Strenght is everything! Work on your strenght in your back and bum to be able to get into and hold the chest stand. Im sure YT has a lot to offer in that area 🙂

A good way to gain strenght is if you are getting help into the chest stand, try and roll down from it slowly and without any help.

Also be careful, if you are flexy but not strong enough to hold your weight you could hurt yourself.

    Good luck!

Yes, the abs can be hindering you in the back bends, you have to stretch them like everything else. A low cobra pose with focus on the abs is great, do it after each pole session and workout that works the abs.

ammivo: well said! If done right cold stretch isn't bad or harmful, but you have to be careful and really listen to you body. during stretch classes at my studio we always do leg stretches cold and that has helped me immensely and no one has gotten hurt 🙂

Everyone is different, some must stretch every day and some less. My stretch teacher recommends low impact stretching each day where you don't push or go to your limits, I usually do that in the morning while eating breakfast. The harder, "I'm gonna faint soon", stretches she recommends to be limited to once or twice a week 🙂

Whatever works for you is what you should do, regardless what anyone else says.

Yes, it is normal to be bad at flexy stuff when not warmed up, when you warm ut you prepare the muscles for stretching and you can go deeper. If you want to be able to do the splits cold you need to work on your oversplits and also do a lot of cold stretching, very carefully of course!

My middle split is awful when I'm cold but not that bad when warm 🙂

I know just what you mean, I point my feet all the time but it barely shows 🙁 You just have to keep on trying! 🙂

I think you did a great job, lots of interesting combos and a nice mix of power moves and more mellow stuff.

The one thing that will lift the performance is if you point your feet when climbing, doing CAR, in inverted crusifix, whenever you can! I have problems with that too, but it gives so much to point your feet 🙂

That were a lot of stretches, you are very ambitious! 🙂 Yay!

Well, I see that you do lounges, that is for the hip flexor. Does it feel the same when you do the lounges as when you get "stuck" in the splits? You are supposed to get a kind of burning feel in the hip flexors when you stretch them.

The pigeon is good for the hips if you are not stiff in the glutes, I use pigeon for glutes but they are super stiff for me 🙂

If it is your hip flexor that is stopping you then you need to stretch it more 🙂 The hip flexor is a muscle, or rather a group of muscles, and they need to get stretched as well to achieve the splits, especially if you want to have splits with square hips.

What kind of exercises do you do?

Shellectra: I feel just the same. I can get into position, but the moment I start to release my leg my hand slips and I fall… Very annoying, I have tried everything!

I didn't know she had been in cirque before, we don't get many visits from them here in the north, unfortunally 🙁

I would love to see them if they come here, but I agree with chemgoddess1, the prices are outrageous!

The debate about stretching cold or can go on forever, but I agree that if you are new to stretching you should keep to stretching warm to not to hurt yourself https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_viking.gif

And always listen to your body! Results can vary from one day to another, some days I am almost at a front split, others far from…

I didn't mean to critique you Veena, it is just that there are a lot of theories about stretching and you may have to try a few to find the one that works for you.

I am fortunate to be able to take stretch classes with a great and well-educated teacher so I follow her advise to gain better flexiness!

I'm 31 and started my flexy journey a year ago, almost to the day, and it is more than possible to gain flexibility at an older age!

Things to consider is that the muscles and muscle attachments get stiffer and more brittle with age and makes us more prone to injury if not careful. Pushing as one can do with a child is not for the more mature, we will break.

I don't agree with Veena about cold stretching or daily stretching as I stretch cold each morning 😉 The important thing is to find what suits you the best and be prepared that it will take time. I still barely have my front splits and my middle split is still far away.

I love my Diva cup, I have used it for a couple of years now. It did take some getting used to though and I had a few accidents when I did get it in right but now that never happens.

Mechie: doing a dry run is different from a real use. For one thing you are more moist during your period and that will help inserting and taking it out. I grab a hold of the base of the cup, push it together a bit and then pull out. At the end of my period it is more uncomfortable to take it out due to lack of natural lubricant.

I twist mine a bit after insertion but I hold the base of the cup. That will also be easier when you use it for real, more lube 🙂

Don't know about the stem, I have mine long and no discomfort. I know of ladies that has trimmed it with a razor close to the base, but that is only if you don't want any stem at all.

    Good luck!

No, but it is one of my biggest worries! Note to self, no more loose hair while poleing!

I'm in the progress of doing my first choreography and all these advice are really helpful!

I find it a bit difficult to watch routines on say YouTube because they are way more advanced than I am and then I feel discourage because I can't do half the stuff they do.

I have a song and have written down a lot of things I want to do, may add and/or subtract a few and also need to work on transitions but I feel it is a good start. I'll let you know how it goes 🙂

Being quite large in the breast area, UK 28G, finding bras is a hassle. Thankfully Change has opened in Stockholm and they have a few, but sadly I am used to wearing badly fitting support.

I have also discovered a new problem with stretching. We do Swan rockings to prepare for chest stand and well.. I have a bump in the road so to speak. Not comfortable at all to rock over my assets and I am a bit worried about trying the chest stand 🙂

I don't do yoga but I do a stretch routine every morning. I set the clock half an hour earlier than I would need and get into it. Takes 30-40 mins and is a great way to start the day.

As for a yoga routine, check the books and videos. Start with a little, just the Sun salutations a few times and then add more as you go along. If you do too much it is easy to get discourage. I started my morning stretch routine with only two stretches and 10 mins.

I hope you get into it! 🙂

I usually go commando under my shorts since my undies are bigger than my pole shorts https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cool.gif Looks kinda silly with them showing..

We've just started working on it in class and I am still at the "are my feet supposed to meet?" stage, along with horrid bruising.
