MemberSeptember 10, 2012 at 11:34 pm in reply to: which grip aid for really sweaty hands?I currently don't use any grip aids but I sweat REALLY easily. I use rubbing alcohol to wipe down my pole and hands but I have to wipe my pole and hands after nearly every move and sometimes even after just holding my pole with a hand. So, I clearly need to figure something out. I also have to wipe off my shoulders before I any shoulder mount or SM prep work because my back sweats too (ew, I know).
Joel from Mighty Grip actually told me about this new organic product that is supposed to take care of excessive persperation. Their website is http://www.dirtygirlpoletice.com. It's not widely available yet, as it is so new, but it might be something to keep in mind!

Australia gets a bunch of cool stuff from XPole… like a 42mm and a titanium silver!

My dad still won't let me pole in the house though https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif he's paranoid about wrecking the ceiling. Someday I'll have a pole space where I can just leave my pretty pole up all the time!

Ahahaha Wild Lotus, that was pretty clever 🙂

I poled on a 50mm only a few times before selling it because my hands arejust too small! I love that I can hold my new 45mm, and someday I will get a 38 or 40mm — it'll be love at first grip, I already know it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

I don't wear any jewelry when I pole. I don't want to scratch my beloved pole, pinch my skin, pull out an earring, etc. I even have a pair of swim bottoms (I wear bikini bottoms when I pole; I don't have to bother with them riding up!) I refuse to wear when poling because they have a little decoration on the hip that I don't want scratching my pole. The only exception is my navel jewelry because it's still healing and it doesn't bother me at all while poling!

Otherwise prior to that I felt like I was only a wannabe pole dancer (I only knew one spin a friend taught me at a club and had only taken one actual class).
There has been some “you know you’re a pole dancer if…” talk lately and, while funny, it’s also kind of true 🙂

Ohhh yes I totally understand that. I pole in my garage too, so if anyone does know of a hard copy I'd be interested in that too!

What about poledancedictionary.com ?

If you're feeling a little behind the other students in class, perhaps you could invest in your own pole and some of Veena's lessons? She will start you right at the beginning of strength training that will be essential throughout your pole journey. Plus, with your own pole you can practice at home if/when you go back to studio lessons!
Just remember we were all new and lacked strength and felt awkward on the pole at some point! Even those instructors https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I would probably call X-Pole and ask about the extension. The ceiling where I set up my pole is 9ft-1in approximately, and I got a 500mm extension. Sounds like if you have carpet you may want to get the extension because the pole (when installed properly) will compress the carpet and make the total height greater than 9ft.
A stud finder should work on popcorn ceilings. Instead of sliding the stud finder across the ceiling, perhaps you could try placing it against the ceiling, pulling it just slightly away, and then moving it? Otherwise if you do scrape some "popcorn" texture off the ceiling, it's an easy fix! Hardware stores have spray-on texture in a can.

I'm not a doctor but I've heard Vitamin A. lean protein, minimizing sun exposure (particularly its damaging UV rays) and making sure skin is adequately moisturized can help strengthen & protect the skin, but if you're really concerned perhaps you should ask a doctor about it? This sounds painful https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif best of luck to you! Keep us updated!

Boobs are really just strategically placed lumps of fat, so I think it's perfectly normal to lose a little of that fat too! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Years ago when I started figure skating I lost 20-30 pounds and went from between an A/B to a small A (but I love my little boobies; if it's too hot in the summer I can just go braless!).
I would assume that perhaps building some strength in one's pectoral muscles would increase perkiness, just like working glutes can add some booty. Just a thought.

This is probably how I will feel about underarm grips someday… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

I know gymnasts and weight lifters use them, but to me it really just looks like a piece of fabric wrapped around one's wrist. How do wrist wraps work?
-
CrystalRockstar, I'm not sure what push button you're referring to (if you could post a picture that'd be great) but the top adapter is shaped like a skinny rod on one end (which goes into the dome) and about as thick as the pole on the other end (which goes into the top pole piece / extension). It shouldn't be slipping out as it fits right into these two pieces and there's really no way for it to come out with pressure.

Those wrenches pictured make me believe it's not a legitimate X-Pole. From what I know about X-Poles (I have purchased new ones but not the old style ones), the only tools that come with the pole are 2 different size hex keys
If it's still safe, then great! But be careful!

Just a word of advice: a boyfriend who is controlling and doesn't want you to get attention from other guys likely has some self-esteem issues as well. He should want you to shine the way you deserve to. A friend of mine just left a boyfriend like this, whom she was dating for ~10 years, because he didn't like when she dressed a certain way as she is very attractive and would attract attention from other men and didn't like her going to the gym — God forbid another man might notice her or even talk to her.
I'm not in anyone else's situation so I can't possibly know everything, but I don't think anyone should have to feel restricted or feel constrained to someone else's "rules"

Nicolette, the measurements the piercer gave me were 1/4 teaspoon of noniodized sea salt with warm (but not uncomfortably hot!) water with 1/2 cup of water. I cut it in half and estimated about 1/8 teaspoon with 1/4 cup of water so I could pour it into a shot glass 🙂

My boyfriend was pretty unsure about it at first, until I showed him a video of Jenyne (same video I showed to my mom, actually) and it was an instant change of mindset. My boyfriend is incredibly supportive of me poling and shares in my excitement when I finally get a new move. I think if your man isn't going to let go of his hang ups in support what makes you happy, then you'll probably feel uncomfortable discussing / obsessing about (LOL!) pole around him and that really doesn't make for a good close realtionship, in my opinion.
Hopefully this is not the case, but if it is it only means there is someone out there who will appreciate the multi-dimensional sport pole is and at least love what makes you happy! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif best of luck! Everything will work out as it is supposed to!

That's a good point, Veena. And perhaps it's too much to expect a pole to be perfectly straight.
Should I be concerned that it doesn't spin smoothly though, even when it's not overtightened?
-
Only reason I am a little concerned about it is because I could've sworn when I put it up it was wobbling as it if it were slightly bowed, and when I put it on spin mode it was not spinning as smoothly as it should have been. However, I know it wasn't tightened because it slipped while I was on it (so glad it didn't fall down, but it still startled me!!)
Hopefully I'll get my pole up again tomorrow afternoon and I can double-check this. I hope it's not actually bowed (though I don't think my eyes were lying to me…) because I feel really silly for contacting X-Pole about this pole so many times. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif
-
That’s another thing I worry about. If my pole starts bowing someday I feel like X-Pole will just say it’s from improper use…
sensual, did you contact X-Pole about it? If so, what did they say? And can you still use the warped pole?
