My poles get jammed on occasion so to get them apart:

Put the pole back up and loosen each section individually. Start with the top section, put a rod in the hole of the top extension and a rod in the hole of the extension directly below it. Anchor the lower rod with your leg to the right of it and push back against it, push forwards (anti clockwise) on the top rod and hopefully that should get them apart. Do the same for the others too and it should be ok to take down.

When you put the pole back up make sure it is tight but not too tight you are unable to create space when undoing each section.

I hope that helps, that is the ONLY way I have been able to take my poles apart.

I don't know if this would be what you are looking for but it is a website that I think Veena posted for Mums and it includes stories from women about how their bodies have changed after pregnancy. It includes downright misery to self acceptance.

I was wondering what spins you had started with because it may be that there are other spins or things you could try to get your confidence up a bit? Are you comfortable doing a sexy walk around the pole? Maybe you could start that and some 'wiggly' stuff, pirouettes and stuff so you have confidence around the pole first.

Don't get disheartened, your strength will creep up on you and you will suddenly realise you are a pole goddess and had nothing to worry about at all!

A Cross Knee Release (CKR) is one of the next steps from sitting on the pole. So as you can sit, try the sitting on both sizes, for my students that is the test. If they can sit on a 45 (and can spin, etc on a 45 too) then that may be the pole for them.

I think it is a good idea to ask the other studio, even if you have to pay a drop in fee, it will be worth it to be completely happy with your pole.

I love both although my heart will always always be with my 45. I make sure I can do everything on both poles but I do find the 45 easier for my cartwheels, elbow grips, etc because I have small hands. Have you used a 45 before? Maybe you can find somewhere or someone who has a 45 so you can have a quick play, try everything you can do, spins, CKR, inverts and see which you prefer. A lot of my students prefer the 50mm, particularly for the CKR but everyone is different.

I have thought about getting some kiddy foam mats? Toys R Us sell mats that are 6 or so inches square which is the perfect size for the bottom of my pole. I would just take one out to fit around the bottom of the pole and voila!

Lainey – I could never find rubbing alcohol when I was living in the UK. I think there was some stupid reason why it wasn't sold but I can't remember – it was three years ago.

On occasion I 'grip up' poles. Not sure if I am super lucky and have ridiculously grippy hands but so far so good. I always paper kitchen towel. I never use an actual towel because I find that makes it slippy. I presumed it may be either a detergent residue or something in the fabric that makes the pole slippy. Might be worth a try.

Sooooo, I went to buy it but because we are in Canada and using a British account it won't let me buy it. You wouldn't think buying a song would be so damn difficult.

I've decided I really want Painted on my heart by The Cult from Gone in 60 Seconds but it isn't on iTunes https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

Minicoopergrl – I downloaded the Dry Martini Mix and I presume the original. I like them both and couldn't decided which one I liked more.

I downloaded Rev 22:20 and I LOVE it, so much so that I downloaded two versions.

Totally not happening on my iTunes. I can find 'more in music' at the bottom right of the page but nothing at all for imix. I googled it and I think there is an issue with using Canadian iTunes. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

Now, Chemgoddess1 – How do I find a playlist on iTunes? Is it one of the celebrity playlists?

Yes, that is it. How the top arm is with the forearm grip is how my outside/lower arm is when I do the carousel. I also do the boomerang that way.  I burn easily on my wrists but have never burnt my forearm on this one. I just ran down to try it on my pole to make sure. I find that because it is my lower arm in the forearm grip, my arm isn't actually gripping the pole, your hand should be doing all the gripping but the forearm makes the move feel more stable. Does that make sense?

I find that when I teach this one, I always show both, explain why I have both and letting them work out which one they prefer and they really like this one. Particularly students with slippy grip or who are unsure of the spin, it makes them feel more secure.

I say cradle but I mean the split grip positioning.

I had wrist issues for a while so a cradle grip was a no go so I used an upwards forearm grip instead. It requires a lot more core control but works really well. So, inside arm high and your outside arm in a forearm grip.

I have also been poling for four years and know the plateau feeling. Buuut, you can get past it. I find it is helpful to have a goal to work towards. Mine at the moment is a bit silly – I want to do a strip tease/pole/lap dance for my Fiance. I have never, ever done it. Soooooo, I am doing all sorts of workshops and focussing on being relaxed when I freestyle. Anyway, I digress…

In your class, your students will feed from you, If you are anxious they will be too. Don't be afraid to tell them you are a bit nervous and have a joke about it. Feed from them, ask for feedback and suggestions. I am always doing it from my students, not because I am unsure but because they normally aren't afraid, given an opportunity to tell me what they like and don't like. Sometimes it will work and sometimes it won't but you may as well try.  We have had some really good ideas from student suggestions.

Do you have a class structure you have to follow? If you do, are you comfortable following it? Is it open to interpretation? Not everyone teaches the same way or is good at the same thing. Is there anoher instructor who is a sort of mentor for you? Someone you go to for questions?

I have a student who I am training to take over from me but her confidence isn't great even though it should be. I am lucky that she allows me to push her out of her comfort zone, would your mentor be able to do that? It doesn't have to be in terms of moves. For example, my instructor to be isn't confident in from of crowds so I asked her to demo at some tradeshows. Guess what, people told her she was awesome and I hope it made a little bit of a difference.

I do agree that you need to find time for you to practise. Can you arrive a little earlier for class or stay after. You are at the studio, the poles are up, make the most of it. If students see you practising and trying to get better they will be inspired by that.

Just some thoughts and suggestions, I hope it helps.

I was going for the first album or single you ever bought yourself but it doesn't make any difference. The first albums I was bought were Kylie Minogue and Peter Andre (the Special Edition!!) Either way, I have an extremely unfortunate song choice.

I tell everyone, my whole family knows, all of my friends, my Fiance's friends. I feel if I don't make a big deal about it then it won't seem like a big deal. My Fiance is very open about it too and he is the first to stop someone in their tracks to explain why I do it, what I do and how proud he is.

I have only ever had two issues. The first being my Dad, he has issues with remembering the correct terms and names so has on a number of occasions proudly announced his daughter is a lap dancer! I don't mind, it is another 'Dad' moment. The second was a woman who was being very derogatory  because she was older than me and surrounded by her friends so thought she could get away with it. Oh how wrong was she…!
