    Okay, here’s mine!

    To Whom it may concern,

My name is _____________, and I would like to place a complaint in reference to order number 0010544613 for Christopher Brand. As a fellow pole dancer and student of this man’s wife, I am enraged that your company would not customize this purchase per request. He was simply trying to order your product as a birthday gift for her.

All things considered, I think your corporation is a bunch of hypocritical morons only concerned about profit on the larger scale. I don’t believe you care about your customers or about "children seeing provocative imagery" at all! Which, by the way, pole dancing is not stripping and is also not nearly as provocative as your lousy stripping candy advertisements. Please be aware of what commercials you are airing on television for all the world to see before your company tries to play that trump card.

I understand how advertising works and I am very disappointed to say that M&M’s have been relying on "sex sells" more than "family appeal" for years now. Such is the way of business, I understand that too. Although, perhaps your corporation can understand this:

I am not buying M&M’s ever again. My family and friends have vowed to never purchase M&M’s either. My friend’s families, their friends, and theirs, etc.

Besides all that I think that this company has been getting too big of a head on it’s shoulders for quite some time. I haven’t seen one M&M’s commercial that made me smile or laugh or want to purchase your candy since Santa fainted in 1996. It has pretty much been about the sex-appeal of the green M&M and stupid pop-culture nonsense for the past fourteen years now. (Stephen Baldwin?)

Your prices for this crap candy are phenomenal too, and I’m sure it is raking in phenomenal sales. Don’t expect it to last; the customers you keep are only buying because they are thriving on nostagia. The "good ol’ days" of when M&M’s really were a quality family product at a fair price and not just another overrated pop-icon.

I never knew chocolate could go stale, let alone rot!

    Sincerely,

    ________________

@ Trena…Thank you! Let me assure you, though, my points are expressed much clearer in type than I am able to speak in real life. It’s how I really think and feel about this subject, but I wish I had that sharp of a tongue when it comes to in-person debates. LOL

Spin and static are two COMPLETELY different things. I dance on both and I can honestly say that neither setting is less or more difficult that the other…just different. There are certain moves that may be easier on one versus the other (i.e. I couldn’t do the teddy on static at first, a couple of weeks later I switched to spin-mode just to give it a shot and got it pretty much on the first try. Also, I could not get the superman on spin, but static worked out just fine. Now I am capable of doing both these moves on either setting pretty much equally…go figure, lol!)

Basically, what I think it all comes down to is that people need to RESPECT THE POLE regardless of what their own preference is. Personally I don’t like using brass poles, but some people love ’em. Some people hate chrome, but it’s my favorite finish. I know of people who hate X-poles, I know of people who hate PS, I know of people who hate Li’l Mynx. We all know that the Electra and Peek-a-boo can be hazardous, but I’ve seen videos of chicks who FREAKIN’ ROCK on those poles and then people just leave comments like "Your pole sucks." WHO CARES what pole she’s using, you know? I’m sure she’s already aware that it’s not the top o’ the line, but that’s what she has to work with and she knows how to WORK IT! Give the girl some credit for her skill, you know?

Anyway, I digress, but I really hate when one poler tries to discredit another poler’s abilities w/ such frivolous pretenses as "Well, I only use static because spin-mode is cheating." or "Nice moves, too bad your pole sucks." and "Chrome is nice, but you gotta be tough to use brass…ever try it?" Not that any of these comments are truly tear-your-head-off mean, but it’s sooo catty. A lot of the time when I see a comment like that the first thing I think to myself is "WOW…jealous much?" because that’s what it really boils down to. People see that you are awesome on spin, or that you are awesome even on a cheaper pole (and they still can’t do much even though they paid $300+ for their pole, lol), or maybe you swear by a certain finish or even diameter and then they kinda roll their eyes like "Oh, that’s why, because it’s easier.". Yeah, it is easier, isn’t it? It’s easier to talk down to somebody and try to discredit their abilities than it is to get off your cloud and just say "Wow, I wish I were as good as you are on ______. Maybe I should practice more." LOL

July 27, 2010 at 8:03 am in reply to: Can a complete beginner learn on an X-Stage?

