I think you might be thinking of Tarakarina's videos. She use to pole in a garage and had a rug down. I've never had my pole in a garage. I would think putting a big rug down would be more comfortable than dancing on the concrete, so you could try that. Also check out this thread about making a pole dance floor!

Yeah, I steam my new poles right out of the box. I've done it both ways, in pieces or put together, I steam it several times when the pole is new. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Using a foam roller can work nicely in place of a machine…..my guess its it's cheaper too, and of course you can use it for other things as well!
I demonstrate how in this routine, I think it's near the end around min 19. https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4e2d837d-6f9c-46f6-93df-22110ac37250

AdministratorMay 6, 2012 at 9:31 pm in reply to: Going from a 50mm to a 45mm pole. Does this impede progress?Switching from one size to another, will not hurt your progress, it can only improve your technique as a poler!
Many of the larger competition will have 45mm poles, they may also have one 45 and one 50. The smaller competitions held in studios will of course vary depending on the studio. Many older studios have 50mm poles. The 45mm is becoming the "standard" pole. If you have access to 50's and 45's that's great!!

hmmm, no prob Amy, I just looked at the link and I would still call that a Twisted ballerina. In my mind you would be grabbing the foot/leg with BOTH hands for it to be an Adv Ballerina AKA Eagle (Beillman). I call holding with only one hand a Ballerina or Twisted Ballerina only because adding that 2nd hand overhead isn't easy!!! Again, this is just my definition for the purpose of the lessons. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Oh, those things happen. Don't worry too much about it!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

Haha, yes Amy, thanks for the link, I’ve have seen that and of course there are many varations for both ballerinas as well. I’m not saying its not possible….my responce is in reference to the terms, lessons and photos I use for the site. 😉

It’s done from the ballerina, not twisted 🙂

Here is the Twisted Ballerina 🙂 https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4fa29778-6ce0-4814-9df4-0e9c0ac37250

Great suggestion JeHanne!! If it's just pressure from the knee pressing into the floor you could also use a folded towel or blanket under the knee. Or you can use a yoga block to help hold yourself…. Like in this lesson https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4dfb5178-ba64-438e-8bf4-5f360ac37250

lol, no worries. I'm really bad with writing out what I mean to say. I'd rather just make a video!!

Yes, half jade or what I call half hip hold, the inside leg is tucked not overhead, the outside leg is extended, like the Split hip hold/jade….new lesson for this will be posted soon!! I think I would call polergirls variation an allegra or jade variation depending on hand placement. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Here is the Lesson for the Ballerina…Keep in mind this is not the twisted variation. I'll post that tomorrow https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

It shouldn't be painful, but you may have to back off of the stretch a bit, if your going from not squared hips to squared. You will feel a more intense stretch with squared hips! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

I will say, sometimes it hurts a bit if they catch my on a bad day. But, I've learned I don't want to waste my time responding to hateful people. I have better things….positive things, to put my time and energy towards. Like helping others. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I know, there are several vids that recived nasty comments about me on a weekly basis. It’s ok, you learn to ignore it. I go through every now and then, to remove or block comments and people. It’s all good, they’re just unhappy people. 😉 thanks for your concern!!! Xoxo

Haven't decided yet. Any ideas?

Usually yes, the more flexible hamstring should be the leg you pull towards your face. But…always try both side, you never know. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

There are 3 ballerina's….The Ballerina, the Twisted Ballerina and a Ballerina spin. I'll be uploading these lessons very soon, possibly this week. Please be careful with your shoulders. I'll have a Flexibility readiness test in the lessons for everyone. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
Ballerina (keep in mind this one is advanced because the leg is pull so far up) https://www.studioveena.com/galleries/view/4f883620-04d0-4c6d-82be-250c0ac37250
Twisted Ballerina https://www.studioveena.com/galleries/view/4f883532-08cc-44e8-8873-285c0ac37250
