AdministratorMarch 3, 2013 at 4:43 pm in reply to: Perfecting Basic Invert/ Home study questionsYes, I know what you should try!! Use the 30 day take off program! If you're not interested in that, then remember that all lessons are placed in progressive order. This means you should be able to perform "most" not all because some moves just take time or are not right for everyone. But most of the moves listed before the lesson you're working on. Even if you've been taking classes or are not new to pole I suggest starting with the very first lesson, this explains how to use the lessons…Getting Started. https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4dd006a7-c45c-4c1e-b6b6-4a870ac37250
Here is a video about the 30 day program. https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/50e4694e-a85c-4fa0-8e66-61940ac37250
Even if you do not use the lessons I provide in the 30 day program you can swap out more advanced pole work to suite your needs, but it will give you the structure you're looking for. That's why I made it. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

AdministratorMarch 3, 2013 at 4:25 pm in reply to: Perfecting Basic Invert/ Home study questionsPrettypuff1 it sounds like you might be taking the lessons? If so, how often are you practicing and how many times a week are you doing the strength and conditioning lessons. Also how long have you been pole dancing? Inverts and building strength takes time, even more so if you do not get a chance to practice often.
For abs have you tried using the Hard Core warm up? https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/50bf696c-332c-43be-8cce-433a0ac37250
Also the pole strength routine along with the conditioning exercises will help you progress.

Ok, Asutnrgirl. Are you bring the legs up to the pole first as you're dropping the hips down, THEN laying back? Sometimes we rush into the layback and this will cause you to slip. Also during all laybacks you'll want to really squeeze the butt.
Here is the lesson if you're interested. I show you how to work on this from the floor too, so you could give that a try if you haven't already. https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4caf25bf-69d8-4029-94d5-42540ac37250

Thank you guys! I'm very excited about this now I can share my love for pole AND mommy life! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Calipolepixie had some great suggestions. If you're interested most of the strength building and all of the conditioning exercises can be done without a pole all you need is a wall or doorway! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

AdministratorMarch 2, 2013 at 5:47 pm in reply to: using pole as a stand in for fitness barreI'm not too familiar with any of the barre methods but I use my pole to work on ballet basics all the time. You won't be able to place your leg on it of course but you could use it to assist you. You can do pole rows with the pole too, which will work the lats! In fact there's a lot of strength work you can do with the pole too.https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif Aww thank you for sharing that with everyone! I'm super excited about it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

If you're interested, there are a lot of good lower body exercises in the lessons they are found in the Beginner section as Pole strength and the Conditioning section has some too! As mentioned Squats are great and I love the Booty lift and booty squeeze! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rambo.gif

I was going to say that too, I thought I read you have a powder coated LM and like the grip. That would save you money and they go up and down soooooo much faster!!

Everyone can improve their flexibility, and not everyone will progress at the same pace. I have a bunch of individual stretching lessons and two 20 min stretching for splits routines and a 20 min back mobility routine as well. There's no need for any previous experience to learn from the lessons, I include variations to make things easier or more difficult.
Here is the getting started lesson for flexibility, it may give you some ideas on how to get started.

Hi Runemist! I know you had the lessons before, and if you still do, there's a full body workout in the lessons its the Pole Strength routine, no weights needed only a pole or door way. https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4db64418-c354-4da5-aa23-464c0ac37250 The conditioning lessons target some of the smaller muscle groups and they are grouped together according to muscle groups.
You will not see improvement using 5 pound weights, as you know. I suggest going to a gym or investing in weights or resistance bands with different levels of resistance (much cheaper). There are so many things you can do with some resistance bands and a fit ball!

Lol Lyme. Never thought of bellybutton to the floor. I always say stuck your butt out!

Yeah Lina it's annoying, just like my abdominals are the first to go when it comes to strength my hamstrings are the first to go when it comes to flexibility when I've had time off. I must be doing something right if you can't tell though I guess!

