Ok please do not chastise me for what Im gonna tell you cause Im already mad with myself!!! I was a silly girl on Friday night 2 weeks ago! I’ll start from the start. I was involved in a musical production and we had been running it all week and Fri night we were all full of energy cause it was the weekend! When the show was over we all went to the pub for a ‘few’ drinks!!! We all got a little drunk!!! At the end of the night a few of my friends decided they wanted to come to my house afterwards!!! We got to my house and OF COURSE my friends, some of whom have never seen my pole, asked could they see it! I showed it to them and they asked me to do some tricks. I was knowingly drunk so I decided, without telling, them that I would just do some just spins! They were amazed and loved it! BUT that wasnt enough!!! The girls who have seen me doing tricks insisted that I do some!!! Well I did!!! Yeah Im a show off! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif Then when I decided I had enough, as a last little shocker to them I bloody well climbed the pole, did my thing and then…dropped into the splits!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif Obviously I was NOT warmed up enough and now I think Ive done damage!!! I didnt feel much at the time (the copious amounts of alcohol helped), just a little strain. Anyway the party went on for another little while and then we all got tired so naturally we all went to bed (not together, it wasnt that kind of party https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif ) So yeah I went to bed, not feeling any different really!
WELL…next morning I was in pain!!! I could barely walk! But as the day went on I felt better and better but still not fantastic either!! We had to do the show again that night and there were a few can-can kicks and I could barely do them! And here I am almost 2 weeks later and its still giving me trouble! I cant invert because I feel a strain at the top of the back of my upper thigh! I cant even extend a lot in my spins! Somebody help me! I want to fix this!! Its really holding me back! Ive already been off the pole for long enough cause the show was taking up ALL my time!! What can I do???

Ouchie! Sounds like maybe you strained or tore the tendon in your hamstring (connecting the muscle to pelvis)…or possibly pulled the muscle…
I’ve done the same thing somehow a month ago, honestly cant remember how, but i have some kind of tendonitis in my hamstring, and I went to see the physiotherapist.
yesterday I had my first sports massage/acupuncture treatment and it was amazing!! i felt like i had brand new pair of legs. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif So i recommend seeing a physio…getting their advice.

I probably wouldnt do any resistance stretching or splits stretching for at least 2 weeks, just take it easy and do a very lite stretching throughout the day (no straining, stop if you feel pain)
    maybe stretch the quads instead…

Good luck, hope you feel better soon!
    and dont worry…..we’ve all done it….. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
and some of us just have to learn the hard way…

    Ouch girl!

I’m picturing that drop and that poor tight cold muscle just pulling away. Bad Trena! Bad bad Trena! LOL

Have you tried heat on it? It sounds like something you might just need to give time to heal or as suggested above, see somebody who can do something about it. Acupuncture sounds like a good idea https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Eeeeeep I hope you haven’t torn your hammies! That hurts for a LONG LONG time. According to 2nd hand experience.

Check out these links and see if any of it sounds like you:

Trena you poor thing!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif I know how you feel because i just keep on straining my hip flexors, & they’re always holding me back! I really don’t know enough about this to add anything to what the others said, but one thing i do know is that you definitely should not do anything to irritate it more! I’ve noticed from my own experience that whenever i use my injured muscles in my workouts, they just get worse. They definitely need some rest in order to heal, & it’ll be worth it in the long run! I hope your poor little hamstring heals really really fast! Take lots of vitamin C- i’ve heard this helps in the healing process of muscles (but if it’s something else, then i’m not sure how much it would help, but it can’t hurt!). https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I agree with Stephanie Trena, your best bet is to go and see a physio. I had pulled something in/near my hip flexor trying to do an allegra when all my muscles were cold, and I was in intermittent pain for a couple of weeks. When I finally went to see a physio, he didn’t even touch around my hip flexor, he dug his fingers under my hip bone in my stomach (yeah, WTF, right?), but yet it really helped loosen it up. It could very well be that the opposing, or supporting muscles/ligaments/joints are what the issue is with your injury, which is something only a physio will know how to treat. Trust me, its worth the € https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

    OMG!! No, drunk Trena!!! Noooooooo!!!

It’s funny I heard almost the exact same story from a girl I met at a pole jam in the UK. Drunk and demonstrating pole tricks for friends.. dropping into a split from a height… no immediate pain until AGONY the next day… torn hamstrings! Hopefully the last part is not you!!

Get yourself to a Physio, and I hope it’s all ok! Best of luck xxx

y’know, now that I think about it, I can count at least 3 other people I know that have torn or damaged hammies and other muscles when doing that drop into splits (the rest of them weren’t drunk either, so maybe it was less the drunk and more the cold muscles that did it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif )

That shizzle is dangerous, I do believe I will now be staying away from any drops into flexi-type moves lest I damage even more of my poor overworked body https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_blackeye.gif

DAMMIT!!!! I guess the only thing for it then is to go to a darn physio!!! Irish people: what do u reckon it’ll cost??? It’s driving me crazy!! I work with kids so sometimes I have to sit on the floor to do jigsaws with them and I can’t do something as simple as leaning forward while sitting with my legs crossed at the ankles without feeling discomfort!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

You know, even without attempting a drop into a split move – I totally know my limitations there.. although having said that I’ve never been unleashed on a pole when drunk!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cyclops_ani.gif – I’ve managed to damage my hamstrings. What I did – as I’ve definitely been moaning about to both Trena and Polegrrrrl previously – was some PNF-style / contract-relax (whatever you want to call it) stretching for my straddle splits and I guess I overdid it or something. Oh yeh and I popped my hip before when trying to do the other kind of splits. But my hamstrings are now damaged too. Trena, I should practice what I preach and get to the Physio also!!

Physio is expensive in our fair isle, for sure! I’m guesstimating about 50 uri gellers per consultation? Well that was what I paid when I used to go regularly to get my back cracked by a physio about a year ago – another pole-related unpleasantry!! And its possible you could need a few (consultations that is!!), but hopefully not, and hopefully they will tell you that your hamstrings are in fact not torn, and all you have to do is rest for a little while, or they might massage your injury and it might be much better afterwards! Then it would be a huge relief!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif

Hope it’s all ok Trena https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif And you’ll be back to … https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_DJ.gif in no time!!!

Back to DJ-ing?!! We need a pole dancing emoticon here!!!

Yeah I paid 50 euro for the physio last week, though that was kind of mates rates, I would expect that it may be a little cheaper further out from Dublin?

oh no Trena!! While I do agree that you should get it checked out you should also do some at home healing too!! Soak in some epsom salts, take plenty of arnica and I’ve found that light stretching really helps me when I’ve pulled something. Now a hammie pull is very painful and can take a LONG time to heal…I know! So take it easy on it too! I hope you get to feeling better soon!!

Oh no https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif I hope your feeling a bit better now…once its no longer really painful you can try massaging the hamstring by using a tennis ball. Massage can help make scar tissue more pliable, if you did tear something you will have to be aware of scar tissue and be careful not to re-injure the same area. Feel better soon https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
