Only few days left! I will be working on mine in next couple days. Working on ideas for costume, although I might take Veena’s suggestion of wearing a sheet since I’m not creative lol Due to fact the freestyle does not come easy for me, I’m working on putting combos, etc together. So much fun working on this with a pole sister. This Challenge routine might be a little out of character for me!!

I do have it set for notifications. However, I have a tracfone, which works great for me. But don’t have unlimited data so it’s not on all the time. Once in a while I turn the data on, otherwise I use the available free wifi in various areas. My office has wifi, but I don’t have my phone with me, it’s always in a drawer in my purse. Nothing easy with me! lol

Oh I have been reading the time wrong this whole time. I’ve been on pins and needles all week waiting for 10 PM tonight! My eyes were seeing PM. At first I thought, Veena is going to be that late? lol Bummer, won’t be able to make 10 am.

MemberSeptember 30, 2015 at 10:17 pm in reply to: studios in San Francisco- any recommendations?Veneer meet up, YAY! Let me know. As for driving distance, I know it’s difficult; however, for me if it’s worth it, I do it. I live 2 hours one way from Twirly Girls in Pleasanton and go as often as I can on Saturdays, events, etc. Another studio is 40-45 minutes away. I’d be in heaven if I lived 30 minutes from TG! 🙂 I live few hours from Veena and would take road trip for a gathering. FYI Try Twirly Girls!

Veena teaches and encourages so many other things to learn, even before inverting. I teach a beginner fundamentals class and teach this way also. This way strength is being developed for inverting, etc.
As for motivation to train/practice alone, I understand. I struggle with same thing. All I can say is have a plan of what you will work on. Even if it’s exercises to prep and gain strength. It doesn’t have to be a lot of things or for long time. I find that if I plan a few things, once I’ve started and warm up, I work out and practice longer.
Good luck and happy poling.

I struggle with class(es) that have a long warm-up. I know it’s important, but too long can be too long. I take time, etc to “pole” and I find too long warm up I lose interest. That’s how it affects me.

MemberJuly 8, 2015 at 4:50 pm in reply to: Elite vs. Professional Pole Dancers: The Odd Distinction (RE: Veena Training Course)I, personally am appreciative of the descriptions of levels. At a meet/greet workshop with Pantera few years ago, she told those in attendance who ooooh’d and awwwd’ over her talent, that we have to remember her level of accomplishments compared to ours is the hours, hours, and hours of training. She does what she does for a living, in comparison to those of use who pole maybe few times a week, if even that. I know there are those who probably don’t do it for a living and have lives in addition to pole, however, still have large focus on pole training for specific accomplishments.
I have also experienced many workshops where I left defeated because the material taught was for those who have super strength and flexibility and can keep up with what the pole star was teaching. The workshops are Signature tricks, but indicate variations for Intermediate. However, there is very little variation for the Basic Intermediate level that I fall under. The training course helped confirm that I don’t need to feel bad for not attending a workshop(s) if I feel it is tooooo advanced for me. I am beginning to be careful with which workshops I sign up for and accept my level.
Some of the moves/tricks taught and achieved by pole stars are not necessarily contortionist/gymnastics/crazy level, but VERY Advanced and beyond what basic poler level is. Pole stars, or those in training, in my eyes are Elite because of what they have accomplished in their journey. They don’t have to be able to do what other pole stars, performers, competitors do. But are masters at what they do. I totally understood that this was for clarification for studios, instructors, and polers in general (whether studio taught or home taught) to look at their pole journey and level to know where focus should be and for proper progression. Especially for safety, as well.
I hope this makes sense from an Intermediate, couple times a week, pole gal.

I had the pleasure and honor of getting a sneak peek while this was in process. I saw first hand the labor of love Veena put into this. It came from the heart and desire to share her knowledge and talent with us. This is a GEM. You won’t regret it.
-
Ooooops, sorry if I jumped the gun! Was just so excited about it 🙂 It was my absolute pleasure. You did an awesome job and poured your heart into it. I learned so much.
-
Since you have learned from Veena and her teaching concepts, that will give you an idea. There are many people who “teach” pole but miss a lot of the important part of pole, technique, etc. I agree with Wcox, give her an idea of what your goals are. Her price is great, but only if it benefits you and doesn’t end up just a pole jam. Privates are great, especially at a great rate. Good luck and really hope it works out for you!!

