This is all little challenging to share and make public – but I’m going to try!
I have to say that my upper body is ROCKIN’ right now!!
I have been a licensed massage therapist since December 2008 and since then I have done almost 1000 hours of massage and my body has been transformed! My arms, chest, and back still look very feminine and beautiful – but are TOTALLY muscular now. If you would have told me that I would have been in this good of shape a year ago – I would have laughed! But I have seen myself blossom with confidence as my career has blossomed and my body has developed. In fact, I don’t even think that I would have ever thought that I could pole if I hadn’t seen what my body could do in a year’s time! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
So with that said – I love my arms, hands (my skilled money makers and healers), my clavicle, neck, and face (and I still look 5 years younger than I am – yayyyaah!) My breasts are fairly small and i love them that way! My eyes are deep and brown – which though was boring growing up, but now I see them as intriguing. My hair is a luxurious, shiny mane – that makes hair stylists swoon.I’m still working on the belly – since my hips decided to go – Boom BOOM! – within the last 2 years. I’m often hard on my self for not having the sculpted belly like some polers – but I’m becoming more comfortable with it. But my hips look hella sexy when i walk around the pole and do hip rolls!
Used to never like my legs – but they too are becoming powerhouses and more sculpted! And I love my feet and toes – high arches – very feminine – they allow me to dance, dance, dance, like there’s no tomorrow!
I have to say that I was tinier for most of my life (like a size 2! and now I wonder how that ever happened) – but I love myself and my body so much more now that it’s not as "perfect" (even when I see 19 year old girls walk by and I think "I used to have a belly and ass that small!")
And for someone who’s spent so much of my life in my own head – I take such good care of my body now and take pride in it!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Yay me!! -
WOW LIL BIT!! – THAT IS SO AWESOME! Awww, I’m sorry you’re hurting.
2dyzzi is right – any massage therapist or physiotherapist should be able to help you. The sciatic nerve can run over, under, or through the piriformis muscle, with is deeper than your glute muscles. When people have sciatic pain it’s generally due to the fact that their body just happened to be designed with the nerve running through the muscle – when that muscle tightens it impinges the nerve and causes discomfort and pain.
Speaking as a massage therapist myself, even if you can go for just a 30 minute appointment focused only on your hips, glutes, and the surrounding area – you should get some relief!
Sometimes when I work with people with sciatic pain that area can be very tender and sometimes needs a few sessions for the musculature in that area to completely release, but typically I do what we call a "pin and stretch" to that area, and some PNF as 2dyzzi mentioned and clients will get off of the table feeling at least 60% better in one session!
At home you can also try to lay on the floor and place a tennis ball under your glutes and roll around on it – you’ll find the spots that need it! It it’s too tender you can try it laying in bed – just don’t fall asleep on it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif That may help a little in the meantime – but I would definitely recommend seeing a massage therapist if you can!!Hope you feel better soon! Keep us updated!

Thanks for the concern ladies.
I have come to the conclusion that it’s probably not a "hamstring tear" – it has none of the hallmark signs of a tear. I talked to some of my fellow massage therapists the next day, and we gathered that it had more to do with the tendon that the actual muscle itself. That next day I also randomly had 7 massages to do at work(!!!), some of those where Ashiatu sessions (where I use my legs and feet to work the body) and my leg did great!! I was a little sore right at the tendon that day – but no real pain.
The following day I had scheduled a session with our chiropractor – come to find out my sacrum was really rotated, which I think contributed to the problem! I also had a 90 minute massage directly after my adjustment and we found that my other leg had some compensating issues also.So my conclusion is that with my sacrum being "off" and maybe the fact that I took the stretching a little too fast that day – the muscle probably was fairly tightened, I just happened to move the right way, the tendon was pulled tight and had it to find a way to slide across the bone to get the muscle to lengthen. It sure did scare me though! And it feels almost 100% better already! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
Thanks for the concern and advice ladies! Hope you all are having a great holiday season!!!

Yes – StudioVenna’s advice is great!
Massaging may very well help. All of the small intricate muscles of the "hairless" part of your forearm attach to the bone there (the medial epicondyle) where you are describing the pain.
Those muscles do a great deal of work throughout our day because we are constantly using our hands, and that’s not even counting the dancing portion of the day! If you are able to soften those muscles some by massaging them it should reduce the strain on the tendons.
When muscles are tightened the blood flow is still of course there, but tends to be a little more reduced – and the Ice portion of R.I.C.E. will contract blood vessels helping flush out the blood and fluids that are there (more quickly) and allowing "fresh" blood to flow into that area, bringing fresh nutrients to the tissue and helping that area heal. And yes if it doesn’t seem to improve, definitely get a doctor’s opinion, as it could be an injury to the actual tendon or ligament, which take longer to heal and require more attention .
Hope you feel better soon!
Sincerely,
Your resident massage therapist https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif -

Hi PinkPrincess,
I work as a massage therapist and have recommended a few stretches to clients.
One of those being to sit on the floor with the soles of your feet together and your knees pointed outward (sit "indian style" without crossing your legs) and then use your hands to gently push your knees down toward the floor.
The second thing you could do is – laying on the floor – you will need to get a yoga strap or sturdy piece of rope. Grab one end of the rope/strap with each hand (forming a U with the strap) and place your foot in the "U". You can then, while laying on your back, stretch your leg laterally, out to the side of your body slowly – you can use your arm strength in coordination with your leg to find a comfortable stretch. You can also stretch your hamstrings well this way if you simply pull your leg back directly over your body and up a little. AND you can also pull your leg across the body to the other side and that is a great hip stretch!
Play with it a little you’ll find what feels good! Hope that helps!
