Let me get it all out tonight and see that I have it all. I believe so. I need to check if I still have the nonstick pad for hardwood floors you put under the pole. If not, it's like 7 bucks on the lilmynx.com site.

I'm right near DC. For someone in NC I'd have to ship and I don't know how much that'd cost to ship such a big heavy thing

February 17, 2013 at 4:17 pm in reply to: Hiatal Hernia

I've had a hiatal hernia since 2005 before I started pole. It was found during endoscopy but I had no symptoms of it, I was there for something else. A large number of the population have a sliding hiatal hernia and are not aware of it. It should not stop you from poling or any other exercise. They say not to lift things with hernias like in the groin… those are typically hernias that were caused by lifting. They aren't really talking about hiatal hernias there. But… I have been having a lot of GI problems the past couple years. I have had 6 endsocopies prior to these problems for other reasons but I don't want to get another one because I'm sick of it. I'm pretty sure my hernia is worse now and I notice sometimes after pole it does feel worse. Upside down things are the worst but I can't really tell because I feel bad a lot when I'm not even doing pole. I have been on prevacid for like 6 years. I will tell you though do not hold your breath in while lifting. Always exhale then lift.

Elektra I think your drop is basically a shoulder mount into a regular invert catching with thighs… hers is catching with knees and shoulder only, staying with her body away from the pole. Different drops https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

yeah I'm in early stages. But there are some weeks where I can't barely move let alone pole !! I just like to bring it up since it is very hard to diagnose and people don't always think of it.

Get MRI to see if it's not inflammation in your sacroiliac joints. I have ankylosing spondylitis and my pain started in the SI joints. It's not likely you have it but would be good to check with rheumatologist. good luck

Hi- I am sorry to hear that. I sort of know how you feel. I have severe food allergies and asthma too and also was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis and eosinophilic esophagitis. My dad's side of the family has type 1 diabetes and I'm scared to death of getting it. It's autoimmune and I already have immune issues like the spondylitis. My dad got it late- he was around 38 or so I think. I hope you have a support system around you that can take care of you. Keep those glucose tablets around, at all times. My dad still has issues at random times even though he tries to control it, sometimes he just can't for whatever reason. He's not an alcoholic but when he does drink he tends to overdo it and that throws everything out of whack even more. I wish you the best of luck. Pleast stay strong. I know it's cliche but you have to think that quote "out of the most suffering comes the strongest of souls". You are dealing with more than most people will ever deal with. So if that means canceling a plan with them or being a bitch at times, you have EVERY right to do that.

Hi- happened across this thread. Just have to report I did myself get 2 dolls made. I sent the lady, Roberta, pictures of my tricks and she made dolls of me based off them. She shipped them and they arrived perfectly. We did the transaction through ebay. I highly recommend!

I have attended the past 2 years of USPDF. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE watching the show which is why I travel so far to get there. That is why I wish so much it was a showcase!! Everything is great until people hear the results and then leave with a sour taste in their mouths. I don’t know Wendy but she seems to be a well spoken lady whenever she does interviews. She seems to be capable of addressing any concerns the public has… but we haven’t seen much response to any concern over the years. Last year I think east coast maybe, or maybe nationals, I can’t remember, but there was drama over the number of girls entered. There was supposed to be 12 and they had an online vote but still only took 11… or something I can’t really recall… anyway no one ever got a formal statement from USPDF as to why that all happened. There seems to always be drama surrounding uspdf every single time over SOMETHING. I’ve begun to expect some drama with every competition. It doesn’t have to be that way. I know everything is in its infancy, but these things seem like things that could be addressed, could be explained, and they’re just not. If uspdf would explain things/scores or make statements perhaps we would not have to have these discussions on studioveena with everyone speculating about every little thing. As for the submission deadlines, I have no idea about that. Wasn’t really following that aspect but I heard who got in and I am VERY VERY pleased that Tracee was accepted. She is phenomenal !! I just wish all these competitions could be showcases where each performer gets a flat fee. Like $2,000 per girl or something I don’t know…It’d be fun for all and profitable for the girls!! Won’t happen, but just a rainbows & butterflies kinda idea. And I do know there is value in having competitions. People can have titles, medals, notoriety, it’s all good. Competition occurs in every sport. . Last year I felt there was a major judging error in the pro comp and thought maybe I was missing something or didn’t know what the criteria was… so I asked a bunch of people after the pro competition what they thought. Literally everyone I talked to was very confused about the judging. I didn’t find a single person there or online later who thought it was fair. It made us feel like we, the audience, were not respected as a community. Like the judges didn’t care about the audience opinion and were going to do what they wanted. So several girls I talked to agreed they wouldn’t pay to attend the competition next year. I actually emailed one of the judges myself, took it to the source. We emailed a couple times back and forth and it basically left on a note of “we agree to disagree”. On another note I am very pleased to see the videos finally coming out from the competitions. Michelle, Nadia, Mina, etc… all stunning… and I must admit, was even more stunning being there in person.

