Are you doing any spins that require a split grip (bottom palm facing up…) such as a carousel, craddle..??? If so…stop…you may not have the strength to do them yet! If you try split grips too soon you could seriously hurt yourself…I know from experience! I had to take 3 mths off because of it…

As this is a recently beaten nemisis of mine..here is what I have found…actually learned with a little help from a wonderful dancer…hand placement is super important. my top hand has to be about 1.5 ft above my leg. the bottom hand has to be about 6 in below my bottom leg and my body has to be parallel with the floor (not at an angle) when i go to flip my hips i literaly have to lift my top leg completely off of the pole and bring towards my nose…at the same time my bottom leg I kind of angle it down a little bit to allow the pole to position it’s self on my inner thigh vs my upper top thigh (this has been the biggest thing…damn meaty thighs!). Once I am flipped, instead of trying to push my hips down, i have to focus on pulling my feet up..which inturns causes your hips to drop…once my feet are up i can then let go with the bottom hand…I don’t know if this will help you..but it helped me! good luck! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I agree with Sissy and Veena..you need to work on a controlled basic invert before progressing to the gemini and scorpio. You’ll get it girl…keep at it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Welcome to the site! I have heard good things about hardcore poles..but the majority on here like X-pole. Platinum stages are also excellent poles! Have you checked out Veena’s lessons?? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Veena’s suggestion would be step one…but these moves where you hook your leg/knee are very demanding of your hamstring…the strength will eventually come. practice practice practice…it may also be an issue of body placement. I think you should post a vid and we could better help you!:) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I know exactly how you feel..but remember dancing (hip rolls, sways etc) are all "tricks" too! you have to practice them just like you do spins and inverts! With practice comes grace and you will find that before you know it you will be more comfortable with you! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Welcome to the site minnie and welcome to the wonderful world of pole! There are so many things to learn that in the beginning it may seem too much! The biggest key is to take it slow and listen to your body. As far as moves…get to know your pole with transitions. Once you get comfortable then you can move on to basic spins like fireman, front hook, back hook…no need to rush! My knees used to creek too…man I’m only 28..that makes me sound old!:) I figure skated for many years and the abuse on my knees from landing and lots of falling made them noisy. As I’ve built up the strength around them, the "noise" has gone away almost completely! I also found that serious stretching (NO COLD STRETCHING…always warm up first!) helps a ton with joint popping! My hip used to pop out of place all the time, it didn’t hurt but it was annoying…since I have re-uped my mission of getting my straddle back, it no longer does it!

oh BTW, If you arent’ taking classes at a stuio (or even if you are) Veena’s lessons have a ton of strength building and beginner moves. She has them posted from beginner to intermediate to advanced so you can always see what to work on next.

The girls (and guys:)) on here are a library full of pole dancing knowledge. Please don’t hesitate to ask!