I’ll try and keep this brief, I’m the type that usually goes on for paragraphs about this kinda subject. lol

The only pole I own is an X-Stage. I started out on it, I have continued to learn on it, and I whole-heartily recommend it if you are looking for a free-standing pole. As a beginner, though, and as a primary pole it is not the greatest of options.

    1. For one thing, my pole had to be modified in order to fit in my little pole room. The height of the platform took up the exact amount of usable pole I could’ve had, but…*sigh* oh, well…there’s always extensions if I ever need ’em. From what I hear they are coming out with an X-Stage Lite in October which will have a lower base.

    2. X-Stage is not floor-work friendly. Although the platform of the X-Stage is bigger than that of any other free-standing pole I have seen, when it comes to floorwork, you can never have enough space. The metal plates are also very hard on the knees btw, lol.

    3. It is a quality free-standing pole but, dang, it is EXPENSIIIIIIVE!!!

There are a lot of pros and cons to starting out on a free-standing pole as opposed to a standard removable pole, but I would be here all night typing this if I gave it too much thought. LOL I will answer any questions you may have if I am able to, though. I also have videos documenting my X-Stage pole journey from beginning to present on this site and on YouTube if you are interested to see what the stage is capable of.

    http://www.youtube.com/user/SerziQ

Oh, and one really big benefit of owning an X-Stage is that you can take it just about anywhere. Recently we used it for the MDPD showcase and I had both Veena and Karol Helms dance on my pole! lol It’s great for outdoor pole-jams and is a very durable, compact set-up to transport.

Still, I really wish I could have a standard removable pole for at home so that I could get the full benefit of my ceiling height and use the floor instead of that tiny platform. My hubby says "NO WAY." because it may ruin our stupid vaulted ceiling and then we’d be paying for a new roof, so he’s working on making me a custom free-standing pole that will not require a raised platform. Don’t know how long it’s gonna take, but I’m to a point where I’m ready to buy a removable pole and donate it to a studio so long as I can use it whenever I have time to come down there. LOL

Hope this info helps you reach a decision with your purchase.

This may have already been mentioned or done before, but how about "Request a song"-challenge? We could pick songs to challenge our fellow Veeners based on their individual style and our own thoughts of "Hey, I would LOOOOVEEEE to see her dance to this!" As you can tell, I’ve already got some idea of who I would like to dance to what and have been looking for an opportunity to call her out on this type of challenge, muahahahaha!

What an awesome idea! I have a metallic sharpee that would look great on the black stage!

That would look really sweet! Though, I’m kinda worried about the autographs wearing away over time from cleaning agents and dancing on them all the time. I suppose ya’ll could autograph the leg-base but that wouldn’t be any fun! *SIGH* I don’t know what I should do to preserve them, I want these babies to last forever!!!

I’ve gotten word that Karol’s best friend Star may be attending too! I hope so, I would soooo love to meet her! After all, she and Karol’s videos on YouTube were what got me into poling in the first place. Maybe if we’re really nice we can talk her and Karol into showing us some sweet double moves, ya think? AHHHHHHH!!! I’m so excited, I can’t wait! Actually…freeze everything…I need to work on my damn routine some more. Only eleven days left!

June 28, 2010 at 7:54 am in reply to: What are your Fav POLE SHOES!?!

I have 6 1/2" Pleaser Adore chrome-style heels w/ ankle straps, I forget the exact model #. I LOVE these shoes, they are perfect in every way! For being big platform spike-heels they are amazingly comfortable and, although it took me a few days to get used to them while on the pole, they are surprisingly easy to maneuver and walk in. My only prob is that I’m already too tall for my little pole-room, so I have be extra careful inverting when I wear my Pleasers so that I don’t scrape the ceiling. lol

I also have a pair of chunky 4" heel knee-high boots by T.U.K that are not exactly made for dancing, but they are my favorite shoes to wear while on my pole. I don’t know why people say that matte boots don’t stick because mine do! Granted I am sure that shiny vinyl boots stick much better, but I really don’t like to stick too much…it makes noises and inhibits my momentum. Although my boots were purchased at Hot Topics and were intended only for fashion, I’ve found they are highly functional with climbs, holds, spins and inverts. The only problem is the metal eyelets create tiny superficial scratches on the chrome finish of my pole, so I only use them in moderation and will probably retire them from the pole entirely when I can afford a pair of Pleaser Electra’s.

