My hubby got an Invert on his first try. I’ve been working on one for MONTHS and still can’t do it. He gets up there and does it right away. I was so https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif

Though I’m very tempted to stop telling him when it’s in spinny mode.

I’ve got this image of sissy’s hubby of launching off the pole and flying off into the atmosphere. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

He almost did Jelly cat! I was fearing for his life ! LOL https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

    HI Maney,
I have the same problem you do! Jamie (thats the name of my belly) looks ok when upright. But when I sit down it all rolls together so I’ve always avoided sitting when it’s showing LOL. Now that I’m poling I have noticed the rolls when I invert and I am not happy with the way it looks.
What I have come to realize is…that’s me. It’s not flat, it’s not perfect, but that’s what I got and I gotta work with it.
I’m really into fitness and I’m always reading all of the fitness magazines with the ladies with the six packs and what not and I used to hold myself to that standard. I used to think that until I had the flat tummy of pretty much every woman on TV, I was fat. Eventually I came to relaize that’s not the case. That’s not average. Rolls and cellulite and fat…that’s average. Inperfect bodies. That’s average.
I know it’s hard (especially in pole when you watch video after video of model type women maneuvering a pole with such grace and sexy finesse) to look at our own selves and be satisfied. I think the problem is that women dont see enough women naked. All we see is what is shown to us (unless of course you’re gay lol) which is usually on television and in books and magazines. So we think that that is how it’s supposed to be but it’s not. Men see women naked and they know the truth. Thats why I can walk around with my belly out and my husband still wants me. He’s been with other women before LOL (lot”s actually) so he is not suprised by my rolls. It’s normal.
I’ll finish my ramble by saying once you learn to accept what you have and be proud of what you have and what you can do, you’ll feel more comfortable about it. Wear what feels good for now. Eventually you’ll realize that you’re amazing and a large majority of those chicks with flat bellys cant do half of what you can do. You’ll wear that sports bra because your tank top gets in the way of your Gemini. Like Amcut said, priorities wil come into play and your pride of your ability will over ride your self doubts. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I don’t know for sure, but from my own personal experience with weight training and poling (for a minimal amount of time) it takes several weeks to lose strength. I’ve stopped for a couple of months and only lost a litle bit of strength. I started back easy so I’ll never know for sure, but I dont think you’ll see much difference after just 2 weeks. Hopefully!

I saw that episode too Gelina and I meant to post about it LOL.

I was folding laundry watching and when the performance started and I saw that she had a pole on stage I was like "Sweet!". She went right up into an inverted crucifix and I was like "Go on girl!". Her back hook was good too. I wish I could have seen the whole performance to see if she did anything else on the pole.

    Welcome Nelly!

I chuckled when I saw how you first stumbled across pole dancing, LOL. Sounds like me!

Don’t feel bad for the peek-a-boo. I started out like that too. You already know it’s rep so just be careful.

Have fun and I can’t wait to see/hear/read more from you!

I don’t have a structured pole workout either. I warm up by stretching and dancing with some simple spins and excercises (like push-ups, lunges, pole ups and stuff). When I’m all warmed up I have a list of stuff to work on. I just check it out and do whichever move thats on there that I feel like doing and when I’ve had enough I try something else.

This gets repeated until I’m too tired to anything right, LOL. Then I call it a night. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

A little more info for all the ladies out there who are afraid of "bulking up" because of strength training:

From Physiology of Sport and Exercise, 4th ed. (an excellent book if you want to learn more about exercise physiology)

"For many years, strength gains were assumed to result directly from increases in muscle size (hypertrophy)…women experience similar, or even greater, percentage increases in strength compared with men who participate in the same training program, but women do not experience as much hypertrophy…neural factors make their greatest contribution during the first 8-10 weeks of training. Hypertrophy contributes little during the initial weeks of training…"

What I’m trying to say is you don’t need to worry that you will ever be as big as a man. Your muscles will probably gain strength and tone and a bit of size but they tend to hit a limit beyond which you will get stronger but not bigger. Personally, I saw my biggest change in muscle size in the first 3 months of pole dancing but after that I did not get bigger despite continuing to get stronger.

