are you doing any spins that require a split grip? If so..you may want to lay off. you may not have built up enough strength or flexibility in your wrists/forearms to withstand the demands of this grips.

I’m doing it with the split grip as I have yet to be taught either elbow or forearm grip.
I would think that you should be taught either elbow grip or forearm grip WAY before split grip as this is much more advanced than the other two!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif I think elbow grip and forearm grip help prepare you for split grips!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
With the elbow grip it allows the body to extend further away from the pole. Caterpillar up into squating position, put the pole in the crook of your elbow (keep forearm parallel to floor). Allow your hips to slowly extend away from the pole..when you feel comfortable with this then you can take your feet off. The key to the elbow grip is the idea of push-pull. You will "pull" the pole with your arm that grips at the elbow and you will "push" with your arm that is extended down the pole. the "pull" part to me is the most important. You will not stay up if you rely on your skin to hold you there…you must pull with that arm!
As far as forearm grip…I do everything pretty much the same with the exception of how my arm is gripping the pole. in this case to me there is some skin grip (along the whole forearm) that is helping but there is still the element of pulling. Your body will not be able to extend away from the pole as much as with elbow grip. I think of this one as keeping my chest close to the pole and my hips much further away. Your body will also be off to the side opposite the arm you are gripping with…this allows you to not shoot straight down the pole!..which i’ve done! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I also suggest working on lifting into an inverted V (chopper)…ie. no kicking or jumping. Once you master that on the floor, aerial inverts to me are much easier. You would just go into an inverted V up on the pole and then grasp your legs around the pole to finish the invert. I know this is easier said than done…when I first started doing aerial inverts I had to swing my legs behind me to help get the momentum to lift up.
