But looking back at my older vids, i can see how much time & practice can do in terms of improvement in everything, including dance movement & aesthetics of a trick, or the fluidity of going from trick to trick. Like you, i have no dance or gymnastic background either.. but my dancing has improved TREMENDOUSLY in the past 6 months! Granted, it’s not anywhere near perfect, and i still wish that i could put on a flawless performance every time i get on my pole (it only happens once in blue moon), the way i see some other girls doing. It’s like they can dance perfectly every single time they pole, regardless of how many tricks they do. But you know what? It DOES get easier & better. You’ve only been at it 6 months! Just wait & see how different you’ll be in another 6 months. We will get there!!!

While on this topic, I want to share a very strange (please dont; laugh) fear of mine. I an TERRIFIED of hurting myself while on the pole very badly and being unable to move or call for help, and then having people find me the next day or two crumpled next to my pole in my bra and undies. I even get nightmares about it. It’s not just the getting hurt part. It’s also being found half naked or indecently dressed. What will people think? I can hear the nurses gossip already, " hey, did you hear about the girl who came in with trauma to her head? She fell with POLE DANCING! IN HER UNDERWEAR!!!Talk about slutty."
*shudder* https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif
Moonflower, i have the same fear! I usually practice at night when my bf is at work, & i always have the camera running. I can just picture him coming home, finding me passed out on the floor with my heels on, body bent all awkwardly. Then he sees the camera still running, & goes & watches to see what happened, where he sees me trying to act all sexy & cool, when suddenly i slip in the stupidest of ways, frantically trying to save myself before crashing to the floor! Talk about humiliating, LOL.

I really don’t know enough about this to add anything to what the others said, but one thing i do know is that you definitely should not do anything to irritate it more! I’ve noticed from my own experience that whenever i use my injured muscles in my workouts, they just get worse. They definitely need some rest in order to heal, & it’ll be worth it in the long run! I hope your poor little hamstring heals really really fast! Take lots of vitamin C- i’ve heard this helps in the healing process of muscles (but if it’s something else, then i’m not sure how much it would help, but it can’t hurt!). https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Wow David, i really enjoyed reading that! that dream sounds like it’s full of meanings (to me at least)! the subconscious mind really has a strange way of expressing itself. But it’s nice when you can remember details like that in such a complex dream.. thanks for sharing it!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
Charley- i woke up before my dream finished (i hate when that happens, but in this case it was a relief!).. so the aliens didn’t get a chance to "get us", & i did manage to escape from this one monstrous guy. LOL!
And that’s so funny about Joel chair dancing!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gifVerucablue- hahaha!

I too enjoy the dancey side of pole more than the "fitness" side, but i still like seeing "non-pretty" strength moves in a dance. For me, if it’s impressive strength wise, i like seeing it done, even if it’s not dancey, as long as the performance in general is dance-based. I actually enjoy it the most when the dancer is doing her dance flow, & then just bam, busts out a power move too! Funny how different we all are, huh. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Hi & welcome to the site! this definitely is a great site for encouragement! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

You might think i’m crazy, but i don’t care much for the bow/bridge. I can see that it’s pretty, but it kinda bores me in a weird way. The only time i like it a bit more is when the dancer has a really flexible back, or done with bent knees (or ideally, both). This move to me is mostly just a display of one’s flexibility. lol, please don’t hate me!

MemberApril 3, 2010 at 8:06 pm in reply to: Hip hold…now that I have it, what do I do with it?I think the easiest way to get out of it is to just re-hook your leg back into gemini, and it’s pretty hard not to do it gracefully since it’s so simple! you can also hook into scorpio, or go into bomb (bending legs & tucking knees to chest) before re-hooking one of your legs. OR you can start trying to drop into the bomb- it’s so fun!!
And congrats on the move!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif -
Thanks for replying! Fleur & Charley, yes you were nice, lol! although the one with charley was actually a nightmare, but we were both helping each other escape from the bad guys https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif .
Trena- yeah i agree that’s probably why i saw you, cuz in my dream you were visiting me!
Georgiamarie- LMFAO!!!! I’ve had one of dreams too , where i saw people i had even forgotten about, but i doubt it was as crazy as yours! haha peekaboo poles in the toy aisle. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif -
Pole skivvies just posted an article/interview about a pole dance group for women over 50.. if you haven’t already, check it out, even if you’re younger than 50! The women in the pictures really are amazing! Gives us hope & inspiration & goes to show that age doesn’t have to be such an obstacle if we choose it not to be!

