awwwww thanks to my dad, not me! i’m sure he’ll be happy to know he was of some help! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

haha veena, "you only have nine lives!". i really don’t know much about joists, since in greece we usually have full concrete ceilings without joists (earth-quake proof too!).
But i remember my dad (who does live in the US with joist ceilings) telling me that if i were to put the pole on a joisted ceiling, that it would be better to place it in the middle of one joist, rather than in between two (just in case the joists are too far apart- then the ceiling piece won’t be steady if it’s right in the space between them, without being under them at all). He does have some construction experience, but don’t quote me on this.. i’d call the x-pole technical support and ask them for the best advice about this- they’re usually really helpful and polite. -
I don’t know if this will help, but veena has an posted something about this under the Articles section!

OMG that is sooo crazy! i guess fate was on your side! i’m soooo glad you’re ok though! i have never ever ever ever heard of that happening to an x-pole before! i think maybe you should tighten the adjuster a bit more on the ceiling, and make sure all the pieces are tight as well. My boyfriend is 6’3 and 175 pounds (not that heavy, but still!) and he spins around and does inverts and the pole doesn’t budge! I bet Veena would know more about this.. but that really shouldn’t be happening, i know that x-pole can handle weight much much more than your own! please make sure you’ve read the instructions on how to assemble it correctly- although i’m sure you have (you’re a librarian, https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif )! just don’t want you to get hurt, you were sooo lucky! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/alien.gif

That really sucks about the studio not letting you record.. if you’re not showing routines they’ve created or other dancers, i don’t understand their reasons! But i’d definately take Veena’s advice! We’ve all heard so many bad stories about cheap poles! the carmen electra pole also claims to be professional, but look at how easily they just crash! you can also tell by the way that the poleaerobics pole assembles (i saw it on their vid) that it is extremely poor quality! it’s really a waste of money and most importantly its dangerous, especially for an advanced pole dancer like yourself.. don’t risk it!! xxx

YAAAAYYYYY Trena!!!!!! i got so excited reading your post, i spilled wine on my laptop! OMG as soon as you’re rested you HAVE to post a vid of your new moves!!! i’m so proud of you for the superman! i do that too, when i first get a move, i do it over and over and over till i collapse, lol! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_viking.gif
and that’s awesome about the knee-hold! even doing it with one arm on the pole is hard enough, that’s how i started doing it too! Congrats on the bow and arrow too- yay yay yay!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cyclops.gif
and no, of course you don’t come off as bragging, we all love sharing our accomplishments and hearing about others’ accomplishments as well! thanks for sharing this with us!!! can’t wait to see your next vid! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

hi novadog! i’m going to assume your talking about the dismount where the body position is similar to the superman move, or like doing a push up.
Do you do this with both legs straight or one bent upwards? i find it easier to have one leg bent upward, so that way you’re not squeezing your thighs together so much as you slide down. if doing it with both legs straight, crossing your ankles would also make for more friction against the pole. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif
Also, try to rely more on upper body strength for controlling the dismount than on your thighs. i also find it easier to do it with my palms on the floor, rather than resting on my forearms (i’ve seen some people do it that way).
Don’t forget that everyone has different skin sensitivity and some are more easily irritated by friction than others, but practice usually builds resistance! But i’d take a break for the skin to heal before trying again.
Hope this was a bit helpful (and that this is the move you’re talkin about!) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif -
awwwww you’re such a sweet and thoughtful person! and funny (crooked wig wearing!!! LOL) your post seriously put a huge smile on my face. Poling is a beautiful art, but definately not easy! but when you accomplish a move that seems literally IMPOSSIBLE at first, it makes it all worth the pain and struggle! I too wish you the best, and we’re all here to help eachother.. can’t wait to see a vid from you!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_farao.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_queen.gif

Which side of the pole are you inverting from? It sounds like maybe you’re inverting with the pole to your left. If your strong arm is your right arm, it should be easier to invert with the pole to your right, and left arm over the right arm. So once you’re inverted, all you have to do is leave the top arm (the left) where it is, and just move your right arm further down. Hope that makes sense! and don’t worry about the extended butterfly, that will come with time as you gain strength! let us know how you do! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

awwww trena i just saw your post!! i’ve had some bad practice days myself, where i can’t do half the stuff i normally do. i agree with you and jungle cat that you should take a couple days off so your wrist can get better.. if you think i can be of any help for any of those moves let me know! but i’m sure you’ll do much better once your wrist heals! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

i hope you get the ok for the floor moves vids- those were helpful.. i would think that those videos are related to pole-dancing (even more so than the lapdance ones), since you don’t always have a guy present while pole-dancing, but you always do have the floor!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

yeah it does sound like the flatline scorpio, and i think it’s easier to get into it from an extended butterfly (for me at least). i could try to make you a video, but i haven’t really perfected this move yet!

so weird, i could’ve sworn i posted a reply to this last night! anyways, thanks sascha!!
Pole-twista- i found the tips that lola and branquinha gave to be very helpful, like doing a high caterpillar and the magic finger (lol that sounds funny). Also, don’t forget your advice about rubbing your skin with hot water ( i did this when i felt like arm was too dry to get a good grip). And make sure to try both the forearm and the elbow grip, and alternate which arm you use on top or bottom so you can find which comb. of arm and grip is most secure for you. Good luck, and im sure you’ll get it if you keep at it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/alien.gif
