MemberSeptember 1, 2011 at 6:41 am in reply to: Rest time before a Competition/Performance??Hi IS! I'm trying to remember what I did last week. I think it's almost the same as what Kitty Cat described. Practiced on Monday and Wednesday – freestyle to warm up, light stretching, then running the routine as many times as I could before the form started to go. On Wednesday, that was three times in a row.
Thursday was a rest day, Friday I did a few skills at the competition location at the competitor meeting – tried not to push it. Saturday was the comp and danced and stretched quite a backstage before going on. Hope this helps!

Nice, Glitter – I actually just finished my first blog post about it – more to come!

The Veeners rocked it! 🙂

I'm 80% paleo most of the time – I do love the occasional post workout cheat meal, though. 🙂 But I adore it. Have lost a TON of weight this way. Highly recommended! 🙂

Oh, and also, thank you everyone for the tips and vids… Got Rocketwoman and yogini. I think Rocketman is going to take some time… But good start!
-
OK – I hope this isn't silly – but how do you deal with deodorant residue? I am practicing right now and find I am constantly cleaning off the pole – I admittedly did just put some on right before this practice, so i am hoping it won't continue to be an issue if I apply well in advance. I just don't want to make the pole slick in the middle of a routine!
-
Thank you chumpchkin – Good tips! I favorited your Rocketwoman video when you posted it, so I can use that as a reference, too. 🙂

I'll post here, too:
I put all my old entries in it, so I could have them in one place, but those are mostly for me. The new content is partially personal and partially articles and videos and so on.

Hi guys – some shameless self-promotion:
This is the first week I'm posting real content to my blog, i.e. articles in addition to just journal entries. The URL is above.
I am hoping to post content 3 – 5x a week.
I haven't had time to pole-i-fy the theme yet, though, do it doesn't quite look like a pole blog. But I swear it is! 🙂 Enjoy!

Starting to get my blog up and running – I've decided to make Saturday Fleibility Check In Day, so here's my first one…
http://www.she-beast.net/2011/06/25/saturday-flexy-check-in/
I didn't do a great job describing to my husband how to take the pics so I'll make sur ethey are more side on next time.

I think, when you're working on a trick and really in a fitness mode, there can be a time when pole isn't that sexy. I definitely consider it a sport workout about 80 – 90% of the time. My hubs and I talk about pole usually in the same conversations we have about his jiu jitsu practices – it's comparing sport progress…
But sometimes, usually after a few cocktails… he makes a playlist, and I put on something skimpy, and we have a *different* kind of pole session. And my brain is in a totally different space. And so is his.
The two are completely separate – with the former he's supportive but relatively uninvolved… and with the latter, well… he really likes it (and so do I.) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif
I know it's not like this for everyone, but this is how it works for me; sometimes giving a performance for your S.O., and not thinking about tricks or form or anything but just finding your inner sex goddess can help get them involved… Just my two cents.

This is awesome – I wanted to wait until everything was official — but I saw PoleFitMom's submission, like, the day before I posted mine and I was like, "WHOA!!! Check out that control!!"
And of course Charley is one of my heroes… so making alternate was such an awesome surprise!!! I can't believe I even got CLOSE to you guys!! Congrats, go Veeners!!! *booty dance*
Also, the feedback was very nice. It was either positive, or things I saw coming ("work on your flexibility" – yup, already on it!!), so it made me feel like I am pretty realistic and perhaps even a little harsh in my self assessment.
Great comp so far!!

Hi Claire! Cool to see you on SV! I'm Meagan – we met for a second at the Pole Con in the shuttle to the convention center on Friday. Hope the Con was awesome for you! I had a great time, I wish there had been more hours in the day to do it all!
Have fun on SV – it's a great community.

Is anyone else Beta testing the new Pole Fit shorts from Bad Kitty? (So cool that they are doing that, by the way!!)
If any of you are tweeting, Jennifer Michelle (@poleskivvies) and I (@meaganoff) are using the hastag #polecon for Pole Con related tweets!

The lessons worked on my PS3 before the Veena site redesign. They have not worked since. I'm not terribly worried about it since I can pull them up on my iPad and other devices – just more of an FYI. 🙂

I just wanted to make sure everyone saw that X Pole is giving away private lessons with featured instructors at the Pole Con over on Facebook. I won one with Jamilla last week (WOO!!!) – they are giving away one with Natasha Wang on Monday!!! Make sure you "like" their FB page for details and good luck!!

MemberMay 18, 2011 at 9:15 am in reply to: International Pole Convention 2011, West Palm BeachI just got a Travelocity notice that they have a fare for $144 RT from Chicago! I didn't look too closely at it as I am already booked…
But for anyone interested, it's out there. And there may be lower fares for other cities as well.
Ryssa– I would LOVE to see more pole wear vendors – I feel like there are a lot of casual & practice wear vendors, and not a ton of performance wear / 'costume' type vendors. That is my dream for the Convention… Casual wear is good, too, though – I can always add rhinestones later… 🙂

MemberMay 5, 2011 at 7:47 am in reply to: International Pole Convention 2011, West Palm BeachI hadn't been on the site in a while – saw they added a workshop with Marlo, but it's the same time as Becca Butcher – shoot! I would love a handstand class! Anyone who's taking it will have to tell me all about it! 🙂

Natasha is so incredible! Congrats to her, I’m sure everyone was wonderful though! Can’t wait to hear about the performances and everyone’s stories of the weekend!!

So I have been stretching 6 days a week for the past two weeks now. I'm doing a version of the Splits in 6 Weeks program, combined with Dara Torres' stuff, and some stretches from my Aerial Circus class… And not only has my progress been much better than before… A magical thing happened today…
I LIKED stretching!! It felt good!! I mean, still stretchy / ouchy the way that it is when your muscle fibers are lengthening, but… I liked it! I got a nice warm feeling in my leg muscles when I slid into the splits!! I have always HATED stretching. This, is, like, crazytown. I think I'm more excited / astounded by this fact than I am about being really close on my right side.
If this goes well for a few mroe weeks, I'll do a vid of my modified routine in case it helps anyone else…
Anyone else learning to love stretching?

MizVix – Why would you think someone would tell you that it's bad? I would love it if I could do better meal plans. I love to cook and I'm getting quite good at it – but looking at the ingredients, I always feel like I am making so much… and then we eat, it and it's all gone!! LOL
I totally second MizVix's advice – even though I find it hard to do myself! Making a ton of something fresh / from scratch and eating it for 3 – 4 days is a great way to go.
I completely agree with ChemmieG – you have to find something you can stick with in the long run. Most clean (or clean-ish – we all need cheats now and then!) diets have an adjustment period as you get the bad stuff out of your system. But if you're finding whatever you're doing hard to sustain, or you feel badly, you might have to re-examine what you're doing.
If you have access to a CSA (community sponsored agriculture) group or a farmer's market, it's a really good way to get local, healthy, tasty fresh food. Some even deliver!
Also, I'm totally addicted to coconut water (not coconut milk) It's light and sweet and a small package is only 60 calories. So refreshing after a workout. I have subbed out coco water, squares of dark chocolate, and dessert teas for actual dessert on most night.
