Remember that the same combinations of moves and transitions can be put to ANY music and tweaked to fit. I make up unique choreo for all my level 1 classes so that they have something that is just "theirs" when they have finished. But really the choreo is mostly the same combos, put to whatever song they pick, and moulded to fit. Simply by changing the speed and the emphasis of the moves you can make them fit slow or fast music. 🙂 Like the others have said, "Take what she is teaching you and make it yours."

That was great Danielle. I really would not have known that this was a first attempt at a large advanced choreo. 🙂 Everyone looked great the syncro was fantastic!

I've worked on flexibility on and off for years, more consistently in the last year or so, and hard core for my 2012 Christmas Splits since about the middle of August!
Remember it's not a competition, and you don't have to super flexible to try it. Set a more realistic goal if you have to, or just aim to see how close you can get!

I was really just doing maintenance because I was sore from gymnastics the night before. Spend 2 full hours including foam rolling and stretching. Turned out well, glad I took the time to do it. 🙂

For me it was shouldermount way, way before handspring. Shouldermount can be learned low near the floor, making it safer to learn. But I think once you're into the advanced moves, it is really personal. It will depend on your personal strengths and weaknesses on the pole.

MemberOctober 18, 2012 at 11:45 am in reply to: I don’t go around very many times on spinsPersonally I think 2 rotations is fine, especially as a beginner to intermediate dancer. 🙂 Do you have Veena's lessons, she has great advice for getting more momentum into your spins on a static pole. If you don't have the lessons, try to think about how a figure skater spins on the ice. They start the spin by swinging out an arm/leg really wide and then pulling everything tight into the centre to spin really fast. You have to use the same principle on the pole. I could try to explain it but I think it would get rather long and confusing to non-science folks. 🙂 Why don't I go make a quick vid of a couple examples? I will post later this aft/eve.
Another thing I see is beginer's who start their spins with their hand too low on the pole. If you aren't reaching up high enough, you will touch the ground sooner and not get as many rotations. So you could think about that too.
Other than that, you mentioned that you death grip. That will obviously slow you down, but since you already know you are doing it, all you can do is practice until you become comfortable enough to loosen up a bit. No tips for that except be concious of it when you practice. 🙂

Sounds like a few of us have thighs of steel…or chrome…or brass!

@Beckypolegirl LOL my husband says the same thing. Once I latch on, there's no getting away…unless he tickles me. 😛
I can't honestly say that I've kicked any butt since starting pole, but I did start punching the crap out of a guy who grabbed my ass back in high school. My boyfriend pulled me off of him. 🙂
Needless to say, he didn't try that again!!!

Definitely tell the studio owners! If they are harrasing people they are breaking laws regardless of where they are standing. 🙂

That oversplit is insane, and I love the dogs middle splits…they're better than mine!
-
I say go for it! Just make sure you let your teacher know what you want. If you don't talk to her about it first, how can she know? I'm sure you will have fun, and learn loads!

So are we calling it a "dangerously bridged poisson" ????? LOL

MemberOctober 2, 2012 at 10:33 am in reply to: CHRISTMAS TREE SPLITS CHALLENGE AGAIN? I am in!Thanks CdoubleU! Although these are the first pics I've taken, this isn't really my "starting point". I started to train my flexibility a little last winter and more seriously this summer. Seeing these pictures was quite a shock even to me, I had no idea how close I was to my middles!

It does appear similar to the dangerous bridge and also similar to a bow and arrow (with an altered hand grip). But again as chem mentioned, both legs are on the same side of the pole…so different as well.
I love how creative this community is. It is a very pretty move, and anyone who can do it has serious guts!

@MadisonsWorld Pole burn on your thighs is perfectly normal and will lessen with time. 🙂
@LittleEngine If you're getting pole burns on your wrist from spins, it likely means you are over gripping. Try to focus on keeping your arm and wrist more neutral. It will force your wrist to become stronger and lessen your chances of injuring it. 🙂

Doing some more stretching today and taking another set of pics!

I believe that is called a tic-toc.
Here's a great example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WP4-0Sfa6dI
🙂 I can't do it so I have no specific advice but Good Luck!

My man can shouldermount just based on pure upper body strength. Don't think I'll ever really get him into the dancing side of it though. 🙂

We did pole walking, pirouettes, bodywaves, and a bunch of fun stuff. I think she was scared when I suggested it, but she seemed to be having fun today. 🙂
What I do with all my level 1 students after we learn some moves; is have them pick a song and we make up and film a routine to it. I bet my dad will be impressed with at least 1 Christmas present this year! LOL

My old studio used to have a "silver pole" class. 🙂

Please remember we are our own worst critics!
You need to use what you see to your advantage though, continue to record practices and work on fixing some small points that need fixing. Just being able to DO a move isn't enough, you still need to perfect it. Without a mirror or camera, that is nearly impossible. Keep working at it, and if you're feeling brave post a video. No matter how bad you think it is, I guarantee that you will get positive support. Sometimes, knowing what other people see will help increase your confidence, making your moves look even better!

I saw a comment that included hot-knives! Lol, for anyone interested, spoons work better, your dope doesn't fall off as easily!
Beyond that I wanted to add that I love to stretch while stoned. 🙂 I am more relaxed and therefore can push farther without injury or discomfort. Also, I find it less boring. If you smoke anyway you should totally try it!

I turned 29 this summer and have never been stronger in my life! Since I started pole dancing 3 years ago, I have gotten stronger, more flexible, lost weight and inches, and overall I just feel better and more fit than I ever have (even though I was skinny as a teenager, I was very weak, and not really overall that fit). I figure since things have continued to improve instead of deteriorate over the last 3 years, I'm not going to worry about the next 3, or 5, or 10! I don't worry about how I'm supposed to feel or act as I approach 30, I just go with it. 🙂

Haha, I gotta say I LOVE this discussion.
Almost as much as I love my green! For me, smoking calms me down after a hectic day at work. I liken it to someone who comes home at 5 and drinks a beer (or wine) or two with dinner to relax. I am always sober when I work, and I have never been addicted. I can quit whenever I want for as long as I want (and I have multiple times in the past) and it doesn't bother me, but I'd rather have the fun of smoking. Alcohol leaves me with major headaches and hangovers, even when I am not overconsuming. Pot does leave me feeling a little lazy, but that's after a couple hours since smoking and it definitely doesn't put me out like drinking does.
I also agree with those who have said they'd rather hang out with pot smokers than drunks, way more fun to be around whether you are sober or not. 🙂
And it's true that it's not for everybody, some people don't react well to it and that's okay too. But like sensual I also believe that all drugs should be legal, people should have the choice about what to put in their bodies. Just like in the animal kingdom…survival of the fittest! If you put crap in your body and die, well, I hate to sound like a dick, but now that person can't pass on bad genetics/knowledge. We are the only species that puts major resources into protecting all the weaker individuals. I'm not saying that's always a bad thing, (I have a cousin with cerebral palsy, I'm glad people protected him and allowed him to grow up to be a productive member of society) but seriously, there is a limit to everything. The world is heavily overpopulated, and somethings got to give.
There are no easy answers here, but it's a great discussion! 🙂
