This is one of the instruments that I use at work:
    https://www.studioveena.comhttp&#58://www.micromeritics.com/Repository/Images/Unique/asap_2420_large_0_0.jpg

The lower section where the brown mantles are in the picture are just about at squat height. I will squat on my tiptoes, sometimes with my knees apart, sometimes together, sometimes I switch, but I ALWAYS stand up butt first!!

I look at street signs to see if they are the channel ones or if they are the round ones. Don’t even get me near a playground!!! I have become obsessed about trying to find bars that have poles (hey, I found 4 in my area).

Last week I noticed that the bowling lanes next to where I work has a support pole at the main entrance….so on Friday when I was over there I went out the front entrance to look at the diameter of the pole (it’s a little big, and I have big hands).

For me I am always doing something different. At least once a week I lift weights. One night is pole. One night may be pilates or stretchcing. I also have the Turbo Jam series on dvd, along with some other toning type dvd’s. Exercise TV on demand is a great resource, too, as I can check out all sorts of new routines. I bowl every Friday at work. Sometimes we take the kids roller skating. Does dancing in heels for 4 hours count ? During the summer there is hiking and biking and walks in the park with the doggies and swimming and and and and(Summer is nuts for us).

I am horrible with "routine". My schedule is too crazy to be consistent so I try to fit in at least 30-45 minutes of "something" a day.

There is a bar in Akron called Whiskey Dick’s/Hue (2 bars) that has a cage and also 2 poles that sit on the bar. Just FYI.

Good for standing up for yourself Chemmie https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Sorry you had to but good that you did!

    Thanks VB.

You all have to remember (know) that I am a total chem geek and a total introvert in social situations (unless I have a pole, a dance floor or something that I can talk to you about…. I am HORRIBLE with small talk), so for me to blow in this setting is just not me. Now if you were to meet me you would never know either of those two things because we would have something in common to talk about and I would have diarrhea of the mouth.

Glitter, do you have access to an incline bench (either a regular incline bench or a sit up bench)?

    https://www.studioveena.comhttp&#58://i.walmartimages.com/i/mp/MP/10/00/11/03/MP10001103358_P255045_215X215.jpg

Instead of putting your feet where they would normally go, put your head there and then do reverse crunches. Try to bring your knees to your forehead and then lift even higher. If you want to add a little extra do a few pulses at the top and then slowly lower yourself back down. These and these alone helped me TREMENDOUSLY with my shoulder mount. I have yet to try aerial.

No, never. You know at first all of the family ribbed me about it….everyone pretty much makes some sort of comment at first. Then there is the curiosity and wanting to see moves. She has even made nice remarks on FB about some of the pics I had up. I don’t know if it is her in general or her feeding off her boyfriend who is a sarcastic ass (can we swear on this forum??).

Out of all of the performances I saw from that competition she was the one who really wowed me.

Not to sidetrack, but Veena I have issues with this also. I can sign in on the main page (on the bottom) but then if I click on a profile I get an error message stating that only registered members can view profiles (videos etc). I then have to login in again (using the link on the upper right of the page) and I am fine.

She was shocked and started back peddling. The rest of my family did not say a word. See, I am the baby so I am used to getting picked on, but there is a breaking point and it is usually not good!

Mary Ellen is great. I just got back from a week long trip to Jamaica where she was instructing. I definitely recommend her classes.
Was the trip amazing?? I soooooo would have loved to go!!!

The studio in Akron is just opening and I have not been there. Cleveland Exotic Dance from what I understand is just beginners stuff. I personally go to Be Studios on Cliffton. Christina the owner is great. Unfortunately a lot of the upper level stuff we are figuring out on our own using places like this and different videos and such. Mindy is the advanced instructor. Classes run $20 which is nothing compared to a lot of other cities. I would be down for a pole jam if you just want to come up and have fun. I would even consider running down to the place in Akron. It looks like they have open pole on Sundays and it is $15.

I know that Be also has an Urban Fusion class but I think that is only on Wednesdays.

BTW, would probably be able to talk Mindy into getting into the studio on the 1st….I am just not sure how hung over I am going to be!!

Also, there are 3 "regular" bars and 2 "other" clubs in town (Cleveland) that have poles. There used to be a pole at a club in downtown Akron but I think that club is closed now. I can check into it.

I remember one dancer years ago that I saw at a local club who really got me interested in pole (WAYYYYY before it was acceptable). She is the only one I have seen that did anything besides shimmy next to the pole. The only time you will see more than T&A is when they have special guests.

Oh, yeah, some of the clubs I have been to the ladies rest room is in the girl’s dressing room.

Jamilla has a REALLY good explanation of how to do tailspin on one of her videos. She has you starting off standing and putting the pole almost to your crotch on your left leg and then lifting your right leg into the V….just to get the right feeling and balance point. I have to have my hands way farther down close to my crotch to get the right angle on this. I have also bruised myself pretty bad learning this. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif

I would never have been able to be "on" in a crowd like that. Sounds like the person that hired you did not do their homework.

The same is true here in Ohio….I don’t know of a single bikini bar, they are all topless or more and none are just dance.

Welcome to pole! You can try using a bandaid or if they still make new skin you could try that. If left open it may just keep ripping which will be worse. You will eventually have callouses where the blisters are.

Empowerment Through Exotic Dance. Mary Ellen is the owner. I have not taken classes with her, just know her though a bunch of pole forums. I believe she is in Chicago Heights.

I ended up buying the book. Amazon (or should I say the used book store) was great, ordered it Wednesday at lunch time and I got it yesterday morning. I ran through the "energy" series last night with the exception of a few of the stretches (seesaw….are you freaking kidding me??) which I substituted with the beginner stretches. I like that many of these I can do in my office.

I had a piece of left over wall paneling under my pole. In 2 years it has not moved. I also have those interlocking floor mats that I put down with a hole cut in the center of one to go around my pole.