I have a ton of fashion cheapies I’ve bought on clearance at a variety of stores and I don’t recommend them for poling, lol. Although I do have a pair of magenta colored vinyl wedges that only cost me $5 that are highly effective in learning new moves while wearing heels. They are my "training heels" and they are designed in such a way that I can climb for hours without getting bruises or blisters on my feet, but I don’t really like how they look on me. They also scuff like no tomorrow and make squeaking noises (vinyl against pole, Eeeesh, how I hate that sound!), but as for learning how to work it in heels without getting sore and battered there is no better choice.

As for where to purchase quality pole-shoes from, I buy from snaz75.com. They are fast, reliable, and have a wide selection from Pleaser, Demonia and also have a lot more cool stuff for poling other than just shoes! Beware, though, once you start buying this stuff it becomes very addicting. I am ALWAYS broke because I spend all of my money on pole-related activities and accessories. If you already do this too, well, more power to you fellow pole-junkie!

I own an X-Stage (predating the X-joint version). It’s the only pole I have and, to be honest, it has served me quite well. I have never had any problems taking it apart and setting it up (in fact, I found out that I can take it apart and set it up again in under thirty minutes!); my carrying cases are still like new even though I’ve had to move them quite a lot in the passed year; spin-mode is like heaven, it is so smooth and comfortable; above all, this set-up is amazingly stable! What someone else said is right, you do not have to extend the legs if you are worried about tripping over them but they are a nice option for added stability. There are also places to put weights under the platform if you are still concerned about stability, although I’ve never had to use them. The chrome finish has been a dream to pole on, I officially prefer it to any other finish I have had the opportunity to use (regular stainless, acrylic, and brass).

There are, however, a few things that I do not like about my X-Stage. For one, the carrying cases for the stage-plates are designed in a way that makes them difficult to lift and carry when the plates are in them but that’s just a minor gripe. I do not like how using a stage limits my ability to do floor-work and forces me to be more cautious when landing from an invert or practicing a new move. When I wear heels the metal platform makes very loud clunking echoes as I walk, but I just crank my music up louder. My pole has some sway at the top and it took me a while to trust that it would hold me. Some of my stage-plates are stubborn about locking in, but I’ve pretty much got them figured out now…like I said, I can put it up and take it down in under a half hour. Overall, the pole itself does not disappoint me in the least but, like I said, I have the old model without the X-joint so I don’t know if it’s better or worse now.

I am curious about the PS Star-Standalone, though. I know of a few local girls who own it but I haven’t gotten the chance to compare yet. I am loyal to my X-Stage, but I’m very interested to try out the Star and see if maybe I’d like to purchase one of those too. Seems there would be an advantage in the fact that the platform is so much lower; it would give me more pole to work with (since my ceilings are low and vaulted) and I probably wouldn’t have to be so cautious with floor-work or landing inverts. Still, I’d like to try before I buy since I didn’t have that opportunity w/ my X-Stage.

Good luck w/ choosing your new pole, I hope my review helped you at least a little. lol =D

The big reason we all have so much trouble accepting our bodies the way they are is you turn on the TV and you are hearing left and right about what is wrong with your body and creams, pills etc that will "fix" it. It is hard to be self accepting with stuff like that everywhere you look. well gee they sure know how to make a person aware of their flaws and instead of saying "hey its okay lots of people have flaws" its do this and that to fix yourselves. Hi minicoopergirl. =)

I’m also married, but I have no kids. My husband has been kinda on the fence w/ my poling since I first took an interest in it, but he’s never been like "this pole has become an evil-presence in our house and I don’t like it!" or anything like that. He seems to have a level of discomfort which I can kinda understand, but at the same time I don’t get it. Then I realize that he probably feels the same way:

"She’s having fun which I can kinda understand, but at the same time I don’t get it."

