Haha I love the last idea https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif . Maybe if I could actually figure out a way to make by wiping hands on butt/wiping down pole look sexy, I’d actually post a video.
I’m not sure if this has been done yet.. but maybe a decades challenge?
I think everyone has a favorite decade for music and style, and I would love to see what people could come up with from their decades.

Thank you everyone for your help. Ya a day after I posted this I ended up going to the ER room because the pain was so bad, but they weren’t very helpful. I really need to get in to see a GI Doc, but I live in LA, and all the good ones are booked out through October.
I’m still in a lot of pain, and can hardly eat anything at all. I haven’t been able to work out or pole since all this started (I’m dying, because I went from working out 2x a day to nothing!), but I’m happy because I can walk again and the pain has become a bit more manageable.
I never told the doctors about my poling, because my dad was there with me in the ER room (He’s very conservative, military, and I don’t think the idea of his "little girl" poling would fly, at all). But since I have been off the pole for about 17 days now, and am still in pain, I’m pretty sure that the pole-ing has nothing to do with it.
But in the meantime, until I can get back on the pole, I’m definitely going to live vicariously through all of you. Keep up the good work and keep posting videos =).

Did you try craigslist? Select the free section and then keyword search "mirror." I just did this and came up with about several offers of people giving away huge mirrors for free! If only I had the room in my apartment and the truck to drive them away with…

So I think the price depends on the exchange rate between the Australian and US dollar. I, too, was going to wait until the price got back down into the 60 dollar range, but then I did some google searches on forecasts for the Australian dollar, and it looks like for the next few months (rest of 2009) it really is only going to stay the same or go up (in value when compared with the US dollar). But don’t quote me on this info! I’m also going off of internet forecasts (although I did find several that had comparable information), so who knows how accurate these really are.
Anyways, before finding out this information, I installed a currency conversion app on my iphone, and just checked the exchange rate on an hourly basis. But after several days of seeing very little fluctuation, I got frustrated, and just ordered the DVD set when the exchange rate hit about .82 Australian dollars to every 1 US dollar. I think the total for me with shipping and insurance and everything came out to about $108 (US).
But does anyone know how long it usually takes to get the DVDs? After buying these, I definitely can’t afford any other lessons, so my pole progress has pretty much come to a halt, and I’m getting kinda excited/giddy/impatient. I live in California, but any general idea on how long they took for you to get would be awesome!

I definitely agree with Veena about weight training. I just started poling, and I feel like the weight training I have been doing for the last 8+ months has been extremely helpful (the upper body and general strength helps a lot!).
Also, I’m not sure why you don’t have a pole, or can’t take classes… but can you maybe take some gymnastics or dance classes in the meantime? Gymnastics will certainly target both your strength and your flexibility, and dance will help a lot with flexibility and rhythm. Something like yoga might help with strength and flexibility as well.
Good luck!

This is a post written about the event on Jezebel… a 3rd wave feminist website. If anyone is interested, the post itself along with the comments offer some interesting thoughts about Miley’s "pole dance." (I’m not trying to promote or anything here, I’m not even registered as a user on Jezebel, I just really like a lot of the stories and female empowerment that the site, and I thought some of the ladies (and men) on here might like it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif )

Ya I just got my new pole, and I’ve been practicing on it for 2 days, and I have open sores all over my fingers (particularly my pinkies). I have super-sweaty hands so I wipe down the pole and my hands all the time with alcohol, so maybe this is what is causing it. I feel like I’m getting my calloused gymnastics hands back!

Thank you so much everyone! You guys have all been incredibly helpful =) This was my first time posting on this website and the reception has been amazing.
So on Sunday I went and took a class at one of the studios that was recommended in this post. And although I found it fun, it really didn’t seem challenging enough for me. All we did was floorwork and spins, and I really wanted to work on climbing and inverts and whatnot. Also, I was hoping to get a kick a** workout (like I get when I mess around on my friend’s pole), and I definitely didn’t get that at all. I did meet some really amazing girls though!
Veena had suggested Polecat Power, and after looking around on their website, I think those might be some classes that I really enjoy. Unfortunately, I need to wait for one of their sessions to role over so I can start with a new one.
I think for now though I might just buy a pole. I was worried that I may not be able to self-motivate and that I may stop using it after a month, but I’m really hoping this doesn’t happen. I’m extremely motivated when it comes to fitness (working on my NSCA personal training cert. right now), so I think that if I can get a good workout from the pole I will fall in love with it.
So I think I am going to get my pole, and teach myself the basic moves and what I can learn from the Art of Pole DVDs, and then in that time, save up some money to take some good classes for when I start doing more complicated tricks and really need the advice on form.
And now I just have to decide between a 45mm and a 50mm pole. If I can figure out how to somehow get my hands to stop sweating I will get the 50, but I think I may have to get the 45 if I have any hope of ever being able to dance w/out grip aids.
