Yes, stretch and strengthen the shoulder, if you ever feel any strain or twinges of pain in this grip stop and don’t use it!!

In Allegra there’s no downward stress on the shoulder girdle (the leg grabbing arm shoulder) it’s just a stretch of the arm and Allegra’s I teach have you grab the foot with the free leg bent so there shouldn’t be much going on with that arm other than a stretch. Even this motion may not be suitable for everyone! So there’s very little risk of straining this gripping arm in Allegra if you needed to bailout of the move, you can just let go! However, with behind the back elbow grips, if you slip or need to release quickly chances of spraining or straining the shoulder is much higher because of the behind the shoulder rotation of the leg gripping arm. It’s likely the arm will be pulled UP towards the head and this could injure the rotator cuff. If you’re not using the lower arm enough you also place body weight on the shoulder girdle while its rotating towards the back of the body. Really the Allegra and Pegasus are not the same or interchangeable as far a level requirements. Please be cautious when choosing behind the back grips with shoulder rotation.

Hi welcome!! No such thing as too anything for pole! I will mention that one handed spins are not appropriate for new dancers at all. Regardless of your size you’ll want to build up your strength and condition your body for more advanced work. In fact most spins are not suitable for new dancers so relax if not be able to do those is stressing you out!

Everyone progresses totally differently so forget about coming up with a mental timeline for moves by looking at others. If you’re seeing progress, even if it’s just a little, then you’re on the right track!

I see you’ve got the lessons and suggest starting with the 30 day take off program, this will allow for safe progress into the fundamentals of pole! I hope reading all of these replies makes you feel inspired!!

I would suggest using the 30 days to flexy program. I touch on everything mentioned in this thread. Not over doing it, stretching other areas, and changing up your program. That’s part of the reason for the program, it allows you to learn how to get the most out of stretching, without doing the same routine over and over in the same way (without change in duration and method) which isn’t optimal. Also cold flexibility will take most people YEARS to achieve.

Also people can become mentally obsessed with achieving what they want so bad they end up stressing out over lack of progress. Relax, flexibility comes in TIME, anyone who claims you’ll have fast and easy flexibility that is lasting, is trying to sell you something. 🙂 True mobility takes time. There are “tricks” and movements that allow the body to temporarily release and become more “flexible” but it’s not lasting. So unless you’ve been flexible in the past or have a natural tendency toward mobility it will not be quick.

I’m so not fond of teaching anything that places the shoulder in this position, only because if you don’t have both the mobility and strength injury is a real possibility! This would be an advanced move for that reason. I’ve actually done this move just recently while playing around (didn’t know the name) Also I had my bottom arm extended. I don’t know if I saved the footage from that practice…..

June 24, 2016 at 10:11 pm in reply to: Gross Old Men?

My views and thoughts are coming from times spent in clubs in the past and knowing many girls who’ve worked as exotic dancers. I have done amateur nights before I discovered pole, but have never worked in a club. However, these days I do get opportunity to perform with as much or as little clothing as I like for all kinds of folks every few weeks so here in SF so are my thoughts.

First, not all strip clubs are the same, I would say it’s important to check out the club you plan on working in. See what the patrons are like, watch how the girls are treated by the staff too, different clubs attract different type of people. Most girls will even sit down and talk with you, at least that’s been the case when I use to go. Usually (not always) you get the job by doing amateur night which can give you a look into how things are run before you work there. Remember in many (not all) clubs you don’t get a ton of stage time, most money is made hustling for private dances.

Now to answer your old man question, lol what is a gross old man? Are you just referring to someone who’s older and there for is seen as creepy because they enjoy looking at women? Just because someone isn’t 23 and enjoys looking at women doesn’t make them creepy. If they come in with poor hygiene or shout rude things, try and grab at you, that’s creepy and rude regardless of age! There are good and bad customers in every industry, you know those people who give you a bad vibe) but realize that many people who enjoy exotic entertainment are not creepy, or bad people they just enjoy the tease. Too often we place anything related to sexuality as gross, dirty or secret but sexuality is healthy and a normal part of everyones life!

I will add, think about why you want to dance in a club, if it’s because you enjoy the pleasure of the tease, and you love movement and flirting, the go for it. If you’re wanting lot of money fast or want to feel better about yourself, not a good idea! Don’t ever put yourself in a sexual situation you’re not comfortable with!

Try not squeezing the arms in so much, instead pull down with the hands, like you’re trying to shove the pole down into the ground!💪🏻
