Hi everyone! I am getting so excited, it’s my first time going to Pole Expo 😀 I actually also live in Las Vegas so I am lucky! I would love to do a SV meet up. Let me know a time and place and I will do my best to make it! I plan to be there most of the weekend unless I have to work but I requested off so I should be wandering around the convention floor most of the time. We are saving for a trip so no workshops for me 🙁 I am petite, dress pin-up/rockabilly and have tattoos on my back/shoulder/arms. Come find me and say hi if you are a veener! Hooray! I can’t wait!!!!

If you are really interested in pole as a career, maybe pursuing a personal training certificate wouldn’t be a bad idea, so then you could work as a trainer but specialize in pole, or at least mention it to your super cool lady clients 🙂 Just throwing that out there!

I hope I don’t sound too harsh in my response, but I have to agree with Chemgoddess.

I am a pole dancer, I also own a cupcake baking business, and I live in Las Vegas. I perform in a show every Friday night. I have 2-3 rehearsals with my troupe weekly, plus extra rehearsal time if I am doing a pole solo in that night’s show. We perform for free drinks, and stage time. We sometimes do a monthly show that pays $10 but usually our troupe leader keeps our pay to spend on costume pieces for us instead. But we are doing it because we all like it, and we hope that by putting in our time now and performing for 20 people and free drinks, that something might come of it, but there is also the possibility of it not happening, which I have to be okay with. It also started as a hobby for me so any money I can make doing it is great. I have made $150 for doing a studio demo once, but most of that cost was for my travel expenses, and her original instructor cancelled last minute. I am not trying to burst your bubble and I hope I don’t sound mean! I also have a baking business and I desperately would love a bakery but I have a day job waitressing and I am paying my dues there to save up money to hopefully have a store of my own one day. I am not saying it’s impossible though, and I wish you the best of luck!

Veena has some great beginner combos in the lessons! I have also competed in similar categories with the allowed moves, if you look up videos from the Midwest Competition Rookie or Essentials division, you can get some ideas. Last Midwest competition I was not allowed to leave the ground at all unless I was in a spin, but no clincs were allowed! It was challenging but there is still a lot you can do. Go look up those Essentials vids because I was impressed at how creative some of the gals got! Mine is on youtube under my real name Diana Sekura. I sadly had some grip issues so you can see my slip ups but it should at least help you get ideas. Good luck!!! Xo

Hey!!! I am so sad to know you feel so scared because performing pole is one of my favorite things ever! I only skimmed the thread, is it a studio showcase type thing?

The first time I ever performed was actually at a showcase miss Charley put on, and I remember I was so sure I was gonna fall I made my fiance sit right up front and promise to come pick me up off the floor if I fell off the pole!!!! LOL. I was quite nervous too but I picked a song I really enjoyed and then when I got up there I remember smiling!!! And I ended up having a great time.

Do what Runemist said and do the mantra! Listen to the rocky theme song and dance around your house before you go in your underwear, do whatever you have to do to get into your big girl confident panties!!! YOU CAN DO THIS. You do pole for fun right?!? This is fun!!!

If you get nervous, google some stage fright/relaxation techniques. It helps me to listen to my song in my headphones and kinda zone out a little before I go on stage and run through it in my head a few last times. Do you have any friends, husband, family going to cheer you on?! Take deep breaths and dont forget to breathe throughout, Charley is right on all points and after I'm done I'm always like, did that just happen?! Post here and let us know how it goes!

Re; spin pole – just adjust with doing poses you can hold easily or shorten the section but I would just do simple poses or hold simple spins. You can milk poses on spin pole for at least 8-10 seconds in emergency situations 😉 and body waves are always crowd pleasers!

Good luck you will be fabulous! I am a seasoned performer I promise you its not scary 🙂 may the glitter sparkle be upon you!!!! xoxoxo

I jump on the Shine fitness bandwagon too! The staff there is SO nice and the facility is awesome, and they have a one of a kind rigging system. Highly recommend!

Tacha – it's a baking competition show where the contestants bake cupcakes with different themes and ingredients, and one team is eliminated each round. A cupcake has the icing on the top and a muffin is usually plain and mostly undecorated. 🙂

Sassypants yes you got the secret pole joke lmao 😉 Missy poles too, that is actually how I met her!!! At a workshop with Alethea Austin, a few days after she won USPDF. We just had baking in common. I forgot to write that in my original post!

Ok a few things – Mini I am so glad you are competing in this one I think it's perfect for you and you will do really really well here!!!!! I'm doing level 2 also, on May 26th.

I was confused about the point of contact thing too because the Midwest Pole Dance Competition counts a cross ankle release as a layback! I know this because I competed in their rookie category where I was not allowed to do inversions but I was allowed to do a cross ankle release and I did one in competition. I guess it was a stupid question because I asked her too but if other comps count the same move as not being inverted I think it's really important to know all the rules. I am competing in this too at the Central division and I had a CAR in my routine until I found out it was illegal!

I am signed up for dramatic Level 2, I may be re-doing my Girl With One Eye piece for it. We will see!!!! I also signed up for entertainment too but I'm regretting that now although I  may just wing that one with a piece I've also done already and see how it goes! Good luck to everyone competing! xoxoxo

How long will you be selling this pole?! I REALLY WANT ONE! But can't buy it until after the wedding so gonna ask for it for Christmas but I worry it won't still be around! I can't wait to go to Saphyre's house and play on it!

    Hehe! Aww thanks OA 🙂

Funny my name came up in this because I just finally did my first dramatic performance piece to try to push myself out of the box and not smile, AND IT WAS SO HARD FOR ME. I don't necessarily think you always need to smile in a performance, especially if it's not a lighthearted piece but I do get sad when I see girls who like they are not having a good time 🙁 Face can definitely make an okay performance into a great performance but face is really hard and I think it takes as much practice as tricks. Then you have to think about your tricks, angles, toe point and face all at once, it gets to be a lot to think about especially for competition. I think it does get better, easier and more natural with performing and stage experience though. The very first time I did a submission video and had to smile at the camera with no one else in the room I felt pretty silly but now it's much easier because I'm used to it 🙂
