PFM…omg, I laughed so hard!! Thanks for posting 🙂

Probably every poler, once they get to a certain level, forays into the world of grip aides! While my goal is to be able to do moves without them, they definitely have their place, especially when learning new moves.
Like Chem, I use grip aides in performances. I tried doing a performance without grip once, and while it was 'fine', I didn't stick as well as I would have liked, so I wasn't able to hold some of my moves.

Music! I need music that moves me, so find a song you love and that makes you want feel slinky/sassy/sexy 🙂

I just looked to see what Anastasia wore in that comp…WHERE DOES ONE BUY THAT?! It is gorgeous, with such great detail. Seriously, where??

As far as music..I occasionally ask my students if they have song requests/want to bring in their ipod to play a song or 2. In my upper levels they know they are welcome to do so. You probably wouldn't need to start off your series that way though since most of the time we aren't even listening to the music since we're busy instructing/learning, but that would be a good idea once you get a few weeks in.
Also agree with the enthusiasm. And HAVE A PLAN. Know what your warmup is, your conditioning moves, your pole moves and flows you want to teach. If you don't have a plan your students will know it and the class becomes more of a free-for-all. Have them work both sides! Super important.
Develop a sense for when a student/students are becoming frustrated with a move and re-assure them that happens. Most times it's best to move on and come back to it later.
Encourage your students to ask questions if they don't understand something and to explore the moves and put their own flair on them (we aren't robots). I learn a lot from my students.
GL!

I also don’t love the chair spin. I gravitate toward moves ( or variations) that look long on the pole. I’d love a flat jade!!

Knee hold, yogini, rocketman and iguana mount also.

I'm mostly an 'at home' learner, though I don't consider myself 'self taught', except for the fact that I have no one telling me what/what not to do. This is both good and bad!
I do like to note the difference, because I have definitely utilized all the resources I can (lessons here, pole workshops, teacher trainings, etc). I have NOT figured stuff out only on my own!

What are good brands? I get frustrated looking at labels and seeing crap ingredients (fillers, etc) so I never know what to buy. :/

I haven't taken a workshop with her (yet)…but I think they are full??

I tell students that same thing, Lira…everyone is paying attention to their own self :).

For years, no one 'in real life' knew that I poled, besides my husband and kids. I hated it being so 'taboo'. What if I'd met just one other woman that poled and was open about it? I would have been so thrilled to know someone else, and I also would have wished that *I* had the guts to be so open about it. What if I did meet other women that poled, but neither of us knew it b/c of course, no one felt they could bring it up!
It bugs me that we feel so oppressed about it. Are we doing anything wrong? Of course not. We're doing everything RIGHT, actually, and it feels wrong to NOT talk about it when the opportunity is there.
-
So, so many factors to consider. Most importantly I try to accent the music, so that often dictates or gives me a framework for how long to hold a move. I'd say most of mine are held about 5 seconds.

It's honestly REALLY bothersome to me to hear these stories about being so torn and feeling 'forced to choose' or hide what we love due to other's ignorance.
I totally get wanting to keep some things compartmentalized, sometimes that's just easier. But what's NOT easy is feeling shame, guilt, the need to hide…it's just so oppressive,
I 'hid' pole for YEARS. I'm grateful, sooooo so grateful, now, to not hide it anymore. It is so freeing. This isn't to say that I talk about pole at every opportunity and make sure EVERYONE knows I pole, but I am open about what I do when asked.
If anyone 'judges' me for it, that is their own issue and not mine. They will sure never be on my speed dial, so eh, I'm sure no one who is a true friend or genuinely cares about me would expect me to change for them.
GL, I have been in your position before and it's a tough place to be. Hugs!

Oh yeah, I know it's totally normal. sometimes the stars align and we 'get' a move and then can't repeat it. definitely happened to me. personally, I've learned not to say I've 'got' something until I can nail it every time, every practice. lol.
But to the OP…you'll get it back. I know it. How long have you been back at pole? Give yourself a little time…

my massage therapist said I have excellent muscle tone and am in better shape than 95 % of the population…
I've aquired students because they see my arms and want them. I think that's pretty cool (not just that I've gotten students that way, but that they want muscles too!)
-
Hmm! Interested to hear others experiences…Lyme, do you know what 'clicked' with you to get it back??

I inverted on the pole long, long before I did either an elbow or handstand. Honestly, they kinda freak me out and I still prefer to do inversions on the pole vs. either of those. I do try to work on them every so often to keep myself from getting freaked out by them all over again.
-
Wow, I would looove to try a 40mm! Lyme, where did you get your 38? I didn't know that was possible in the US!
-
Ditto Alicia Polerina, I love those too….there's another drop similar to the holly drop, where you end in gemini I think? Assuming you end in scorpio with the holly drop…I can never remember.
You can do both an upright and inverted crucific drop.

I have tried and tried the sg mount with left arm high, and I can't even get close. I feel REALLY solid in it with right arm high though, which kinda makes sense b/c it's my stronger side and isn't the upper arm taking more weight? I can't really tell when I'm up in it. lol. But then, as I said, my left arm is the upper arm when doing this off the pole, so it's opposite.
I think most of us prefer to invert from the left side of the pole because the bottom arm is the dominant arm. Same with the SM.
My training has come from here and watching yt. To me, it really helps see to moves demo'd both sides, but I realize the harder the move, the less likely that may be.