Does xpole have ss? I thought they had chrome, titanium gold, brass. I’m glad you like lil mynx ss. Usually it’s the slipperiest of poles. Good luck. 🙂

I should clarify; in my post I stated “I started couple months ago”. You may realize this, but I meant I started couple months ago preparing and practicing putting my routine together. Thanks to those who have posted words of encouragement.
MizMacy, the confidence part is REALLY tough. Thanks for the encouragement. RasberryAlice, thank you, too. Last year I also almost backed out of the NCPP showcase, and glad I didn’t. It ended up being so much fun, that’s why I want to do it again. I panic because I know time goes by so fast and I feel I should have accomplished more by now, too hard on myself. I don’t really care about performing and maybe after getting through this one, I’ll think more than twice about performing. I don’t like this feeling and takes fun away.

Welcome to SV and to pole. This is a great place for encouragement, help, and fun!

MemberApril 29, 2015 at 12:21 am in reply to: Charges to participate in a student show?Wow, maybe others will be able to give input. Is the pole school renting a bigger or different venue to have the show? Who is instructor(s) giving privates for routine?
I’ve been part of showcase at two different studios and know of a few others in surrounding area. The shows are at the studio so no cost to performers. Only fee for spectators and performers are not responsible for selling a minimum or make up difference. We are encouraged to invite others, and we do like doing that!
Also, those who want help with routine/choreography set up their own privates as often as they like and with who they want.
I agree it would be good challenge, as it took me almost 10 years of poling to do simple routine. I never had interest in performing, but finally tried it. I will do a couple this year again, even though my routines are simple and basic, I am stepping out of comfort zone.
Not knowing all the details, this seems a little steep and many financial requirements to participate. Hopefully others can give input.

MemberApril 12, 2015 at 8:15 pm in reply to: Titanium gold vs.Chrome xpert pole? 40mm vs 45mm ?I love my 45 titanium gold. Had a 50 tit gold years ago, bought a 45 chrome and within months bought a 45 tit gold and sold the 45 chrome.

Yes! You can achieve/accomplish. I started at almost 50 and am now 59 yrs old. I haven’t achieved all that others my age or older have, however, I am doing things I NEVER thought possible. Veena’s lessons are a big part of my pole journey. I still use them to date. I have couple studios I attend, take workshops often, etc. I have cross trained with boot camp classes and still cross train. Having a pole at home is very helpful. I’m not on it as often as I’d like, but often enough to get practice and work out. Greta is an inspiration, however, there are many more of us who achieve and inspire each other at non-champion levels It does take time, practice, patience, etc. Your pole journey will be your own, don’t make it into someone else’s. Welcome and keep us posted!

I am 59, been poling since about 50. I have two home studios miles apart, have visited/taken classes at many other studios and never felt out of place. The only time(s) I feel mismatched is when being in a class where some sensual moves are included as part of dance or warm up. My body doesn’t move in that way and I feel like a dufus, also lack of flexibility makes me feel horrible during warm-up/routine, etc. Otherwise, no matter what age difference is, I feel part of class/pole and welcomed by all. I might add, I am usually asked by someone who I don’t know how old I am, at pole class and the studio I go to for boot camp workout. And am told “hope I can do what you do when I’m that age”. Gotta love it!
That being said, I understand with the Sitting around and gabbing after class, going to poling events together, hanging out outside of pole, etc. I tend to feel out of place. I do hang out outside of pole depending on the event, function, etc. because it’s fun. But if I feel I’ll be out of place as an “old fogie” I will pass.
Don’t forget…WE ROCK!!!

MemberFebruary 24, 2015 at 7:39 pm in reply to: Northern California Pole PresentationalYAY! This is the NCPP showcase I performed in last August. A few months back there was a post by the producers of this showcase asking who we would like to have as a judge. Of course, my response comment was “VEENA!” I’m not saying I had anything to do with her being a judge, but……lol
This is a great event for people like me who does not pole “dance” but wants to branch out, if even just a little bit. Thanks, ottersocks!!!!!!

I am glad other veneers have kept up and enjoy watching all of you.

I’m bummed I haven’t kept up with the January Challenge. I have only done the first two days so far. I worked on days 3 & 4 but didn’t get anywhere with something that should be simple for me. Then things kept coming up. I was actually going to use today, Sunday, to pole and catch up, BUT I went to an Xtreme Boot Camp class yesterday, Saturday, and got my butt kicked BIG time. Since I do work out pretty much, not everything hurts, but my chest muscles and biceps are VERY fatigued, and my hamstrings and inner thighs are on FIRE!
I can barely move around, so I can’t imagine what any poling would feel like. I must admit there were a couple of days I could have done something but got lazy in the cold weather 🙁

Yay on your new pole!! Did you get an xpole? Enjoy!!
