I didn’t know felix was a stripper.
My respect points just went through the -roof-
ROOF.
I am not quite sure about that. I know that she studied classical dance growing up and was in school for a dual degree in biochemistry and something else when her mom introduced her to pole. According to her site she was also named the top exotic dancer on Australia (or best stripper or something to that effect) and she did not even know it since she has been in the States for some time. Nothing I have ever read states that she was a stripper and I think she has even denied that in a few interviews. -
I am forward of the pole a bit when I do this.

One that makes you feel like a million bucks! You know when you put something on and it fits you perfect and hides all of your perceived flaws? It is also not just the "costume" but carrying the costume. If you feel uncomfortable in it then no way will it ever come off as sexy.
One of the outfits that I love and feel incredible in is a pair of white short shorts, my white boots and this fuchsia beaded push up bra that I bought in Texas.

Poletential is not far outside of SF and is where Fleur is from.
I do not believe that Veena has a studio but she is also in that area.
S Factor is in SF but I am not sure if they still offer "flight nights" on Friday evenings.
There are 2 or 3 others in the area but I have not heard a lot about them. I believe Slinky Productions is one, Pole La Teaze is another and possibly Sedusa?

Someone had just recently posted about making her own Bobbi pole. I guess the size of choice at Bobbi’s pole studio is 38mm. I have found that small poles are easier to grip if you are used to larger ones. Not sure about the deathlay, though.

yippee!!

Aggghhh…Empy and I must have been posting at the same time as my post did not show.
If you are wanting to become a dancer I would focus more on flow, transitions and oozing sexuality. A few well executed moves can grab attention but that is all you really need. The last thing that someone wants is a sweaty tired dancer, and most advanced pole dancing will leave you that way.
As far as progression, it really depends on the person. I was already into fitness before beginning on my pole journey so some moves came easy. I do not have a dance background so flexibility and flow are my weak points.
I would also suggest trying to find a bar that has poles where you can practice performing. Dancing in front of people is different than doing it at home.
And after reading Empy’s post it seems like we just said the same thing. Great minds, huh?

If you are trying to be a dancer practice on flow and floor work and being slinky. Have a few moves that you can do well and don’t worry about the rest. Difficult moves will make you tired and sweaty….not really what you need if you are dancing.
As for speed of learning, everyone is different. I was into fitness for quite some time before getting started so many of the moves came easy because I already had the strength. I do not have a dance background so some of the transitions have been slow learning. I also am not very flexible so some of the moves are not even possible.
I would suggest finding a bar that has poles so that you can get used to performing. It is MUCH different than doing stuff in your house.

There is another topic that just started the other day that has a lot of really good tips.
How to improve grip strength
-
Here is the topic.
I have not seen the dvd so I cannot help on which will help, but I would think that all of the stretches involving the legs will help with getting into the splits.

I know I will get flamed for this but tanning at least once a week really helps me with this. Usually by February my husband and I were at the verge of divorce until we both started tanning during the winter.
Also, they have just come out with the compact fluorescents for reptiles that duplicate the sun. The bulbs run about $15 a piece but it may be worth it to replace some of your bulbs in the house with them.

Can’t help with poses but try to remember to point your toes!

MemberNovember 24, 2009 at 7:25 pm in reply to: Looking for "Pussy cat dolls" type clothingI do not see anything super unique about their clothing. Most of it looks like items just thrown together. Places like Rue21, Deb, Charlotte Ruse, etc have all sorts of inexpensive lingerie. Places that you would not even think have cute things that could be put together (walmart and target have some really cute lingerie for dirt cheap). Don’t look for an outfit already put together but for things that would work together.
Not that this is pussycat dolls-ish but last year for a Christmas party this is what I wore:

The green and white top was from Rue 21, the "shorts" are undies from Target, the socks are from Target, shoes were from Dots, I wore my red push up bra which is from Walmart and the beads were leftovers from Mardi Gras.
If you see something on sale buy it. I have a belt that I have yet to put with an outfit but it it looks like one of the expensive leather belly cinchers but it was only $5.

The only time I dance in shoes if is we are out at a club and they happen to have a pole. I will say though my balance has been off on some tricks due to the weight of the shoes (I mostly wear boots).

MemberNovember 23, 2009 at 8:26 pm in reply to: Resistance Stretching–Check This Out!!!!PNF stretching confuses me as there seems to be so many variations even when it comes to the same PNF techniques!
But I was under the impression that even with CRAC it’s against a static force provided by the trainer and this resistance stretching seems to be against a moving resistance provided by the trainer as the athelete contracts while the trainer pulls them though full range of motion?
Ummm…..yeah, it is as confusing to me.
The example I gave elsewhere was with a straddle stretch. In PNF you would either have someone pulling you from the front or pushing down on you from above. In pushing down from above you would be resisting, however much of it would involve your back. From the front it would be a lot in your shoulders and back. In the Cooley method you would pull yourself toward the floor with your hands on your ankles while at the same time trying to push the backs of your legs into the floor.

MemberNovember 23, 2009 at 5:09 pm in reply to: Resistance Stretching–Check This Out!!!!Empy, I was just discussing the difference between PNF and resistance stretching on another forum. It is similar to CRAC PNF. It is not until the upper level stretches that a partner is needed.

I can comment on minimum space…..put on your tallest shoes and then stand next to the wall with your arm stretched above your head. The height to the top of your hand is the space you need around your pole, especially if you are planning on doing any flying moves.

I have my pole in my garage but I am in NE Ohio. I have a heated garage but it takes quite a bit to warm my pole in the winter. In the summer it is super grippy on warm and humid days. Also if the pole is too cold then I have issues with condensation between the cold pole and my warm skin and I have no grip whatsoever. If a cooler pole works for you then I say go for it!

You look much more at ease in that video than you did in your earlier one. Looks like the week was a blast!

Let me know when you are heading up and I will join you!

If I am at a club and there is a pole there are always girls asking me to show them how to do something. I will show them fireman, front hook and usually some wall work (frisk to turn keeping head on wall to wall slide). I love the look on someone’s face when they spin for the first time!

At which studio?

And again, I can do this but not an aysha (or should I say a proper aysha-away from the pole). I don’t get it.
Working on headstands and handstands really helped me get the core strength for this. I have been doing handstands against the pole and then trying to get all parts of my body off the pole and just balancing. Some days I can hold it longer than others but every time I pole I do this. I have just recently started doing headstands just on a mat, going from tripod into a headstand.
