We have many amazing, strong, ladies here that are over 5' 7". I'm 5'8". It does mean you may have to focus on building more strength in order to do some of the moves. But you'll have amazing lines. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

I think bringing the arm lower might be a problem area for some…..
Here's worked for me. From a straight edge….in order to bring the gripping arm into a lower position, try pushing out into a Eros (i keep the free leg over head). This will allow you to maneuver the gripping arm. Otherwise you feel stuck in forearm grip! You are not gripping with the forearm, like a straight edge. The pole is by the chest and armpit! Keep in mind that we all have different limb lengths to play around with a placement that works for you.

Try using a fabric steamer when you first take the pole out of the package or when it gets really dirty! Works wonders. I use alcohol while I practice. The steamer does an amazing job though, try it if you have grip issues!!!

It does get better as you become stronger. Also, some pole finishes work better with certain skin type and climates. Another thing to try….Some polers find they stick better with a very clean pole, others like to have a little build up on it. The first thing to check is…have you warmed up properly? Very few poles will be grippy if you have not properly warmed your body and the pole. This is very important for injury prevention as well. Cold pole, and cold body = no grip. I have a warm up in the lessons designed for warming your body and pole if your interested.
If you have sweaty hands try "dry hands" or gloves. Itac can be nice for Points of Contact, but will get greasy for many polers if you put it on hands. If you can dance without grip aids it's nice, because you don't goop up the pole. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

It's common to have points of contact become bruised and tender when first learning. Make sure you are not poling everyday, this will rest your muscles and your bumps and bruises.

Don't worry too much. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif I had 2, and 2 1/2ishs fingers separation with my first 2 babies, then almost 4 fingers with my 3rd baby, (he was a big boy!) I didn't know about pole at that time, so it was not pole related. I had a good 3 fingers separation with my last. Sometimes it does happened because of what we've done, but often it just happens! Don't stress. Your abs are not ruined forever.
There are exercises you can do after the baby comes to "close the gap"!!!! It's work for me, and my abs are FINE! xoxo

Yep Chem, unless your using a forearm grip. This is how I personally like to see these moves executed. ……In forearm grip V legs, the body still is beside the pole….only with elbow grip should you face the pole and with Split grip when moving into it from off the pole.
From Cartwheel, you'll be beside the pole in split grip, this should be the goal anyway, You can do it from off the pole and hold to the side, it's just harder!! It's not unusual to be able to cartwheel into this and not do it from off the pole.

I think dancing in releve "balls of the feet" is something I think we all should work on. It creates a much pretty line when walking around the pole, if your not wearing heels. It's also good practice for your inverts, if you're up on the toes you can't kick! You shouldn't need the heel for hardly any pole work. I've danced with an injured foot before. If you cut the foot I would be careful though, because the increased bloodflow could cause it to bleed. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I thinks it’s a great question!
For me, Freestyle means “without a plan”. I don’t have any particular moves in mind and I let the music carry me away. This is my favorite way to dance, I feel, well, “free” and happy! This may not be everyone’s definition for freestyle though!
Loosely choreographed would be having particular combos, spins and moves in mind. the “in between” is not planned, nor is the order. This is what I have done for any of my videos where I don’t say freestyle.

The switch and the torso twist in the conditioning section are great for this! Also you may need the kick due to lack of hamstring flexiblity.
