My 40mm arrived fast, no regrets!!!!!! So much easier to grip. Wow, a long lay-off and assorted pounds to lose, I’m feeling a little “earthbound”, haha!! One day at a time, no??

Thanks for your replies. I went out and wrapped my hand around my 50 again. I think a 40 will be a huge improvement for me. At 49 my wrists are a little tired, lol.

This happened to me after a lifetime of horseback riding. I lost a friend to a freak horse accident, I lost both parents and had a cancer scare. I’m so nervous when I anymore that it’s not fun right now?? A dear friend told me, “Don’t let the Devil steal your joy!”. So true, I hope it blows over for you. I think maybe we are all a little more careful and smarter as we age too ; ).

November 17, 2014 at 4:19 pm in reply to: Pole “shame” How do you deal with it?

Boy, did I get “outed”, LOL!! I closed the door upstairs where I have my pole and mirror. My family was here from Georgia and I mean all of them. Three uncles that are pastors! They wanted to tour our new house and my aunt decided to go in, closed door or not! Uh oh. In she went and kind of gasped. I was explaining it’s a workout program (I was sweating bullets, hahaha) while she looked at me disapprovingly. Then my other aunts and then uncles all started filing into the room and everyone was REAL quiet!!! I was explaining again that it’s a great fitness program and great core workout, yadda, yadda, but I could tell that I could stick a fork in it!! They were probably all speculating that maybe that’s how I paid for my last car, LOL! I’m in my 40’s, I felt like I was 10. I know they were dying to pile down the stairs and light up the cell phones and “tell”! It was awkward, but oh well, I can laugh about it now. I’m in a conservative neighborhood. If I had any “cajones”, I would put it downstairs in our living room. I am wasting 14′ ceilings!!!!!!!

Yes, changing color with Photoshop very doable..and now with Photoshop 5 and the "content aware" improvement, very easy to just take the pole out of the photo completely (easier with more contrast between pole and background).  Now that would be interesting!  A brass monkey, superman or something and no pole….I guess it would look like you were flying or levitating!

Well I can vouch as a "hard head" that would not stay out of the Florida sun as a teen/young adult and I frequented tanning beds for a bit.  It finally caught up with me in my late 30's and I had cancer on my eyelids (three places), later my upper lip (not a fun surgery) and then a doozy that required ten stitches near my belly botton and the stress of waiting to hear if it was melanoma.  I had squamous cell carcinoma, that left untreated, can spread quickly to other parts of the body, like the lymphatic system, bloodstream, and nerve routes.  Not to mention other cancers and worrying when more will pop up from my idiocy years ago.

Good for you Poler..not worth it.  I am fair-skinned and have had pretty good luck with  Body Drench Quick Tan Spray.  Sold at salons for a lot, but Amazon.com has a 3 can pack for around $33 that will last me all summer + and keep my legs from scaring people, haha.  If you look it up, someone wrote a very detailed review on how best to apply it (she must stay very dark all year round).  I just use it through bikini season to not look like a ghost. It doesn't streak and I still stick to my pole just fine.

Seems to me the natural look is all in the technique.  Less is more…light layers work so much better with this spray than trying to use one heavy coat.  And as Chem mentioned, keep the sunscreen handy…no protection at all from a faux tan.

Good luck with it..lots of good stuff on the market to choose from.

I'll try to embed a photo again here..bear with me here.  Come on down Chem!!  Weather is getting just right.  This is Crab Island/Destin Harbor:  It's about ankle deep when the tide is right and just one big party all season.  You just anchor, socialize, stand in the water and wrinkle, ha ha.

I have the chrome X pert 50 mm. No rough edges at alll…got it in April I think this year? So that’s odd. Never left a mark on me in crucifix other than just normal pole irritation, depending on how used to a certain move my skin is. Any plank type moves are no prob, etc. Can’t speak for taking it down..I just leave it up and it’s a conversation piece, haha. Very smooth spinning, it does grip MUCH better once it’s warmed up a bit…day and night really. I just usually warm up walking around it and stretching and bending with my hands on it and with time I can kind of tell if my hands are too dry, the pole needs a wipe or is okay, etc. I never take it out of spin, so don’t know on that either.

I’d be concerned with the rough edges…there is no way to get scraped on the one I purchased (unless you accidentally touch the spinning ceiling fan..bad idea).

Oh boy..I’m about as flexible as a cinder block. I was cruising You Tube earlier today and found a lot of splits techniques/tips advice under martial arts.

This vid was pretty interesting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyuND1uHHTU

Thought I would give it a try.

My splits are still so high you can drive a Volkswagon under my butt! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif

    It’s on my bucket list…

    Have a great week everyone!

