P90X ?
Posted by eviltwinn1 on November 3, 2010 at 7:05 pmHey guys,
I started P90X a few days ago to build enough strength and flexibility to do more advanced pole moves. (That and my stupid birth control put 15 pounds on me and I’m desperate to get it off.)
Has anyone here gone through P90X? If so, how did it affect your poling? Did your flexibility and strength increase? How did your appearance change?
I would love to hear about your experiences! It is super intense and I hate doing it, so your success stories would really encourage me to keep going. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gifDianne replied 14 years ago 6 Members · 9 Replies -

I am also really interested! I need something that I can do at home in the morning before work, but I can’t have anything that will interfere with the flexibility I need for ballet. Please share!

I did not make it the entire 90 days b/c my husband quit on me and I didn’t have the will power to force myself suffer when I knew he wasn’t either! LOL! As far as flexibility, mine didn’t get any better, but I also wasn’t trying to improve it… I did the classic version of P90x and after a good month+ I started skipping Yoga and made it a pole day instead https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif You have to find sometime to pole!!!! Hehe! As far as my strength, OMG, it COMPLETELY changed my poling!!! I got sooo much stronger from P90x (for the time frame that I did it) and honestly my poling really took off!! I lost about 14lbs (I’m not even 5’1) in less than 2 months (probably 6 weeks), lost 1 inch in my chest, 1 inch on my waist, 3/4 in my hips, almost an inch in my left arm and 1/2 in on my right arm (my poor left arm doesn’t get the awesome workout that my right side gets… I really should practice poling on both sides), I think a half inch on my right thigh and 0 on my left thigh… but I think we had measured our thighs incorrectly the first time. P90x works, especially if you follow the diet plan also!!! Believe it or not, I actually enjoyed P90x, once I got past the pain and misery!! Haha! It helped with my confidence and the weight came off pretty fast, and I was shrinking quickly… But for me it’s hard for me to kill myself when I don’t have someone killing themselves with me!!! It’s a great program, you just have to have the discipline to follow it. "I hated it, but I loved it" https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I hated it while I was struggling, but LOVED it once I finished the workout! I felt so accomplished after the workouts and it really was a confidence boost! Not to mention how EVERYONE noticed my weight loss and would always comment on it… I should do it again, but I just can’t find the motivation!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_compress.gif Do it, you wont regret it!!!

How long are the workouts? I need to really believe that I will use it before I spend the money. It is sooo expensive and I just bought my pole!

I just made a collage and will upload it on here to show my results comparing the first picture that I freaked about when I seen b/c how big I was up til recently.
The workouts are from 1 hr (all but Yoga) to 1 1/2 hrs (Yoga) + AbRipperX which you do about 3 nights a week and I believe that is about 10-15 mins after the workout. It’s really not that bad considering the time I spend in the gym.. it’s just I’d rather spend 4 days in the gym for longer periods of time than 6 days a week for shorter times… I’m not suggesting this or anything, but I’ve heard of some people downloading them and burning them. -
Thank you for the reply, it’s very encouraging! I think I’m going to blog about the experience and post a pic once a week or so to help keep me on track (I can’t get the pic to show up in my first blog though. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_question.gif )
Prncsopowr, I’ve heard you can find it on ebay for pretty cheap, so you should check there. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
One of the DVD’s is all stretching, which feels fantastic, and one of them is yoga, which I find terribly dull but it is supposed to help a lot with flexibility.Hope it works! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I don’t have much experience with P90X (I think I tried the Kenpo X DVD one time and it kicked my butt), however I did start the other "hardcore" Beachbody program (Insanity) and actually stuck with it religiously for 30 days. By the end of the month my fitness level had totally been transformed. Within a DAYS of doing the program I remember feeling my abs and thinking "OMG I had no idea my abs could be this firm!" I think it would help with pole as it increases stamina, core strength, and upper body strength (loots of pushups) and since its more cardio based, its more focused on getting a lean body vs. a ripped body like P90X is.
Re: skipping Yoga X in P90X, you might not want to! Tony Horton has been quoted as saying that is the workout that makes him capable of doing all other workouts https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I started P90X shortly after I started taking dance classes and the results were amazing. I was 160 and now I weigh 145. There are multiple options you can use for P90X. You can do the Lean version, which is 12-15 reps with not as much weight per exercise ,the Regular version which is 8-10 reps with more weight, and then there is the doubles which is cardio in the morning and then Lean or Regular in the evening. I went on vacation back home and did it for a few days, then got sick, so I haven’t done it in two weeks, but unlike some exercise/diet plans I did not gain the weight back!
It is about an hour a day (unless you do doubles), with a weight day, then a non-weight workout like Plyometrics, core symetries and yoga. By the way yoga is 1 hour & 45 mins long!! It is 6 days a week and does take some dedication. You best bet would be to do any pole work on the weight days (like P90x in the morn, pole at night) so your muscles are not worn out. Ab ripper will kick your butt, it is like doing 360 situps, but worth it!!!
Another major part, that you must follow is the nutrional plan. I have a friend who did this with me but did not stick to the plan and did not have the results I had. The plan is the hardest part since you have to plan out for the day what you will eat. However, I was eating alot more than I use to, just differently.
Overall, I would say it is worth it if you plan on being dedicated. Since doing this I have gotten so many compliments (my sis asked where the rest of me was!) and I noticed that during pole class I have alot more strength than my other classmates!!

Thank-you everyone for all the information!!
I think right now based on what everyone says, it is not the right time for me to purchase the program. I have enough trouble finding 20 minutes to use my pole! I am working on making some changes in my life so I work less and I think it is something worth thinking about at that time.

I’m not familiar with the weight loss product P90X. If I were to ask "What is the best way to lose weight quickly?" I’d still answer that it really comes down to self-discipline, eating the right kind and amount of food plus regular exercise. With these healthy habits, weight loss isn’t expected to happen in the snap of a finger, but as we all know, patience is a virtue.
