I miss you Gina, I hope you’re eating enough cupcakes in heaven and showing all the angels how to rock the pole in a hat and scarf https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Thanks for bringing my bf into my life, even though sometimes I want to punch him I know you pulled some strings for me after all those times I complained to you about my gross meanie ex-boyfriends. I hope you’re watching me sometimes so you can laugh at all the crazy things that happen to me! I love you beautiful angel!!!!

dont be embarrassed i had problems with this move too! it helped me to think about leaning far back enough to where my butt was above my head, also try tipping your upper body far back enough where you can look at the wall behind you after you invert. good luck! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I find the individual lashes actually easier to apply and more comfortable to wear than the strip ones but that’s just me. To apply the individual ones you can just pick up each clump with a pair of tweezers, dip the little round end in glue, let the glue dry for 3-4 seconds so it becomes tacky, and bury the rounded part of the eyelash clump in your lash line. It sounds harder than it is and you can do individual lashes just on the outer corners if you just want a little extra oomph or you can do them all the way across and and more at the corners and keep adding more until you get the desired amount of volume, if you build up a few rows of them across your lash line it looks really awesome. Strip lashes first need to be cut to match the length of your eyelid, then apply the glue all the way across the strip and make sure to put a little extra glue in the corners. Let it get tacky for a few seconds and then you have to bury the strip of the lash inside that little ridge between your eyelid and eyelashes, this way the band is mostly hidden. Be sure to check that the edges are secure as these tend to pop off easily if there isn’t enough glue. You can use an orangewood stick to help stick them to the corners since it’s kind of hard to get your fingers in there. Always buy the clear eyelash glue, the colored ones sometimes dry gloppy and then you have big black splotches, the clear glue is much less noticeable. It’s best to do mascara at the end so it can help cover up any messy glue splotches. And make sure to throw the glue in your purse to touch up and corners that might pop out.
If your lashes don’t work try letting it get tacky before you put on the lashes, if not then the glue might just be defective/expired…I use the $5 eyelash and glue sets from the drugstore on my clients and no one has ever complained and they work really well. Sephora has some really awesome sparkly strip lashes I’ve worn before and loved. Good luck https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I am actually a licensed makeup artist and everyone has given good tips so far, Ben Nye makeup is also the same quality as Makeup Forever and cheaper but it is harder to purchase over the counter, you would most likely have to order it online ahead of time, but the pigments in their eyeshadows are awesome and stay put forever without an eyeshadow primer. You can probably get away with using stuff you already have if you just apply it heavier and use a foundation and eyeshadow primer underneath, they are expensive but definitely worth the investment, it makes a huge difference in the way the makeup goes on and stays. My two favorites are Smashbox photo finish foundation primer and Urban Decay primer potion. Benefit also makes a product called Shelaq, it will cost you about $30 for a little bottle but it goes a long way and it is a makeup sealer that I use on all the brides I do, it locks everything into place for a long long time, it works especially well over eyeliner since liner seems like the first thing to go when you start sweating. They also make makeup sealer sprays, I’m currently using the Makeup Forever sealer spray but MAC makes one that is slightly cheaper however if you have sensitive skin that might not be a good way to go for you. Let me know if you have any other questions https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I have to agree with Veena on this one, if there is a problem with the way a competition is being run it should be taken up with the competition organizers, not posted on a public forum where several of the girls in question are active and going to see the discussion. I know no one was called out by name but if I was involved in the voting and I saw this thread I would have a hard time not taking it personally…it doesn’t seem very supportive to call out girls who have worked hard to get their videos selected by USPDF and talk about all the competitors not being on the same level, if USPDF selected their submissions to be voted on then obviously they think these girls are worthy of competing and it’s not any of our jobs to question who does or doesn’t have the ability to compete because it’s not our competition so why is it turning into such a problem? I think it’s pretty uncool we work so hard for people to respect us as athletes and performing artists but we have no problem being unsupportive to each other. I know for the most part everyone here is awesome and supportive but it seems like this thread was totally unnecessary and has caused hurt feelings whether or not people were called out specifically or not.

I think my first move was also a fireman…I remember being shocked when I figured out the concept of momentum to swing myself around the pole! It took me ages to invert, I used to only be able to get the ankle on my outside leg to make contact with the pole but then I would slide down, I couldn’t figure out how to hold on long enough to let go with my hands, how embarrassing! Such a long way I’ve come, I’m glad I deleted those beginner videos…terrible! lol

Are you taking the lessons? Veena shows two different ways to go into it in the lesson and Fleur teaches it from a scorpio…this is next on my to do list! Good luck!