There was another thread about her somewhere.. but i can’t remember if there was any more info about her though.
It’s funny that you mentioned that move cuz i just started working on that in my last practice! Danielle makes it look so easy, but you gotta really swing yourself around with momentum (i do, anyway). I banged my foot on the pole doing it too, LOL. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif -
-
While picking up momentum for a spin, (by extending the outside leg out wide to circle it around pole), i smashed my foot into the wall, because i didn’t estimate correctly where i should start extending so as not to hit it!! Result was that i injured a couple of foot/toe bones, which took about 8 months to heal!
LESSON: be careful using this momentum technique if poles are close to walls, furniture, or to other poles! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif -
Yay congrats! make sure to get the next one on cam!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Haha Roxy i do most of those too! especially gotta have a nice outfit on https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif but i always watch my vids after i’m done- stopping in the middle of your practice just wastes time. LMAO Veena- you’re too funny!!!!

I loved watching these! unfortunately i lost all my first video recordings to a deadly virus that my laptop got, but i did manage to save my first edited video (which i posted on YT & here). I had been poling 8 weeks.
Here it is:

Fun post Mili! Here are mine:
Before i start, i absolutely must vacuum & mop the floor, clean up the living room, & wash all dishes in the sink. Then i move all the furniture out of the way. Ok the next one is bad, please don’t yell at me, but as i wait for the floor to dry, i smoke a cigarette, as i know i won’t have one for a long while after i’m done practicing. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif I smoke it while drinking my homemade probiotic drink (hey, at least that’s healthy!)& being on my laptop. Then i make sure i have all my pole necessities- a huge glass with a big pitcher of water, my towels, windex, music, camera (& books that i prop it on), go get the mirror, the fan (in the summer), hair scrunchie must be within reach, & most importantly, my chapstick. I just can’t pole without my cherry chapstick!I’m obsessed with my warmups- actually, i’m obsessive-compulsive about them: lunges, squats, hip circles, waist twists, back, neck, wrists, etc & i do everything you can possibly do with your shoulders. Then on to dance a bit for cardio (usually one song). Then light stretching. Then i MUST dance a full song with just spins, & maybe a small climb before i feel like my warmup is complete. I know all this unnecessary, but i can’t help it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
My worst habit while poling is wiping my hands on my butt. It’s become instinctive now. For some reason, i find that my hands get extra sweaty when i do the superman, and i have to wipe both of them on my shorts really well if i am to attempt to proceed to figure-head to aerial shouldermount. Actually, it seems like lately my hands have been more sweaty in general, although i’m not sure if they really have, or if i’m just noticing it more now. I really should get some grip aid! I also tend to sweat on my face (eeeww), and i’ve developed the habit of excessively wiping my face with a towel, even when i don’t really need to. If i misplace my scrunchie or my chapstick in the middle of my session & can’t find them, i go completely crazy. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif
When i’m done, i must stretch, (sometimes i accidentally overstretch), clean up, & put everything back into place.I bet my long preparation for poling & long warmups are the main reasons why i only pole about twice a week. *sigh*

Call me biased (BIASED!) but I’m kinda surprised no one has said more about Amber’s routine! I know she will post a version so everyone will see.
Maybe i’m biased too, but i’m more curious about Fleur’s performance than anyone else’s.. maybe because she’s always been one of my top faves since i started poling. Not that i don’t absolutely love all the others, but i guess i just always had a little "weak spot" for Fleur & her personal style. I can’t wait to see her routine, and any footage that everyone there may have gotten on everyone else’s performance! Congrats to the winners & to all the contestants!!

Happy one year Jungle Cat!! you already know how i feel about you (plus just told you in your 3week vid), so i’m not gonna bore you with my mushiness again, but i am gonna tell you again that I’m so happy i got to know you this past year (& meet you!), & it’s really so great to have you in our pole community- it just wouldn’t be the same without you!!
We all love you!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/bom.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/bom.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/bom.gif -
If you’re talking about the inverted crucifix, also make sure that your ankles are on either side of the pole, so that the pole is BETWEEN your two ankles. Many people at first don’t realize this, and they tend to put both feet on the same side of the pole, causing them to have less grip (as you can’t squeeze the pole as well between your legs this way).
For gemini, you have to really get the pole in your knee pit, and try to get your foot pointing down towards the floor for the best lock/grip.
Always try letting go of one hand first, to test your stability before attempting to let go of both, & i agree with trying from the floor first, to be safer! Hope this helps a bit!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif -

MemberMarch 16, 2010 at 6:04 pm in reply to: Reverse SM/SM dismount…whatever you wanna call itI love this move too!!!!
I’m no expert, but here’s a tip: if you slide your feet down towards your head before removing them from the pole (so that hips are further from pole), it’ll get the pressure off your collarbone! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif -
Oh! lol sorry if i confused everyone. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif i love that move! if it’s the one i’m thinking of now, i see it often done right after clock legs. umm yeah, can’t help with that one. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif
