Sandy, thank you so much for the mention, I really appreciate that. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif
Depending on the brand sometimes the taller heels are easier to walk in then the really short ones. Look for shoes with a nice wide front and a thicker heel. The shoes with the small spiky like heels are not the easiest to use. Dancing, and entering into pole moves on the balls of your feet is a great way to condition for wearing heels. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

An iron set to steam!! I didn’t even think if that! Great idea 🙂

Welcome to the site!! We have a lot of moms on here. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Nicolb…a clothes steamer will clean the pole very well and remove any residue from manufacturing. One thing that a lot of dancers forget is to warm up properly before they pole at home. This is one reason why they feel the home pole isn't as grippy as in studio. Never apply lotion right before poling!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

You have a great resource for stretching right here! In the lessons I use a foam roller, yoga mat, yoga block and sometimes a yoga strap. There are individual lessons that teach you proper form and also 3 routines, 2 for splits and 1 for your back!
This "Getting Started Stretching" lesson will tell you everything you need to know about stretching, including what you might need.

AdministratorApril 17, 2012 at 5:06 pm in reply to: Shoulder Mount Grips! Which one for what move…?No, JelliCrew, that's not the princess grip you've been doing…your hand is not gripping the pole from behind, but rather from the front. The princess grip your hand is behind like in the video….this grip can be nice to use too, but not everyone has the shoulder range of motion for it. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Thank you so much everyone, I'm very happy you like them! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Yes, at least that was the case with the brand I bought. Mine is "firm", and a bit larger in diameter than a normal roller. They also make very small, really hard ones in gray. Purple just happened to be the firmness I wanted. I found mine in a sporting goods shop in Bismarck and ordered it off Amazon. It has long ridges instead of bumps. http://www.amazon.com/Thera-Roll-Textured-Therapy-Roller-GREYHARD3X8PURPLEFIRM3X8/dp/B003XX5AF6/ref=sr_1_2?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1334632436&sr=1-2

I have a purple rumble roller and love it. Yeah, not great for new users. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif

AdministratorApril 16, 2012 at 5:10 pm in reply to: Shoulder Mount Grips! Which one for what move…?To clarify….Princess grip the shoulder you mount on has the arm behind and fully extended, but not twisted…at least that is what I know of the Princess grip. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

AdministratorApril 16, 2012 at 5:03 pm in reply to: Shoulder Mount Grips! Which one for what move…?The Prince's isn't the Veena grip at least that's not what it was a few yrs ago!! The hand is behind like the cup grip, but extended. You can't get into the super invert with out your shoulder…but rather you HOLD it. Here's a link……At 1:12 You'll see I'm not using my shoulder at all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DV9hkblfy3E

This is an all around good roller and it's the one I use in the lessons, it's on Amazon! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MVHOQA/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=giggecom-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B000MVHOQA

AdministratorApril 16, 2012 at 4:46 pm in reply to: Shoulder Mount Grips! Which one for what move…?Both the Cup and Veena grip are very secure when done properly. I use both, all the time, and as mentioned, the Cup grip tends to work best for the dismount and the Veena for flips, but they're not the only options. You'll see in my videos on spin mode, I'll use the Veena grip the most because I can super invert with ease and security…I can even hold myself without having my shoulder or collarbone touching only my hands. It's a fun feeling! lol
I do not suggest using the twisted grip. There's useally several ways to do pole moves and several grips that can be used. It's about finding what works for your body. I only teach and use the Veena and cup grip because these are the 2 most suitable for all, not because they're the only grips out there. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