    Hiya from Florida…

    2. What operating system is on your computer: Android 2.2 on phone Windows on home PC
    3. On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate the video performance on your computer: 9 Ran very well with DSL. Crisp.
    4. What web browser did you use: IE
    5. What kind of phone do you have: Motorola Droid
    6. Did the video work on your phone: Yes!! Yay
    7. On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate the video performance on your phone: 5 Great quality, but much stopping/freezing while it loaded which I blame on my po-dunk cell company. I’m out of a 3G area. Image quality excellent.
    8. How does the performance of the test video compare to the performance of current StudioVeena.Com video: It seemed like the audio was a lot better? Like the size of the new window.
    9. Please provide any other comments regarding your video experience: The site is so great…love the work you put in to make it better. Much appreciated. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif

September 2, 2010 at 5:42 am in reply to: Really need to lose weight

    Hello..

I’ll pop in with something that worked for me. Fall of last year I needed a hysterectomy for fibroids (or I was told I did). I was 42, my BP with meds was staying at 150+/ 100 and when I agreed to go ahead with the surgery, the snitty receptionist said, "he won’t touch you with a TEN FOOT POLE with your BP the way it is". Wow she was rude. Maybe a good thing. My weight was up, my mood was down..woe is me. The final straw was geting together with friends after Thanksgiving from Jr High school. When I saw the photos of us together I was shocked at how I looked. That was it for me.

I was seeing other doctors (thanks to a herniated disc) and finally a doctor said losing weight will help your back, your BP, yadda yadda. He very specifically told me to stay UNDER 30 grams a fat a day. Work out 45 minutes, 5 times a week. I thought I would last a few weeks and not stick with it, but for some reason I kept chugging along. I live on a farm, and any gym I ever join loses it’s sparkle when I’m already tired and have to drive so far. Well…we live on 36 acres and I decided to walk. We have roads cut through the woods on the back of the property and dear husband mowed out a half mile loop for me. He even planted grass. Well in December I started walking. Just a few laps to begin with. A few steep hills back there, so I would huff and puff and thank goodness for my Ipod. A good jam would come on and I’d tune out the negativity and walk faster. I followed his 30 grams of fat rule and continued my walk in the woods and it all started to work. I’d eat oatmeal, fruit, carmel rice cakes for my sweet tooth and, chicken/fish/chicken/fish. I wonder some days if I will grow gills or start clucking. Lots of veggies, fat-free spray butter, plain Greek yogurt replaced the sour cream on my baked potatos (it’s actually good). Organic skim milk, low-fat mayo or just skip it (a hard one for me) and on and on. Learned how to make the best strips of chicken breasts with wing sauce and eat celery with fat free dressing and it’s just as good.

I started following up at the doc and in a few months I was 9 lbs down. In another 45 days I had lost 12! About six weeks ago I went back and had lost another 9. My BP is perfect, no meds at all now!! All total this year over 35+ lbs and I went from a 12 to a size 6/8 and I’m 5’8. I went again today and walked my 3 to 3.5 miles and it’s just what I have to do. The Veena lessons couldn’t have come along at a better time. We had a BRUTAL summer here in Florida and I was able to start working the pole in on days when it was just too darn hot to walk and I’d find myself in there for sometimes 2 hours at a time and just so determined to fight this back injury and gain core strength and not lose my mind with two very dear, but very ill elderly parents to oversee. Now the upper body strength is coming, my legs are toning up and I love the workout.

Funny thing is I refuse to get on a scale or let them tell me the numbers. I’m too obsessive and my clothes did the talking. Giving away 33 pairs of pants let me know I’m on the right track. It’s finally a lifestyle for me and I plop down every night with a bowl of Butter Pecan frozen yogurt with carmel drizzled on top (probably a fourth of the fat that was in the Ice Cream I used to eat). It’s September today and I haven’t had one fast food burger this year, I don’t drink soda now and when I do steal a few of my husband’ s fries, they just aren’t that great to me anymore. Kind of gross actually.

Hang in there…took me years to find what worked for me and my doc is a huge fan of Sparkpeople.

    Wishing you the best…

You know I just got this down like a few weeks ago? I studied the videos, watched things in slow-mo and fought and fought, and then it just happened. I was kind of surprised that it seemed like I was trying TOO hard maybe? I wasn’t really expecting to do it, I scooted things around, inside leg hang, and badda-bing I was hands-free in Gemini.
I did the happy dance and was so excited I dragged the hubby off the couch to come and watch. Up I went and did it three or four more times. I thought it would take many months more, so maybe you’ll just pop into it before you know it? Don’t know if that is much help..I’m a newbie, but just continuing to try to find the right position that worked for me finally made it happen.

Best of luck with it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif

And then when I turn the fan off I’m sweatier and more apt to slip, so I can’t win! We have a fan up in every room and I don’t really have much clearance in any of the rooms..

Then so funny to watch videos that people post of their pets passing through while they are on the pole. I was wondering if it was just me! My old cat likes to plop down pretty much right on the base.. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif My other one just stares at me like I’m a nut.