Please be careful with the SI joint area. If it continues to become bothersome and doesn't seem  like a sudden injury you could have what I was diagnosed with 2 years ago, ankylosing spondylitis. Causes inflammation throughout the body most notably the SI joints and spine and ribcage. I do pole still when I can and am lucky so far, but I am very careful when I pole. It may not appear that way but I am very careful and deliberate. Also be careful with physical therapists… the first time I saw one she immediately had me lie down and she just YANKED on my leg to try to get the "joint moving" and I yelled in pain. It was the dumbest thing ever. Also stationary bike will aggravate SI pain. I steer clear of PT's for this specific problem.  Do backward leg raises and spend time in a pool if you can for water exercise. Again don't know your situation  but don't just get an xray and think everything's ok.  You may need MRI or cortisone injection, OR I HOPE you just stretched it too much and it will heal.

April 4, 2012 at 2:02 pm in reply to: Healing belly button piercing

I haven't read the rest of teh comments, but let me tell you what happend to me with my belly button ring. Got it at age 17. The guy said to use tea tree oil instead of neosporin because the neosporin would cause "too much healing" and hole would try to close… whatever… But… after like a year it still kept getting infected and felt like it was trying to close up all the time. It would always be crusty. The skin kept getting thinner and thinner where it was pierced.. and then one ay I was at the pool with a guy I liked. He jumped in on me and ripped out the belly ring. It hurt, but not as much as I thought. The skinwas so thin by then. So after like another 8 months or something I decided to get it re-pierced. It was like all scar tissue by then. It stayed in for a few weeks and then literally just came out. The skin just grew out. Point being… anything foreign in your body you run the risk of your body rejecting it. This can happen to piercings or breast implants ( I don't have but I've heard that is a risk). So watch out with these belly rings.. it sucks mine would just not stay in … it looked really cute.

Well cross ankle release is particularly painful because you only have one point of contact. At least in superman your arm is taking some of the weight. I NEVER do cross ankle releases. I can do handstands like a pro but I refuse doing CAR or CKR….. I've tried a couple times but felt like I was moments from falling each time. There are just some tricks that are not for me. Felix, that's her thing, but I just won't do them. Like she said above, there are millions of tricks so don't feel like you HAVE to learn something. JUST SKIP IT!!

That article is weird it says lands on her head, but liver injury? I have often wondered about the hip hold stuff we do… we really are pressing our liver area on the pole and if you do a drop and land in say a jade, you really are holding all your weight right where you liver is. It can't be good. I try to stay away from these hip hold moves they just scare me

I struggle with this too. I do not know how to freestyle. I was a cheerleader and gymnast so I always had set routines which I could NAIL !!! BUT…. I don't have a construct of how to freestyle anything. I asked Tracee from B&P about this recently and she does have a dance background but her advice was to "drill movement"… like make yourself move, practice moving between tricks in general even if you feel stupid just keep moving, do SOMETHING… and eventually you will feel more comfortable "flowing"….. and this is my goal this year. I'm sure I'mna look REAL DUMB most of the time but hopefully some flowy magic will happen and I'll be a better freestyler.
