I do a lot of conditioning work (like the ones listed in the lessons), along with yoga, flexibility training and hooping. I'll hit the gym if I'm planing on working towards some strength based moves like the Iron x and stalls.

April 4, 2012 at 10:41 am in reply to: I have not exercised or touched my pole in 3 months

As a mom I've had long periods of time where I don't get to Pole.

If you're at beginner to intermediate level (not inverting consistently with ease) To prevent injury, always start back up with strength building pole work AND pole conditioning, for the first week or two. Do this at least 3 times a week…. Then work your way back up to spins and inverts. The less often you get on your pole in a week the longer you should continue with conditioning and strength before moving on. However this doesn't mean you should pole every day! 3 times a week with a day of rest in between sessions is great if you want to improve.

For myself as an advanced dancer, I find 2-3 weeks off the pole doesn't affect much. If I have to take more than a month off with no other exercise I still start off with strength and conditioning. Jumping back into pole too fast can often result in injury.

That’s what we did for my ps stage when the pins didn’t fit, worked in a pinch.

I wouldn’t over tighten any pole. You can go to the hardware store and buy some “pins” to keep the pole in place. The store pins didn’t fit tight but kept the pole from spinning!

Oh just to be clear, it’s not so much the word challenge but putting the month yr and word challenge in a title that confuses people 🙂 its not really a big deal though!

Neither position is right or wrong. It’s just preferace and will vary depending on if you’re dealing with dance, gymnastics ect. When training for the splits aim for squared hips to get the most out of the stretch.

Lyme, the true grip isn't used for the Basic invert, that would be much like inverting with one arm! It's used for decending from off the pole, spinning while inverted… like in the spinning V/chopper…or to hold a static V.

I can't remember if you're taking the lessons Rixi, but here is the Getting started for Stretching. It will tell you how often and help you create a stretching routine. It covers the difference between stretching and flexibility training as well.  https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4dd66731-eab0-4b4a-aa13-41ad0ac37250

March 28, 2012 at 8:36 pm in reply to: Climbing a 45mm Pole

A smaller diameter pole can be a bit more challenging to climb.  Also at home, a common issue dancers have is lack of warm up. Without a proper warm up you'll find things like climbs, pole sits most leg moves very difficult. The environmental conditions may be different in home as well affecting the grip. In addition, check your climbing technique, there may just be a few tweaks that need to be made to make climbing better.

    My tips:

    Are you warmed up?

is the pole along the front of the ankle, inside of the knee's?

is the scapula engaged and arms at a good climbing height (not too high not too low)?

Are you pushing down and into the pole with the climbing leg?

Here's the basic climb lesson if you're interested. https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/233115a0-b889-11df-856f-001b214581be

March 28, 2012 at 8:19 am in reply to: tips for working with a student with hearing impairment

My dad is hearing impaired, has been my whole life. DedeJoy has wonderful suggestions.

I'll add……Don't worry about making the student feel bad by turning the music down to describe moves, because…… I bet everyone would understand a bit better without blasting music.

Don't forget to speak slowly, not crazy slow but don't rush or mumble. When I talk with my dad I have to keep my voice strong but not shouting either.

Facing the person is a big one. If I don't face him he wont understand at all. I use a lot of facial expressions and gestures, to get my point across.

After class you could privately ask the student if there is anything else that would make their class time better.https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

How long have you been pole dancing and training 3 days a week on pole with strength training? Are you taking your rest days and staying off the pole? Have you tried not using any grip aids, not everyone needs them and they could cause blisters. Are you also saying you do strength training and cardio on your non pole days?

You've come to the right place! The lessons here are designed to teach the beginner who has never touched a pole, to more advanced students. Everything is placed in order so you progress by building strength first. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
