Haha–that's actually a good question! It's been raining a lot here lately, which is unusual for us, so I might have to make that decision. I'm pretty sure I would just fling myself off the pole mid swing and sprint like hell to my bedroom where I could just sit on my bed and not worry about any metal touching me. When I was little, I actually used to hide under the coffee table in my parents' living room during lightning storms and read a book–I thought they were cool-looking, but was always afraid the lighting would come through the window and get me or something.

I'm actually wondering along the same lines as MrsNaughtyWed–about a year ago or so now, my previously healthy mom started feeling like crap and began losing weight at an alarming rate–she was already very slender, so the amount of weight she was losing was dangerous. She went to doctor after doctor trying to figure out what was going on, and finally they realized that her gallbladder had stopped working. Conventional doctors really didn't do crap for her, so she ended up going to a naturopath who had helped several people get their gallbladders functioning again, and now it's actually working–intermittently sometimes, but it's much better and overall she feels a lot better and is very hopeful that it will eventually function normally again. She also thinks some liver damage may have been done, and she's pretty sure this was caused by high levels of ibuprofen that she was taking for a back injury. It is very hard on your organs when taken in high doses and for longer periods of time than recommended–has your husband been taking it recently, and has he been taking a lot? If he's on any kind of medication, they could definitely have something to do with his problems. Pharmeceuticals can have some very serious side effects that I think doctors sometimes don't adequately warn their patients about.

Mechie, I was in New Orleans about a year after Katrina hit with a couple of friends, and we ended up getting lost in the projects while exploring the city (you know, the one place everyone tells you to absolutely stay the hell away from,) which fortunately for us were still abandoned, but they had a very eerie, dead look to them–there were even toys still left out on the grass. Everything was so still and creepy, so I can kind of envision what your apartment complex must look like. It is amazing what mother nature can do, and it just goes to show that no matter how advanced humans become, we're still no match for her.

Vamp, I hope your new powder coated works out for you. I know you originally wanted stainless steel, but they can definitely cause some issues, although I know some people love them. I just think stainless steel and my sweaty hands are not meant to be.

Veena, I found the old thread you started on how much you love your 45mm TG, so I hope I love mine just as much. I thought about going with chrome, but I sweat a lot, and everything I read made me feel like TG would be a better option for me. I wish there was a studio nearby with different finishes so I could try them all out to see what works best, but oh well.

I just couldn't wait to get it before I posted about it–I knew you guys would understand. I think my sister and my boyfriend are tired of hearing 'Oh my God, I can't wait for my new pole to get here!!' every several minutes. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif  My boyfriend won't care until he gets a dance on it, and all my sister had to say was 'Didn't we go through this with the last one?' She'll understand if she ends up getting one of her own.

So glad you guys are ok! You are a smart lady for being prepared; don't ever let anyone make fun of you for being ready for disaster. Better to have nothing happen and you have your survival kits ready than to have disaster strike and be completely unprepared. I remember once when my sister and I were kids, my dad turned the power off for the whole weekend and we had to get around with candles and actually use a bucket filled with sawdust as a toilet–we weren't expecting any natural disasters at the time, but he wanted us to know what to do in case something were to eventually happen at any point and we were without power for a while. No matter how crazy other people might think you are, shit happens, and it's better to take the teasing for a while than be caught unprepared.

Oh, and I'm really glad your pole is safe. lol!

Well, I definitely have to say my moves aren't as graceful when I wear my boots–especially spins. I probably just don't practice enough in my boots. (I do videos in boots but almost always practice barefoot.) They tend to stick pretty badly. Ideally, it would probably be best to use them on spin mode, but my current pole is stationary only, although my X-pole should be here Monday so I'll have the option of spinny pretty soon here. Most moves they don't interefere with, so far anyway, except my star. Scorpios, geminis, inverted crucifixes, etc. etc. are fine because the boot grips the pole really well–sometimes too well if you want to slide down gracefully. Also, I have found that I don't like doing extended butterflies in them–putting that pressure on my ankle tends to actually pull my foot part way out of the shoe part, so then all of a sudden I have this loose, flappy shoe flopping around. It's never made me take a nose dive or anything, it just feels weird and I don't feel as secure in the pose. They are sexy as hell, though.

How sad; I'm so sorry for your family's loss. I remember watching a video on accidents in driver's ed that included a re-enactment of a true story where a lady stopped on some train tracks (with her two kids in the back seat,) and was totally blocked by cars and couldn't move when a train began coming down the tracks toward them. All I could think the whole time was 'why didn't she just get herself and her kids out of the car instead of sitting there honking her horn trying to get people to move?' Because she didn't take just a moment to calm herself and get them all out of the car, all three of them died.

It's very hard in situations like that to not panic, but try to stay calm; get yourself out of the car and to a safe area. Be safe, everyone.

They might to a certain degree–mine lace up the front, and the little metal eyelets I think are what interfere with certain moves. A Star for instance is harder to hold for me when I'm wearing my boots–I tend to slip in it and prefer doing it in shorter boots or barefoot. I thought it was just me at first, but the slipping only happens when I wear my thigh highs, so I assume it has something to do with them–those little metal things keep your leg from fully contacting the pole, so that is probably what causes the problem. It shouldn't be impossible to do moves, though–a couple of them might just be a bit harder to hold and you might need to adjust your grip.