I had a friend who also used to break out unexplainably in rashes for a while and they eventually did go away on their own, sorry I can’t help you more though https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif Have you thought about seeing a dermatologist? They might be able to (hopefully) narrow the problem down for you. Get well soon!

Are you going to save them forever after going through all that fuss? I sure hope so…at least a few haha https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif I’m glad they got it together, that was so ridiculous!

Hmm….maybe I should send them a photo of some inappropriate body part and see if they print it…I feel like they would since at least it’s not a "stripper pole".
I’ll write them an angry email…and my boyfriend will definitely tell all of his clients about it and they will write letters too. I always felt gross after eating too many M&M’s anyway! hmmmph!
Too bad they passed up the opportunity to advertise a photo of a pole instructor with THOUSANDS of students who will most likely not buy their products again…when veena is famous and has an endorsement with snickers i bet they will feel pretty stupid https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Song or no song, people are still going to find things to nitpick about to argue that pole dancing is for sluts/strippers/hethens/hookers etc, so even though you could argue that it adds fuel to the fire, I really don’t think this one particular song would make or break someone’s opinion of pole dancing. I’m not sure that pole dance will ever become "acceptable" to everyone so they would see it as a sport the way we do, and no matter what you do those people have already formed their opinion (albeit an uneducated one) about it regardless of how many songs are out there that make us out to be strippers, I’m pretty sure people felt that way before the song came out…if it was somehow making people change their opinion of pole dance from positive to negative then it would be a problem but I don’t think that’s happening. If another band came out with a song talking about pole dancers not being strippers I really don’t think it would help change the minds of people who can’t separate those two things. People will always always always find something to get offended by so I just chalk this up to another thing for anti-polers to bitch about, and another thing we as pole dancers will shrug off and keep dancing.
If people think this song means that all pole dancers are strippers, good, more room in pole classes and workshops for me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I have also had a LEEP done, I’ve been going through having abnormal paps/biopsies every 3 months or so for the past 4 years so I feel your pain literally and figuratively https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif My gyno actually put me under anaesthesia because he didn’t want me to have any discomfort at all and I didn’t since I was knocked out, so if you are worried you might be able to ask if that would be an option for you? I actually had it done in a hospital because my gyno office is actually part of a big hospital so it wasn’t hard for him to do it that way but it seems like everyone else has had it done in office so I’m not sure if that’s even possible.
I have also had drastic changes in a short time, I had a normal pap and then three months later was called in for a biopsy so I know how frustrating it can be, I’m due for another one in August and I am already dreading it!!! Feel free to message me if you have any more questions! Good luck and good for you for staying on top of this, a lot of women are too scared to go the gyno so I always love seeing women who know what they need to do to have healthy lady business areas https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I would let him know that this site is mostly female only and the only men on here are also pole dancers so I don’t think they view our videos as sexy since they do the same moves we do. I have to record my practices because I’ve never taken a class and that’s the only way I have any indicator of my progress. Maybe you can make a deal with him to post them for a week or so so people can give you feedback and then take them down? Is he more worried about them getting into the wrong hands or just people watching them in general? I think guys don’t understand why we post videos because they think everyone watching our videos is looking at us as some sort of sex object which would be the case on youtube but not here. I do watch a lot of the "sexier" videos on here but I’m always thinking "wow that was a great shoulder mount!" or whatever move is going on instead of viewing it as an ooh la la type of thing.

MemberJune 3, 2010 at 3:08 pm in reply to: Auditioning to teach pole classes…without a pole?!Thanks everyone!!! Yeah I agree I am not super jazzed about them not having poles but I am still going to go the audition just to get more audition experience under my belt and to check out the studio and see what they’re all about, I don’t have anything to lose just from looking into it. And thanks for all the suggestions, I think I’m going to choreograph a little floor routine today to teach everyone….I told them I would send them a video so I hope they can use that to judge my skills and then maybe have me come back when they get their poles installed to dance in front of them. But we will see how it goes! And I would looove to open my own pole studio but I’d have a tough time coming up with the money to start it up…maybe I should have a cupcake bake sale?! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