Also, don’t worry about building bulk if you are using a 15lb weights! That is not a heavy weight (despite it feeling heavy https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif )!

I’m sharing this information because I used to be afraid of this same thing until I learned a bit more about it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I hate when women bring up that looking like a man to me stuff LOL. The other day at the store I was chatting with the cashier as she was ringing up my stuff and she scans my muscle milk (I love that stuff!) then looks at me and says "Who drinks this? You?"

I say, "Yeah, it’s a good source of protein. I like to drink them after I lift weights".

She says "I lift weights too and my husband is always telling me I should try it. I tell him, No thanks. I don’t wanna look like a man."

I said. "Well I drink them all the time. If I start looking like a man, you let me know." https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

She quickly changed the subject after that. I am always telling ladies that they won’t look like one of those lady body builders you see on TV just from lifting heavy or adding extra protein to their diet. The best proof of this I can give them is myself, LOL. I like to think that I still look very feminine…..I do right?! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif LOL!!!!

I’ve been back in the gym now for about a month and I am able to lift and pole on the same days without a problem. I’m also back to running now (training for the Army ten miler in October) so I’m keeping very active and it feels good. I was ina real lul after my seperation ended and it feels good to be fit again.

    Thanks everyone https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I went to the pole party and I wanted to update on how it went.

Well we get there and I was late of course because it’s in DC and I HATE driving in DC so we were rushing and when walked in we got waivers shoved in our face and were rushed to strip down to our skivvies and try on shoes (you’re not allowed to wear your own shoes (Booo https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumbdown.gif ). You can buy them from the studio or rent them). The studio itself was basically a house with the first floor stripped of furniture and replaced with hardwood floor and mirrors. There was only room for 5 poles so we each had to pair up with a partner. Also my first time pole sharing LOL, but it makes for good interaction with other folks LOL. We got our shoes on and she warmed us up. the instructor was great, very proffesional and explained everything really well, although she was in the livingroom area and I was where the diningroom would be so I couldn’t see her very well LOL. We alternated turns learning moves. All basic stuff, which was the lvl 1 class that she teaches, but we did climb which they don’t teach until lvl 3 at the studio I usually go to, so that was different. We did a half- spin to a back hook, some snakes, dips and hip rolls (which I learned is really hard when you have to do a lot back to back. My butt cheeks were burning). When it was time to climb she busted out the grip aid. I usually stay away from grip aids because I don’t have sweaty hands and I don’t want to become dependent on them but I decided to give it a try and WOW!

I was like spiderman or whatever creature can climb walls LOL. I felt like I could do anything with that stuff! We climbed up and she had us do uprighted crucifixes. Then we did like a V but in a way I never have before….I usually do like veena teaches. The V-split hold.

But she had us stand in front of the pole. Put our right hand behind and up high on the pole and our left hand right up there with it so our hands are above our head. Then we lifted our feet up and back (like heels touching butt) then swung them up into a V, and hold it. That was pretty cool, I think I got a picture of it LOL.

and that was it for moves. After we learned all of that we combined it all for a pretty undancy dance routine LOL. She says on her website that it’s pole fitness and "NOT" pole dance…whatever that means https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif. I think it’s based more on fitness then dancing. Which is cool, I suppose. It makes for a good workout. But I like dancing! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif

After the 1 1/2 class was over we were allowed to fool around and take pictures. I got some shots of my plank and chopper (for you guys of course https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif ) and everyone at the party was in awe of me LOL. Damn I love newbies, because to them I’m great! LOL…little do they know. At the end of the class she gives out certificates (which I thought was cute) and I won the "Quit your day job" award. Sweet! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif

All in all I had a good time. I was in good company. The class itself was a bit boring because it was all really beginner stuff that I knew already but it was fun to watch others have so much fun and to see my friends tell me that now they see what I’ve been talking about and that it is a real workout. It would have been cool if she had asked if anyone had experience and maybe gave those people alternate moves to do. Then it would have been more exciting for me, but I still had a good time.