LMAO! Amen, Veena. Booobies are magical; what else in this world not only provides vital nourishment to another human being, but can also control an entire gender just by being encased in something low-cut and tight?

  • Really, Runemist? I haven't heard that before–I hope I don't end up having issues, because that's what I do. I hate body hair of any kind (I even shave my arms, seriously,) plus I think shaving everything off makes it easier to keep that area clean and fresh-smelling. I've been doing this for years now and so far no problems.

Layla Duvay–I miss the art of the tease. I think a lot of that has kind of faded away–I'm not saying no one ever does it anymore, but it seems these days it's more about shaking your butt a little, then just getting naked. So far every strip performance I've seen by strippers has nothing to do with taking their clothing off in a way that is saucy, or sexy, or teasing–they're just naked all of a sudden. My boyfriend said the same thing about the strip club he went to–he said after a couple of hours there, he was actually bored–while surrounded by naked women! I think there are a lot of girls that go into stripping nowadays because they think they can make a lot of money quickly and easily, and they don't want to work at it. It doesn't seem to be about performance as much anymore, just nudity, which is no fun–I don't care about female nudity, I love the performance aspect of pole or even striptease or burlesque.

Castleoutsider–I browse Stripperweb as well because I find it interesting, but don't post, and I too have noticed a distinct hatred for the most part against people like us here on SV. They think we are trying to steal their jobs or something and/or are copying them because we're jealous. I find it very hypocritical, because they hate being lumped into the 'all strippers are whores/crackheads/drunk sluts' stereotype, yet they think it's fine to assume everyone pole dancing for fun who is not a stripper is a fat, slobby housewife whose husband doesn't find her attractive anymore. Well, I'm not a housewife and I'm not fat and, yes, I even observe basic hygiene, as do the rest of you, I'm pretty sure–I just happen to have a pole in my living room because it's a lot of fun and a good workout. I'm really not impressed with the general attitude on there in relation to that–I rarely even get on there anymore because of it.

I just don't see why they think strippers are the only ones who should be allowed to pole dance, or the claim that they are the only ones who can be sexy while doing it–should taking off clothes be solely limited to strippers as well? The rest of us should just shower with our clothes on, because only strippers know what they're doing when it comes to taking them off. I don't judge them, they shouldn't judge me. So for those of you who are Veeners and happen to be dancers as well, thank you or not adopting the snobby attitude a lot of them seem to be unortunately falling into.

The inner bitch is a great thing. When I let her out to play, no one gives me crap.

LopsiJulie–it's fine to have a different opinion and to not approve of the lifestyle but still respect that that's what someone has decided to do–that's part of being human. We don't all think the same, we don't all have the exact same opinion–that would be really boring. I don't have a problem with someone making a living that way as long as they don't come out of it with a lot of issues and destructive habits, but I can see why someone wouldn't necessarily approve of  a job where you get naked for strangers. I wouldn't do it, not because I'm shy, but because I don't have the patience to deal with grabby perverts who have decided that I'm not only a sex symbol, but a sexual object there for them to do whatever they want with, not to mention that I'd rather choose who gets to see my lady stuff than any guy who had the money for the door fee and is watching me up on stage.

My boyfriend went to a strip club once years before we were dating and had the joy of seeing some nasty guy watching the girls on stage and furiously wanking off. That scared him off strip clubs, and me from ever even thinking about giving it a go, because I don't want to ever look down from a stage and see that.

My boyfriend always complains that I make him look like a pervert because whenever I'm over at his place and he's playing his x-box, I get on the computer and look up pole videos or get on here. He says if anyone looks at his history it's going to look like all he does all day is sit around and drool over pole videos on YT. I also was doing a random web search one time and found an informational (not porn, I swear) site that was all about the penis. Ha ha ha! So basically, my boyfriend spends his computer time watching pole dancing and reading about penises if you go by his history. Needless to say, he usually clears it after I'm done with the computer.

Brad Pitt is way overrated–and I highly doubt he can work a pole like Veena can! lmao Is it weird that a hetero chick like myself spends way more time watching girls pole dancing in revealing outfits than I do watching guys like Brad? I'm sure most of you can relate.

Yeah, that's the only thing I've heard that's new with X-pole, although I'm sure there's tons of stuff going on that I have no clue about. I heard June too; I know Australia already has their brass x-poles. Not sure about the UK.

Yes–messing around with metal, especially a softer one like brass, weakens it. My boyfriend is a plumber and I remember him talking about them snapping something one day because it had had to be messed with and it finally just broke.

I don't know that I'd want to use something as skinny as a 38mm; I think it would feel like a little twig in my hand after a 50mm; I'm still wondering how much of a difference I'm going to notice just with the 45mm. I think split grips will feel nicer, at least, even if leg grips are harder.

I have to admit I'm jealous about the ex-gymnast thing too; after starting pole I've always been kind of mad about my parents not getting me involved in dance or gymnastics when I was younger; I have no flexibility. Didn't they know that a decade and a half or so on down the road, their daughter would take up pole dancing? No courtesy. lol

I think that's probably a good idea. One, by that time they may have more business and be able to split the classes up into different levels, and two, if you're taking Veena's lessons, you won't feel so clueless, and that'll help you to feel more confident even when surrounded by girls who might be more advanced than you.
