climbing pads are really good that is what i use. They are called bouldering pads or crash pads. You could look on craigslist or ebay. They are expensive new, but you might be able to find some used. Good luck!

It is a beautiful, arty picture. I think you look fantastic. People have weird ideas in their heads about pole dancing. If you posted a pic of yourself in a teenie tiny bikini, on the beach, no one would say anything. I think the more people that post pics of themselves on their poles, the better. Let people see that everyday women are learning to pole, and embracing their bodies and sexuality. I worry a little about what my family thinks when I post pics on facebook, but poling is a part of my life, and you can’t control what other people think. I say, keep posting your pics, you are beautiful.

MemberSeptember 27, 2009 at 12:57 am in reply to: Totally new and scared to death! lol!hello. My only advice is too not get so excited that you over do it, when you get your pole. When I got my pole, I was so psyched I practiced for about 30 mins a day for 3 days straight and really strained my tendons on my wrists and forearms. So, maybe just work on it every other day. Just listen to your body. good luck and have fun!

I agree with georgiamarie. When I put my pole up I was so excited that I practiced everyday for 4 days, and it strained my wrists and forearms; I haven’t been able to get on it in 3 days. I don’t know when I’ll be able to get back on it either, my wrists and arms still hurt https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif It is so hard to walk by it and not play on it. So, take it easy, you have plenty of time.

Hi Angee,
I saw the platinum poles too, they were just too expensive for me to buy. And yes, I’m a yoga teacher. I just got certified in vinyasa flow yoga in June. Are you interested in yoga?

Hi Angee,
I did some research before I bought my pole and everything I read, said to buy the x-pole. So, I did. I have been very happy with it. It seems secure, and well made. My advice is once you buy one, don’t overdo working out on it. I was so gung ho, that my wrists and forearms are soo sore. I haven’t been able to get on it in days. Good luck, and enjoy!

I just installed my pole about 5 days ago, and I was very surprised at how slippery it was. I do have a lot of upper body strength, and I had a hard time holding on to it, not to mention the bruises I got all over my legs. Some of the things that helped me were tips I found on the internet, before I joined this site. Washing my hands before I start, helps remove the oils from my hands. I use windex to wipe down the pole, and if i start sweating from the workout, I put some gymnastic/rock climbing chalk on my hands and inner thighs, all of which help with the slipperiness. I think just practicing spins and pole pull ups has helped my grip strength, so I don’t feel like I’m gonna slip right off, all the time. Keep with it!

I am 41 and a mother of 2. I am very fit, I run, rock climb, teach yoga, and now pole dance. I am happy with my body, except the stretch marks and loose skin I have on my lower abs from having children. I am self conscious about that part of my body and try to hide it. I would like to feel comfortable showing my stomach, and have thought many times about having a tummy tuck. But, I just don’t think I could do it. For one, I’d be exchanging lots of smaller scars (stretchmarks), for a huge scar that runs from hipbone to hipbone. Also, being as active as I am, I’m afraid that after surgery I’d be limited in what I could do physically. Yoga, pole dancing and climbing are very core related activities, and I would hate to come out of surgery and never be as strong as I am now. I also can’t justify spending the money on a tummy tuck, and they are expensive! I am trying to come to terms with that part of my body and realize that it is the price I paid for having two beautiful children. I will probably be self conscious if I pole dance for people other than my husband, and worry that they are grossed out by my stretchmarks and looser skin, but it doesn’t really matter what they think. I have a strong, athletic body, but it’s not perfect, and that is O.K.
I have nothing against plastic surgery. Just make sure that you weigh all the risks before doing it, and know that there is no guarantee that you are gonna be happy with the results afterwards. good luck with your decision! And know that you aren’t alone! There are other moms out there that feel the same as you https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I always notice that i get sweaty after my 2 cups of coffee in the morning, so I don’t usually practice on my pole in the mornings. I’m also a rock climber and I know that my hands sweat more when i climb in the mornings after my coffee. It is usually better in the afternoons when the coffee has worn off.

Hi Shelley,
I love me some red river gorge https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif We have great climbing in Tennessee, but the red is my kind of climbing, I love the overhanging jug hauls. I’ve climbed at many of the crags you mentioned. I haven’t climbed at any of the trad places you mentioned (i.e. fortress or long wall). some of my favorites are roadside, lots of places in muir valley, military and left flank, drive-by and the motherlode. It is only a 4.5 hr drive for me so, my family and i go there often. Usually my whole family climbs, but this summer my husband has had a blown finger tendon, and my son is taking a break from climbing, so I am the only one climbing at the moment. I had to find a new climbing partner, which has been good for me, cause it forced me to lead harder than i had previously. I would usually let my husband be rope gun and i would top rope. But, my new climbing partner pushes me, which has been good.
I’m so excited about learning more on my pole. I’m kind of addicted. My problem is that i exercise so much btw climbing, running, pole dance, yoga (oh yea, i’m also a yoga teacher), that I find i’m always sore. And, I’m impatient. I want to learn all the hard moves Now! Well I gotta run. Have a great night!

I have relatives in the DC area. I LOVE the red river gorge. I was actually just there for 8 days, and am going back for about the same amount of time over labor day. We have been going there for about 4 years, and we always camp at Miguels. I wonder if we actually know each other. My name is Shannon Marlowe and a lot of people know my son Max marlowe. I don’t know if we are actually supposed to tell each other our real names, but I don’t see the harm in it, in this instance.
I’ll have to try to hook my ankle around the pole. I’ve never tried it that way. I think I am gonna try to learn how to do the gemini soon. It looks really cool. i’m gonna use my sons crash pads, so as not to bust my head open https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif I’m sure some new thigh hickies are waiting me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

hi there fellow rock climber. I’ve been climbing on and off since 1988. Where do you live? I have only been poling for a few days, but I agree that the transition is easy from climbing. But I think that it is painful trying to sit on the pole, it does give me pole hickies on my inner thighs. I haven’t been able to stand to let go with my hands yet. i’m looking forward to being able to do some inversions and more athletic tricks.

Hi pennygirl. I actually come to clarksville a lot. I rock climb there at King’s bluff, I’m actually heading up there today. Yes, nashville does have one pole dance studio, the other one closed last month. But with classes being $30/class, I decided to buy my own pole and teach myself. I have lots of new bruises, but i’m having fun. I’ve learned about 10 spins, how to climb the pole, and do a shoulder mount. I still haven’t learned any inversions, but that is next. How long have you been poling?

thanks everyone! Yeah, i already wash my hands before i start and spray my pole off with windex. I keep a towel nearby and have to wipe it and my hands off often. It does help, but once i get into it and start to get sweaty, i spend a lot of time wiping down. I’m also a rock climber so i have lots of chalk around. I’ve started to use it some too when i get sweaty. I may try making some liquid chalk out of alcohol and chalk, I’ll let you know how that works. It is fun having a group of people to talk with about this stuff.