Hi welcome, sorry to hear about the booty boo boo! Saphyre has a good suggestion about the foam roller, they come in really handy if you don't have someone to give you a massage. The ache could also just be a sore muscle and the foam roller will help that too. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Welcome!! I was a big gym rat a few years back, and I still enjoy strength training, but since discovering pole and hula hooping I don't visit the gym too often! There are many moms on the site too, I've got 4 kids myself. It's exciting to hear you're enjoying the 30 day program. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Hi Emnemz! There are many individual stretches for the hamstrings in the lessons also I have a 20 min training for splits routine that would help with tight hamstrings as well. Hamstrings are my trouble area so I understand the frustration, I really have to work at my hamstrings!
Here's a link to the side splits routine, https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4e23973c-e724-4d0a-9b2e-79650ac37250

I just watched you video…please be careful! You do not want to be placing all of the weight on the head, the hands or forearms should be assisting you! If you DO work on headstands alignment is VERY important. Here is a video I made showing all of the different "stands". Head, elbow, forearm, and hand. Take note of the balance points for each one and how they are slightly different. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmIciddJyPY&list=PLyXWQXP3dueofybLatPPuLCbvfSPF2oSF&index=10
Also if you're interested I have 2 lessons on the elbowstand. The first is listed as beginner but not because it's easy. It's place there to allow you to get a feel for being inverted. Stands of any kind are not easy, so don't feel you should be able to perform any of them the first try.

I find things like this come up in the chat room and because we're a global site I'm always learning something new!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

AdministratorFebruary 25, 2013 at 11:17 pm in reply to: Help please – Can’t progress to next levelHi Hazi441, if your worried about what to do once you are up on the pole from a shoulder mount I suggest working on it from the ground first (not from standing) but low on the pole. You start in a seated position raise the hips and get into position from there. Keep in mind however, you don't do it from sitting, that's pretty difficult but you do start in a seated position. This helps remove some of the fear of "what do I do when I get up there" Here is a lesson on it if you're interested. https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4d6bac4d-8044-4fa9-9aaa-66300ac37250
I'm curious what is it about the term she that is offensive? No one has ever mentioned that before. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

AdministratorFebruary 25, 2013 at 11:16 am in reply to: What are you pole work out routines like???Shariya, if you're looking for a no brainer pole workout routine you could try our 30 day Take Off Program! It's part of the lessons and gives you 30 days of instruction, telling you exactly what to work on even on rest days, including stretches and conditioning work. It's a great way to build strength and learn more about how to structure your own pole workouts! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
This video explains a bit more. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4KzMIIbZH0&list=UUup79MtZnWP_SCAHeVlmzdQ&index=9

AdministratorFebruary 24, 2013 at 7:53 pm in reply to: Can Contortion Help With Pole Tricks And Mastering them?First you should know that contortion training isn't necessary for most inverted tricks. To progress to inverted tricks you need to focus on building strength and conditioning the body.
If you're self training you might want to take a look at the lessons here! Included in the lessons is a new program called the 30 day take off. Here is a little video explaining the 30 days. https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/50e4694e-a85c-4fa0-8e66-61940ac37250
You may also want to take a look at a blog I wrote. It talks about what pole moves are professional level and that not every move is appropriate for everyone. https://www.studioveena.com/blogs/view/Professional_Level_Pole_Moves_20130127053217
So… keep in mind that contortion training can be a fun goal but it's in no way necessary to enjoy the benefits of pole. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Kate is right, its not like static spinning where you need momentum from the body and limbs. Also, It will depend on how well your pole spins. If you have a nice fast pole then try to imagine your moving through water with your limbs….keep your movements sloooooow. If you have a pole that doesn't spin so well or looses momentum quickly then you will need to use a bit more force with the limbs to keep it spinning.
This video has some tips for using a spinning pole http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtinAzp17s0&list=UUup79MtZnWP_SCAHeVlmzdQ&index=19 https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
