I just started the laser process yesterday so I will be really curious to see how it all turns out.  There was a groupon a few weeks ago for three sessions for $99 for one of the following areas: lip, chin, underarms, bikini lines.  It is with a dermatologist so that was positive.  Unfortunately, it is for only the bikini line and I will need him to go in a little further for me to be happy with the results.  But I figure this was a good place to start!

I have been told that you don't normally lose hair the day that the lasering takes place, but I did.  Not a ton, but definitely some.  Is that an indicator of something?  Any ideas?

I wish there were some magical words of wisdom, but what everyone has said is absolutely correct.  You need to just practice pointing your feet.  I would also practice doing releves and plies to condition your calves because if you start pointing from your calves only, you will get cramps there too.  As a ballerina, I rarely get cramps from pointing too much, but when I do (ie. too much pointe work), I use a foot roller.  I love mine and I highly recommend picking one up.  I got mine at Wegman's (a grocery store) years ago for like $5.  But here is one from Amazon:

    Good luck!

One of my friends told me to "think about giving myself a proctology exam" when I was struggling with it.  So I know I think about violating myself and BAM wrist sit is there!

Do you mind me asking how expensive the laser treatments are? It is something I have been thinking about but cost is prohibitive.

In the meantime, I get bikini waxes very regularly!

As an occupational therapist, I firmly believe in the power and effectiveness of massage. I use it in my treatments with clients, both young and old.

That being said, I also go to an excellent massage therapist. I wish I could go more often than once a month (which is a recent development for me). Basically, I have very large "knots" in my gluteal region that is preventing full range of movement. My upper back is basically inflexible due to all of my muscle tightness – my scapula literally sticks to my rib cage and doesn’t move. Considering I do ballet multiple times a week, you would imagine I would be fully flexible. The massage therapy has helped me gain flexibility and decrease pain throughout my body. Some insurance even covers it. It is definitely something I would look into!

One other thought I had is are you affected my seasonal changes? I find that when the weather starts getting colder, I start eating more. It really is our natural instinct to hibernate. Just another thought…

Not gonna lie…but I am completely hopeless at this! So hopeless I gave up a few years ago and I started getting them done. I used to wax them and have recently switched to threading since it is less painful and I don’t break out afterwards. I let mine go a little longer then is recommended because I pluck with my tweezers the few strays that pop up between. When it gets more out of control, I go get them threaded again. The place where I go is $12 so not too bad.

Thank-you everyone for all the information!!

I think right now based on what everyone says, it is not the right time for me to purchase the program. I have enough trouble finding 20 minutes to use my pole! I am working on making some changes in my life so I work less and I think it is something worth thinking about at that time.

One other question for you. I thought you guys sold a pole dancer necklace, but now I can’t find them. If I am not mistaken, they were $20 at the pole convention. I would love to buy one now if you still have them.

Thanks for posting the link and answering the questions. I have been wanting to place an order for awhile, but the cost of shipping just seems high to me. Are you going to be running any specials or change to more flexible shipping options?

    Thanks!

How long are the workouts? I need to really believe that I will use it before I spend the money. It is sooo expensive and I just bought my pole!

I am also really interested! I need something that I can do at home in the morning before work, but I can’t have anything that will interfere with the flexibility I need for ballet. Please share!

What do you mean by overtightened? Which part? I think I may have to my pole, but not really sure. Help https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I drink the Carnation Instant Breakfast all the time. I like the French Vanilla, but I have recently started drinking the milk chocolate one that has no sugar added. It is pretty good – tastes like chocolate milk https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif and it has less calories than the french vanilla. Another way to use it is to blend it with milk and fruit in the blender for a yummy smoothie. The nutritionist I saw in college introduced me to CIB and I have used it on and off ever since.

Your geeky side makes me smile! It reminds me of when I go pointe shoe shopping and I use technical terms to describe how the pointe shoe is fitting certain parts of my foot – they just kinda all look at me like I am crazy! Its nice to see you love what you do https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Interesting. I have been dancing for 22 years and have never done oversplits. I actually just recently lost my splits due to a pretty severe muscle pull and all of a sudden went to 6-8 inches off the ground. For a ballet dancer, this is hell!! I got a really great massage from an excellent therapist last week and all of a sudden my splits are now only about 1.5-2 inches off the ground on both sides. He did a lot of release work on my glutes which were caught up in lots of little knots. It is an enjoyable idea to consider https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

I am definitely going to start trying oversplits and I may order that book. Thanks!

Call X-pole. They will help. My guess is they will tell you to use the broom trick as that is what they told me. They even emailed me a diagram on what I was supposed to do. Good luck!

You are fine! Don’t worry. I had the same issues on some of my parts. Basically, when their manufacturer put it all together they overtightened some of the x-joints. I actually couldn’t get mine apart and they had to send me new ones. But the "pop" sound is okay. I also heard some of the cracking in the ceiling but when I had to take my pole down this week, I did not notice anything wrong in the ceiling. I was actually more concerned that I hadn’t gotten it completely on the stud since I marked the stud and found it, but then you cover it up by the big dome!! Seemed kinda crazy to me. But I had a friend check it and he said it was fine. When I ran into issues, I called X-pole and they were very helpful.

I would definitely try pilates. I find that it helps me with flexibility and strengthening. I originally started taking it to support ballet and find it helps with poling as well.

I have to say that overall I am incredibly impressed with the amount of medical knowledge that has been shared. As an occupational therapist, I am used to working with people who understand this language, but outside of my work environment I do not see the same. What an incredible group of people!

The other thing you may want to think about is if your pelvis is anteriorly or posteriorly tilted.

I also agree with Keex that your tensor fascia latae sounds like it is uber tight!

Keex – What do you do for a living? PT, OT, what?