I don’t know, that’s just my interpretation of it.

I think it also helps to remember that pole-dancing is a taboo visual art-form that is highly sensual in essence. Married men are bound to raise an eyebrow at their wife when she takes an interest in learning how to perform aerial acrobatic moves on a phallic object…while scantly dressed, I might add. LOL That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t, but when I look at poling in this light I can kinda see it from a man’s perspective. I’d probably feel the same way if my husband became a rockstar. I mean, wouldn’t you be just a little concerned knowing there are millions of sleazy women who want nothing more and would do anything to steal your sexy man away? Not exactly the same thing, but I would bet that there is a similarity of perception in the opposite sex when it comes to poling.

    It’s a theory. lol https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Cannot resist posting a lengthy response to this topic so, please, bear with me.

I have cellulite; lots of it on my butt and thighs. It seems as though I got it the day I turned thirteen because that’s the first picture where I ever noticed it. I’ve always had a rather lean figure but cannot seem to get rid of my cellulite no matter what I do. When I was a teen I became anorexic as a result of my frustration w/ my body-image and I became dangerously underweight. Guess what? I STILL had cellulite.

Cellulite does not occur because you are fat (although excess flab does increase the appearance of it), it happens because it is genetic. You may never notice it’s even there until something hormonal (such as pregnancy or puberty) triggers an increase in the surfacing of it. Basically, if you have cellulite you’ve always had it and you always will…but that doesn’t mean you have to look like you do!

Since I’ve started poling I have noticed a dramatic reduction in the appearance of my spongy dimples. My skin is firmer and my muscles seem to be surfacing with just a little uneven layer of flesh between them. Prior to poling, I was on the South Beach Diet which helped to keep any excess weight off but I didn’t exercise. The combination of pole-dancing w/ my diet has done miracles for the reduction of my cellulite, more than anything else I’ve ever tried in the past. I swear by it, but I know that it may just work for me and not necessarily everyone.

I will say that I was never very active in my life, much less had an exercise routine, until now. I was always in it for the quick fix and I can confirm THAT STUFF DOES NOT WORK. It kinda sucks that I’ve turned into the type of person who would say this corny old line, but:

The key to living with cellulite is having confidence, eating well, and exercising regularly.

I’ve avoided doing just that until the past year and I really wish that I hadn’t because I could of had my body looking this good a decade ago. It’s not perfect, I still have cellulite, but I know I’m in better shape than I’ve ever been and I am feeling FOXY!

To all the ladies out there who have struggled with their body-image too, lemme’ tell ya, you are beautiful and all your need to do now is own it. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I am also tall with most of me being legs (42" for floor to hip and I am just under 5’8") and did not have too many issues with both of these moves (besides pain). However I cannot go from outside leg hang into star easily but I think that is more due to having crappy center splits.

Hmm, then it must be that I’m not strong enough yet or I’m just not biting the bullet hard enough w/ my attempts. You look very lean and athletic, chemgoddess, were you that ripped before you started poling? I haven’t been this active in my entire life to be honest, and thanks to my mostly sedentary lifestyle I think I’m less disciplined with my pole practices than I would like to be. Btw, anyone interested in becoming my drill-Sargent?

I’m wondering if my height has something to do with me struggling so much with the knee hold and star.

Are you really tall or leggy, girl? I have had much difficulty w/ these moves too and I think that’s a big part of my prob. My legs are 40" long from hip to toe and I am 5’10" tall all together. As a result, it looks amazing when I finally get a move perfected but the struggle in-between is very clumsy and frustrating. I think my lengthy limbs kinda cut my reaction time and, well, there’s just so many possible points of contact that it’s hard to find the right spot before I run out of steam. My short pole and low ceilings don’t help the situation much either. The things you never consider before you get into poling, you know? Haha!

CONGRATS!!! I’m happy that you got your teddy! I just got it lookin’ good this month too (after trying here and there for about two full months), and I also found that by climbing it was a lot easier to get into it. Don’t know if it has to do with body-type, height, or flexibility but it’s strange how some moves are easier to nail from the floor or in the air the first time. Anyway, cheers to you! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
